Before now, I've never written a negative review on YouTube. This is perhaps the worst Patty Griffin song I've ever heard and I've been a huge fan of her work since the beginning of her career. Poor vocals, poor songwriting, poor arrangement, and poor presentation - I hope the rest of this album is much better than the title song. I understanding artistic exploration and change but this song misses on every level. I have front row tickets to the first show in her upcoming tour. I hope her playlist doesn't include poor work, like this song. Love you Patty, but you can do a lot better than this.

Gerry, if this is "poor vocals, poor songwriting, poor arrangement, and poor presentation," perhaps you should find another musical artist whose work you can appreciate.
To these ears, "Servant of Love" resonates with hauntingly beautiful images and music; Patti's vocals wrap the heart.

Gerry, glad to know you are a fan of hers. perhaps you have not been a servant to love. I have and this song touches my heart so deeply. I have a bestfriend who loves her work but does not really get this song either. For me, to put it succinctly the love is drowning her. My bestfriend has been happily married for decades, he does not know how to feel drowning in love, perhaps you do not either. Just know there are many people who get that exact emotion from the vocals and arrangement even without the more deep songwriting that us Patty Griffin lover's are use too

Patty's subtle vocal and the lovely arrangement on this cut remind me of the last two-thirds of a fine song called "Tango" on Peggy's Lee's 'Mirrors' album. This song and many others on 'Servant Of Love' showcase Patty's first-rate song-writing and performing talents. It's so inspiring when some of an artist's best work appears twenty years in....
