Patty Griffin - Made Of The Sun Lyrics

There’s a place deep in the woods that I remember
Melting snow was falling from the trees
Before we even knew there was December
Silence only broken by the breeze

When the world was only you and your warm arms
I’d look for you, you were the favourite one
Your yesterdays poured into my tomorrows
And the songs you sang were made of the sun
And the songs you sang were made of the sun

You said everywhere you look the world is changing
Everywhere the water’s closing in
Something deeper still is always rearranging
Something’s lost, something new begins

While I dream of you, we’re sitting near the window
Laughing, bathing in the winter sun
If I had to choose one moment for forever
My friend, I tell you, that would be the one

    Beautiful guitar. Beautiful words.

A chance hearing of Patty in Austin 2003. I was so mezmerized by her voice, musicality, and lyrics, I had to hear more. No wonder so many better known musicians have recorded her songs. The wonder is, why she's not better known further afield than her fanbase.
I just heard one of her songs used on a 2012 episode of Saving Hope. I'm going to bring out my earlier cds, and savor the memories of hearing her again - for the first time.

She's never made an average album. Such wonderful and imaginative songwriting. Grateful for all of the Griffin moments in the sun....wish I could work her tour. Could dig several months out again at my age with this music.

I missed Patty the last time she came to Portland, but next Tuesday I'm seeing her at the Crystal Ballroom! Cannot wait... I've been listening to the new album non-stop for days. This song might be my favorite, if only for the bittersweetness of the final line.
