Patti Smith - White Rabbit Lyrics
One pill makes you larger
And one pill makes you small,
And the ones that mother gives you
Don't do anything at all.
When she's ten feet tall.
And if you go chasing rabbits
And you know you're going to fall,
Tell 'em a hookah smoking caterpillar
Has given you the call.
Call Alice
When she was just small.
When the men on the chessboard
Get up and tell you where to go
And your mind is moving low.
Go ask Alice
I think she'll know.
When logic and proportion
Have fallen sloppy dead,
And the White Knight is talking backwards
And the Red Queen's "off with her head!"
Remember what the dormouse said:
"Feed your head. Feed your head. Feed your head"

The way the song is performed reminds a lot of Pattis version of "Gloria", especially the intro ...
Very good cover Pattie is so good ❤️
Wonderful. Could people stop making inaccurate comments here that the Airplane version is the 'original'. It's not
@Verutschkow Grace Slick wrote the song.
Ever Heard about the Great Society ? LBJ and all that ...
@Verutschkow Grace Slick was the singer and writer.

Sharing + Thanks....
I love this song. While Jefferson Airplane's version is awesome, this is also awesome! It's impossible to choose between the two as to which is my favourite.
The older she gets, the better she gets, I swear.
I've loved Patti since the mid seventies when I was just a pre teen. This reaffirms my love.
You intererest me you do
I am really getting grand vibrations running through my Mind, Body and Soul listening to Patti Smith covers. You are a very talented Lady Patti, please continue to create.
JOOSHKA
_(:/)D
IMHO Patti is drowned out in this mix, Please Mr mixing man, we want to hear Patti.

FEED MY HEAD.....
Patti!!!!!!!! 😘
Is that the Maplethorpe tamborine? Fantastic
love the original ...but patti,s version is so much more powerfull ..her voice is amazing!!!!
folle. sufficientemente folle....
PSG yeah!!! drunken rabbit 🐰
always something melancholic in her voice. I prefer Slick version more incisive and crazed. But it's Grace savage human
Let us all work on stopping all corrupts, who destroy our giving Planet-"Paradise". "Democracy Now"!
Patti Smith does the best covers. This is marvelous. I love almost everything about it. (The reworking of the little drum is really cool -- delightfully sloppy and sideways slipping.)
Patti's voice is always as poetical and sublimating
Grace Slick voice> Patti Smith voice
it 's beautiful , Patti !
Grace would approve and love it , i'm sure !!!
genial.laura boualleli.meudon
this is the worst piece of shit I've ever heard.
hilarious and original
Almost sounds like 'Seven Ways of Going'
This music is great.True psychedelic music made recently. l I bet Patti was a huge fan of Grace Slick
Davin Gladwell yes she is. Patti is a big fan of Grace. Grace had been one of her bigger influences in her career.
Awesome psychedelic music. Nice that Patti would pay homage to Grace Slick. I love the music here and wish Grace had used this music to record this rendition of White Rabbit during the 1980s though.
Wow..............speechless
Sorry it's not a Jefferson Airplane cover. The first band to record it was the Great Society with Grace Slick who did a live version on the album Conspicuous only in it's absence recorded 1966. Check out the album. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pJGbTUEhYsQ
@beetlelover Yes you're right, the first version of the song came from The Great Society :) But technically it's a JA cover because The Great Society released their version officially in 1968, after the success of 1967 "Surrealistic Pillow". Anyway, I reported what was indicated in the booklet of "Twelve", where the song is listed as "originally performed by JA". Thanks for your comment and interest :D
Danke !
beetlelover no. The first band in recorded it and released it was The Jeffs. Grace wrote the song and only performed it belong with her first band The Great Society.
We were there in 1967
this is for Indra's possible enlightenment >>> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patty_Smyth
love this cover, ways better than the original tbh.
+Series I Love. bullshit :D
@Roodoo Zefreak
bullshit to you
Waitingfor Thedaytoend no. I love Patti Smith. And I think of this cover is terrific. But the original is better. Grace's voices is at another level, and Patti know that. She is a die hard Grace Slick's fan.
The Stooges came with a Punk Spirit & Attitude in USA, long time before arrival in Great Britain. 1969 ... No Fun ----> No Future ... I Wanna be your Dog same riff as long time after Troops of Tomorrow from Exploited.
It's always funny to see people here without any head: Patty Smyth is another American singer. You are too dumb to even understand the joke!
And punk existed in Great Britain before the small CBGB-movement. Also Debbie Harry with her early Blondie-group had more to do with punk than Patti Smith. Troll away you Indra-dummy!
I like the old stuff from her from the seventies. But this sounds more like the white rubbish of Patty Smyth...
interesting notice .... yes it is... really cold and scary !!!
scary good White Rabbit Patti Smith
patti . ..... . magic .
I didn't ask, but I'm glad you answered,
we're totally aligned !
Eleven people can't see the white rabbit.
Listen carefully. you will realise that music is all about holding ur interest. and patti Smith excels at that apparently here .
ela conseguiu tocar as musicas melhor que os originais.
PATTI IS WONDERFUL
in this track there's Flea on bass!
A powerful and contemporary interpretation of an ever relevant classic. Great work Patti, Lenny, Jay & Tony!
I love how it sounds a bit sinister in tone. Fantastic cover and Patti Smith is a great vocalist.
@itnow dont u hate freakin' knowitalls like me??
Awesome cover!! Love it!!
@itnow Everyone sounded like this back then--cheers to you for noticing tho--I love Patti--saw her 'live' in a bar while I was on mushrooms---I was a young person before "just say no" came out and cured everybody:))))
the original one is the best, but patti smith's cover is a pure concetrated of lsd... i love patti smith she's one of the most beautiful voice in whole the world...
Marcell
And WHAT IS the Original..... Bet you've never heard it ?
Original is by the Great Society . Slick brought the song with her from that group when she joined the Airplane .
bitchin & good to sing along with. & poetry too--one of the reasons i always loved patti.
not anywhere as better than the original >.>
@hilhorst234 i agree i have loved her since 1974 HORSES HORSES HORSES
@steve0281 BEST comment about Patti ever.
pretty cool cover
i think the original is better.. still good though
@steve0281 that...sounds...scary!!!
I can't imagine my life without Patti Smith singing in the back of my mind always.
I didn't know who Patti Smith was until I came across "Gloria" on youtube. Thank God I did!
Patty, I am in awe. This has some of the apocolyptic, terrifying feel the original JA version had when it first came out. AM Radio wouldn't play Jefferson Airplane anymore after "White Rabbit" turned on a whole generation of kids.
I LOVE her voice and I LOVE this cover. A really good cover if you ask me.
