+Charles Marcus Hi Charles! I am Labelle's unofficial fan/historian, and even I had no idea that there was a Labelle reunion on this video when it came out. Nona and Sarah are not even listed on the cover of the DVD. When I eventually saw this performance, I was angry that they weren't mentioned. Look at the crowd--they went nuts but still no mention. I think this performance was stellar, with Nona being her usual outrageous self and made me understand all over again why Labelle was so special.

They are all very very close. I did an interview with the reunited Labelle for BETJ (now Centric) and they were hilarious and FUN together! The "conflict" is the Sarah is just a shy person and while Patti and Nona are wild and gregarious onstage, she is just holding down the pocket. They love each other strong and they fight, but they have always said that. But there's no conflict. They DESTROYED the Apollo and Sarah tore it UP and Nona got up on the drums. IT WAS FIYAH! No bad blood!
I heard from someone very close to the reunion that there were tensions. Each lady has their own associates. I think it is evident Sarah is somewhat left out. Someone who attended Nona and Sarahs recent Lincoln Center performance said tensions were evident though I dont see it in the videos from that Laua Nyron tribute. Patti still wont talk about details of the group's "77 breakup. Some people have said Nona and Patti had a very close relationship.

It was and the song is featured on Patti's 1991 album Burnin'. Nona co-wrote this song and James Budd Ellison their late musical director produced this song. Budd is the man playing the piano. I saw a clip of them performing on a radio show recetnly live with an instrumental and they stil got it

I have a full dvd of LaBelle: Live In Concert and it is half and hour concert from 1974 to 1976 during their Nightbirds, Phoenix and Chameleon tour. It also has a bonus clip of Release Yourself from 1991 with Nona Hendryx, Sarah Dash and the lovely Patti LaBelle.
I love how Nona starts singing "Messing With My Mind" in the middle of this--very cool.
