Pat Benatar - Somebody's Baby Lyrics
He used to be sombody's baby
Someone used to hold him close
And rock him gently
He used to be the light in someone's eyes
He used to matter
He used to matter
Someone cared if he lived or died
Someone held him in their arms
When he cried
And when he hurt
Someone kept the world away
Someone loved him
Someone loved him
Someone used to hold him close
And rock him gently
He used to be the light in someone's eyes
He used to matter
He used to matter
That was then, that was so long ago
Long before they came and took his soul
Long before he became invisible
That was when, he wasn't human garbage then
He used to be somebody's baby
Someone used to hold him close
And rock him gently
He used to be the light in someone's eyes
He used to matter
He used to matter

Pat Benatar Somebody's Baby Comments
This song and video always brings me to tears. It's a shame people can judge you based only on what you have and don't have.
I have had most of her albums and somehow this is new to me. Great song which is typical for pat benatar.
What a lucky dog to get to spend his whole life with Pat Benatar.
True story -- I was in an elevator in NYC @late 80s or early 90s, and I told my friend a few lines of a song I was writing. I immediately thought to myself, hey you're in public, you never know who could hear and knick a few of your song lines--it happens all the time. Musicians are always searching for their next hook The lines I said were these - THEY USED TO BE SOMEONE'S PRECIOUS LITTLE BABY, NOW LIFE FOR THEM IS A GREAT BIG MAYBE. A few years later, I was having an unusually restless afternoon, and I suddenly got up with a strong urge to find a new radio station to listen to. Before I turned on the radio, I randomly spun the dial, and when I turned the radio on, it was perfectly tuned to a station, just in time to hear an announcer say, Ok, lets continue playing the entire album of pat benetar's new release. And this beautiful song immediately played. I could never have written and performed this as brilliantly as these people here, and I'll always wonder how the universe pulled this one off.
The sad thing for me is this isn't an official video! I know rights and all but seriously? This belongs right next to Hell Is For Children especially since today so many children in America are homeless!
This is the video they did for this song
I love Pat Benatar, she is one of my favorites. When I was 13 I used to try to immolate her look , lol. I had the attitude already!
Always think about people with addiction when hearing this song
Such a great song....her talent was and still is remarkable in my opinion....80s a true time for a artist to bring any type of expression of their talent to us....
I am also NOT making money off this video. I have tried again and again to remove ads and cannot figure it out.
This is a really badass, extraordinary song with a beautiful, empathetic message for the men forgotten by society. voice, guitar, bass, drums, production - working together with an incredible harmony
Pat sounds like Suzanna Huff from the bangles in this tune
25th anniversary of Bruce's death RIP
This by far her Best work and she has had some significant hits but this CD touched me on leavlas I didn't even know I had I were is I use to feel like some dead star getting ready explode and lash out at any one and anything that got in my way I would listen to this cd and the art and craft of her talent made me begain to notice rooms that I had growing in side of me that I had shut oof from my self I have let some of these rooms in my soul grow other s I keep shut because I have wild animals running loose in side the them to use one of Kate bush lines but I love the songs some body s baby and u and I
pat suffered from the same a lot of 80's artists suffered from, a lot couldn't transition over into the 90's , there was too much new strange quirky music out that everyone was indulging in at the time. so 80's artist's new stuff didn't do well because they already had their time.. sad, cause some 80's artist were putting some good stuff out. but record companies weren't promoting it well..
Great song . PAT is amazing..!
アリゾナのフェニックス辺りの乾いた街の夕暮れ時をドライブしながら聞いたら最高ですね😍😍😍
I remember my mom playing this repeatedly after her brother passed away suddenly... 23 years later and it still hasn't gone away... 😔
love it !
amazing song. Pat is a legend.
Love this Song, always have and always will, along with alot more from Pat, just awesome to listen to.
An iconic voice! Pure and simple❤️

Diane Marie Good on you for adding the lyrics Diane.
She gave the lyrics
really brilliant song so sad to think this is true so often in life
beautiful....... I hope people take something from this.................
I love Pat Benatar! But I have to ask, is this a remake of Jackson Browne's song?
No. It was written by Neil and Pat.
beautiful song and words.
A Fleetwood Mac style song but Pat Benatar :)
I notice this video has been removed. I cannot find it anywhere now. Please can you help?
+Billy Coetzee Hmm apparently it 's blocked in some countries. I can try to upload it to dailymotion later today.
@Stiggy333 Ahhh ok. I am in Macau, so perhaps that is the problem. Thank you
+Billy Coetzee https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YK68KvmM6Aw Here is a better quailty version. It might work for you.
BEAUTIFUL SONG!
I'm sorry for not having a better quality version of this one. This was the best I could get.
was that John Cougar Melloncamp I saw in the band?
I remember riding down to Florida in my Firebird Formula on Rt95 with my GF when this song first came out. I think we were in NC. Man I miss those days.
One of her best songs. Video always makes me sad, it really affects you.
Anything out of her mouth is her best song
used to listen to this over and over and over and over and . . . what a beautiful and very melancholy song with beautiful singing (as always with Pat Benatar) and that very distinctive Neil Giraldo playing. Glad I revisited it. Thank you Pat and Neil.
Pat is great!!!
I still love her music always have through this day she a gem
I am one off them. Lost and driving on hoping for a great tomorrow .
That day is just around the corner. Hold on for it.
I was looking up the novel "Gravity's Rainbow' on Wikipedia and there was the reference to Pat's album...I had forgotten how much I loved this song!!
This is my favorite song by her. And I have all of her cds since she started recording music. I love her voice!
I love Gravitys Rainbow! Could have been a major hit with the right promotion...
PAT: TE AMO.,TU MUSICA ME TRANSPORTA AL CIELO HACIENDOLE EL AMOR A LAS NUBES...BESOS.
This is a great song and easily one of her best though it didn't get as much airplay as it deserved. She wasn't just a rocker from the 80's but showed that she could rock in the 90's as well. Very moving video as well that has a lot of impact.
super chida la rola amo a Pat Benatar <3 :P
You're making me jealous! I've never gotten to see her. She actually came here to WV last year and of course I couldn't go. I am still so sad. I saw a clip here on youtube from the show and it looked incredible. I wish I could have went. : (
I LOVE this song and glad to have seen Pat sing this in concert at least 3 times now!
Love it, been a fave song of mine since I was lil...
What a great song!
Love it, just awesome!
I just finished watching the entire video...I'm now crying.
This song is a hidden gem. People seemed to ignore her after the infamous swing album, but this is really good.
absolutely awesome video. words alone are not enough. makes you stop and look at people differently.
Just great video from one of the BEST SINGERS EVERRR!!!! PAT BENATAR!!!
Would someone please upload a better quality video of this up on you tube! Sheesh! :( Pat Benatar only has the best female voice in the universe!
Another relavant song from Pat Benatar
@saltwatercb Look for the long play of "Here's my heart" from the remake of Metropolis by Georgio Moroder.A new digital copy is now out : the Metroplis Redux available on the web. It brings me to tears every time.
They broke the mould after Pat was born.
Yeah! Pat's the best!
This was one of those "right time, right place" songs for me. The lyrics and melody still hold a lot of emotion and memories for me, but I won't bore you with those. Suffice to say I'm grateful for this song and the incredible magic and feeling behind it....Absolutely one of Pat's best.
Thank you Pat and Neil....
One of Pat's best--gorgeous melody, poignant lyrics, and as always, incredible vocals. No one can move from the gently operatic to sandpaper rock-and-rolling like Pat Benatar. She alone has that kind of dexterity and stylistic range.
this song is pure emotion.
Thanks to Pat & Neil for recording it.
Few groups in the world are able to have such a song in their career.
it was out in 1993
But this song didn't come out until the early 90's, and I didn't think Pat was at Live Aid.
no one does soulful/social conscience like pat & co. x
My favorite Pat Benatar song ! It's unfortunate that it's one of her least known songs to all but true fans of hers because lyrical and musically it's a thing of beauty. I feel very lucky to have seen her in concert over the years. Thanks for posting this .
This is an amazing song! It really makes you think about things and and take a step back and maybe rethink some things as well.
I don't know, she was like that on the album cover too.
Great song, and a very incredible video,
very moving. :(
But why is Pat dressed like Joni Mitchell? (See Joni's "Heijra" album cover, weird)
ONE OF BENATAR'S GREATEST SONGS.
pat benatar is the SHIT
What a great and beautiful video! The song is amazing as well.
