Partridge Family, The - Point Me In The Direction Of Albuquerque Lyrics

Window walkin' downtown, feelin' mighty good
And I noticed from the corner how all alone she stood
Underneath the lamplight, an angel in disguise
Lonely little runaway with teardrops in her eyes

Crazy little ragdoll, her hair was wild and tossed
And I put my arm around her 'cause I knew that she was lost
She didn't seem to notice that anyone was near
'Til suddenly she turned to me and whispered in my ear

Point me in the direction of Albuquerque
I want to go home and help me get home
Point me in the direction of Albuquerque
I need to get home, need to get home

Showed me a ticket for a Greyhound bus
Her head was lost in time
She didn't know who or where she was
"And anyone that helps me is a real good friend of mine"
(Real good friend of mine)

Point me in the direction of Albuquerque
And help me get home, help me get home

Walked her to the station and kissed away the tears
Knowing I'd remember through all the coming years
Ragdoll on that Greyhound who waved with all her might
Weeped against the window as the bus rolled out of sight

Point me in the direction of Albuquerque
I want to go home and help me get home
Point me in the direction of Albuquerque
I need to get home, need to get home
Point me in the direction of Albuquerque
I need to get home, need to get home

I’m 50. I don’t remember this show on prime time. But I remember the face of the actress who played the runaway girl. There was something about this episode... thank God for reruns.

  9. C.... H....

wanted to see the show. not hear the song. thumbs down

  10. N.... R....

One of the very first songs I ever heard, and for some bizarre reason almost always brings a little tear to me eyes. Possibly going back to a time of total innocence in my life?

  11. c.... ....

    Love this song. :-)

  12. M.... G....

Do you all know the name of the young actress who played the runaway in this episode? She would go on to gain success with Sarah Jessica Parker in a total chick flick tv series. Her name is Cynthia Nixon.

  13. a.... h....

still have no clue what needs done inside no straight answers just lies and games

  14. c.... ....

Someone should start a town in New Mexico and call it Kumquist ! Love
the song. Unlike many PF songs this one really had a meaning and
    substance. Great beat as well.

Was a closet Partridge Family Fan in the early 70s. Loved the show and the Music. I wish I had all the baseball type cards of them I collected back then. There very collectible now.

  25. G.... V....

Based on hits, they belong in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

  26. D.... C....

Hi. Well, sir, I'm coming up on 58 and, this is one, of my favourite songs. I, even, have a P.F. top five: 1. "Summer Days" 2. "I'm On My Way(Back Home)"
    3. "Point Me, In The Direction, Of Albuquerque)" 4. " Echo Valley 2-6809 and,
    5. ``It`s One, Of Those Nights.``

  27. y.... ....

    :) ......

  28. R.... B....

Another piece of my childhood has gone with the passing of David Cassidy! I'm thankful for the music that he left us. May God give you peace and rest my dear friend!

  29. N.... H....

    One of David's favorite song.

  30. C.... O....

    Best pop songs ever!

  31. D.... C....

I agree the 'group' had some fine, tunes, with stick-in-your-head melodies. My top 3 would be(and, the margin is soooo close)1. "I'm On My Way(Back Home)", 2. "Summer Days" and, "Point Me(In The Direction, Of Albuquerque.") Lovely, Laurie Prange didn't hurt that episode, one bit!

  32. c.... ....

Seems like only yesterday. 1971 in fourth grade listening to and watching them on TV. David Cassidy made me want to be a rock star. Collected all the Partridge Family bubble gum cards. Now it's many decades later, the music is silenced as David Cassidy is gone. Suddenly I feel very very old.

  33. e.... t....

David’s voice is so pure and clear. Real talent.

  34. B.... E....

Really, was all this so bad? To be replaced by Kiss in the late '70s and Motley Crüe in the '80s. Was all this so bad?

    B.... E....

Bradley Evans I went to Elton John in the mid 70s and Journey/Steve Perry in the 80s but David Cassidy will always have a big piece of my heart. Sometimes you have to step away and be exposed to other things to appreciate the quality of what you loved in the beginning.

  35. b.... ....

This is a nice song, but I don't understand people saying that it was their best. "I Can Feel your Heartbeat" is their best.

    b.... ....

David wrote in his autobiography that he really liked this song, "Point Me in the Direction of Albuquerque."

    b.... ....

    Personal opinions xx

  36. T.... T....

    Still a great song.

  37. L.... M....

Chris and Danny been caught stolen Keith's stuff

  38. D.... J....

He was pop not rock and roll???
    WTH??

    D.... J....

Dee JayDee exactly! he was rock n roll. This is rock n roll. He got robbed. Not with me he didn’t. I know, his fans know.

  39. P.... S....

RIP David Cassidy from somebody in Albuquerque.

    P.... S....

R.I.P David.... Amazing actor...singer and human being.

  40. S.... U....

Always one of my favourite songs.

  41. C.... W....

For a kid living in a city nobody could spell when I visited relatives, this episode and song meant so, so much. RIP David Cassidy!

    C.... W....

Is this the state song of New Mexico?

    C.... W....

j.denino57 no, just a song from a TV show.

  48. L.... M....

2:51 I was wondering how the thumbnail looked so strange

  49. p.... ....

I remember the hours I used to sit listening to PF LPs. Those were better times. David had such an amazing voice. I was listening to a song a few weeks ago and thought I wish David Cassidy had done that song. His voice is so mellow and comforting, it would have been so much nicer to listen to. Thanks for the love and thanks for the memories, David. <3

  50. G.... ....

    Still awesome!

  51. R.... Q....

good for you mike, today's music is horable

  52. m.... ....

I bought this album, "Up To Date" and really liked this song. Later they had an episode of this song on the show, a girl coming up to David, (I forget his name in the show) and asking him to point her in the direction of ABQ. I knew what song was going to on the show.

  53. C.... 4....

  64. t.... ....

Yep...Definitely in my top 3 along with Echo Valley 26809...

  65. W.... D....

So many memories came flooding back when I heard a Partridge Family song ...

  66. M.... J....

You can criticize all you want, but I'll take the music from the 60s over today's anyday!!I still have the albums and a couple of cds that came out later, and I play them all the time (and I'm 60 years old!!!!!!!)

    M.... J....

absolutely 50s 60s 70s there IS no substitute

    M.... J....

There were many more plane crashes back then from what I remember, I seem to remember a mid air collision of two commercial jets and 500 people dying. Air travel seems safer today. Knock wood.

    M.... J....

I agree! Part of its magic lies in the fact that many of us ( myself included) were old enough to appreciate the music but not old enough to care, much less understand most of the nasty stuff that was also part of that era.

    M.... J....

The Tenerife airport disaster? That was in '77. That wasn't a mid-air collision, but rather one of two B-747's, one trying to take off, and one trying to find its way off of the runway colliding, in a fog, killing 583 people, and making it the deadliest accident in aviation history. Maybe you're thinking of Pacific Southwest Airlines Flight 182 that collided with a private Cessna 172 over San Diego, California in '78? The death toll of 144 made it the deadliest air disaster in the United States, until the crash of American Airlines Flight 191 eight months later.

    M.... J....

    I agree

  67. f.... ....

I hate pulling that "I'm - - years old" crap.
My mom loves the Partridge Family and would watch when they first aired, and had all the records.
I remember being a little kid and her playing those records while she would clean around the house. And would watch the shows when they would come on, by repeat or at the time VHS lol

I dunno, it just reminds me of being a kid and spending time with my mom way back... I'm a 24 year old guy and I still enjoy watching the shows and listening to the music lol
Plus now the DVDs are out it was perfect for birthday/Christmas gifts for her lol and some time to sit down and spend some time with her.

    f.... ....

You can be defined as a fourth generation fan if you are only 24 now.
You are watching a TV show that first aired in the very late 60s to mid 70s.
The youngest surviving cast members of The Partridge Family (Brian Forster, and Danny Bonaduce) are now old enough to be your grandfathers. The older cast members such as Susan Dey and David Cassidy could be your great grandparents.

    f.... ....

I hear you about that "crap" of human nature needing to identify with a certain tribe. But the older I get (I'm ----years old) the more I smile and have compassion as opposed to get offended with a human feels compelled to do or say something which is altogether too predictable or obvious, because, we have and/or will ALL do or have done it, because it is simply human nature after all. I was almost ten, and Keith Partridge was my second crush after speed racer, or maybe third after Kimba the White Lion. See, I'm doing that tribal thing too, cuz whoops, I'm human! And, I have all the records, and, certain songs too many decades later saw me through extremely difficult times and have become integral parts of the story of my life....oh, I could write a book about how the Partridge Family's greatest hits features in the soundtrack of my oh-so-anonymous life!

    f.... ....

no, wait....maybe Johnny Gage (played by Randolf Mantooth) was my second or third excruciating crush. I don't know what I like to brag about my age, but, in light of life, I am certainly proud to have attained it in any event, and, I'd always hoped as an old fart I might still be able to connect, and so blur the generational divide a wee tad bit. I know a lot of my high school athletes I coach get a kick out of me, whether because I'm not a normal "old person", and I know some have a new improved idea about what the flexibities and realities of aging are and find themselves thanking me for being me, a perfect representative of the human species demonstrating - if we but understood - perhaps a wee tad bit eccentric but by and large universal display of human nature

  68. M.... B....

    RIP,Tracy!!!'

    M.... B....

+Maurice Belk So sad. Who would have thought the youngest of them would kick first. The way things are going with Cassidy and his train wreck of a life, it could be him next!

    M.... B....

Well, not to be so morbid, but it seems it will either be him or Danny Bonaduce, not in that order. Danny Bonaduce almost committed suicide on TV. I have heard that David tried to rescue Danny from a troubled life, but it seems that Danny's self destructive ways rubbed off on David .

    M.... B....

  69. C.... W....

Looooove this song this is what family is about

  70. L.... ....

    Really a lovely song!!

    L.... ....

+LoveinbloomDC David Cassidy has a beautiful voice!

    L.... ....

    written by Tony Romeo

  71. R.... B....

If this isn't the best song the Partridge's did, it's in the top 5.  Susan Dey was off-the-charts beautiful, incredibly photogenic.

    R.... B....

My favourite of theirs too - for me it stood out so much more than anything else they did, and really helped to show David Cassidy's vocal range much more than usual.

    R.... B....

I always thought Susan Dey resembled Michelle Phillips from the Mammas and the Pappas.

    R.... B....

@Randy Ventresca Me too. I had a huge crush on her. And when she was on LA Law...OMG!

    R.... B....

@Greg Klein Of course Michele Phillips daughter would grow up and become a member of the band Wilson Phillips.

    R.... B....

She was my first childhood crush! I wonder how many young boys had the same crush? Such a beautiful young lady and woman she is 💗

  72. S.... ....

I was a little kid and my sister, as a pre-teen, had this album at the time.  Nowadays I have the same basic tonal pitch as David Cassidy and for some reason I can sing all the Partridge Family songs dead on for karaoke.  I often sing "I Think I Love You", "I Can Hear Your Heartbeat", "Somebody Wants To Love You", "Brand New Me" and this one.

    S.... ....

+SWLinPHX Yet we've never heard of you. Whatever.

    S.... ....

+jsb99888 LOL, are you for real? Since when are you supposed to "hear about someone" from them singing karaoke??

    S.... ....

    You're right - never.

    S.... ....

+jsb99888 …so then what was the whole point of your comment? I still don't get it.

  73. d.... ....

damn Susan D. was a hottie..I was in loveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. If I missed this show on friday I was one p.o. kid

  74. P.... L....

    Thank you.

  75. S.... R....

Geoff, I feel the same way.....I was 12-13 years of age.  Had a BIG crush on Susan Day.

    S.... R....

    me too...me too

    S.... R....

    +Sam Roth and me!!!!!!

    S.... R....

    +Sam Roth So did I . . . and I was 6 when the show debuted.

    S.... R....

You should have had a crush on Suzanne Crough.

    S.... R....

There is no place like home!

  76. G.... E....

This song makes me cry brings back great memories

  77. S.... S....

Loved this song since i had the Album back in the 70s, I started learning to play drums with their albums and Monkees too; still a drummer today...

  78. U.... ....

This song was written by Tony Romeo, who also wrote "I Think I Love You". This sounds like a song Elvis would have recorded! Awesome stuff!

    U.... ....

I have no doubts that Willie Nelson could do a great cover of this (or most other tunes) but my guess is that  he would take it in completely different direction.

    U.... ....

Willie stopped doing Coke, but still smoke's grass everyday ,i hope he is okay.

    U.... ....

johnny rock everyone stopped doing coke when it ceased to exist. Maybe trump will bring it back

    U.... ....

    I guess you do not come from Houston ; There are warehouses full of coke waiting to be distributed all over like New Orleans ,Las Vegas etc,as long as Americans have money Coke will always be around.Hail Trump ;

    U.... ....

Tony Romeo wrote many Partridge Family songs as well as songs for David's solo albums. As a singer/songwriter myself, I can tell you that Tony Romeo was a great songwriter. One of the best!

  79. A.... K....

    awesome

  80. B.... K....

I got to see David in concert last night at the Rockland Lobster Festival here in Maine...he is still HOT!!!!

  81. S.... C....

    Absolutely right.

  82. S.... C....

    Laurie Partridge was hot.

  83. G.... F....

I agree, this is a great song. The horns and the bassline are great.

  84. S.... b....

Love it, thanks for posting...I have every one of their trading cards...brings back the few of my favorite memories.

  85. c.... ....

Among the top PF songs...never forgot it.... never will.

  86. L.... J....

Love this and especially DC ;)

  87. D.... ....

Ha! At 0:50 I used to have a shirt like Chris' when I was a kid :]

  88. e.... ....

    Good music!

  89. d.... ....

    Wisteria Lane in the 1970's.........LOL.

  90. B.... ....

One of the better produced PF songs \m/

  91. J.... R....

    you're so right!!

  92. r.... ....

I ended up a hard rocker but still remember this song as a kid. This song is still a classic.

  93. V.... ....

Many of the Partridge Family songs were really good. The problem I think some people have with them are with the arrangements. Some of them are a little on the bubble gum side. But the songs themselves, and Cassidy's vocals , are very good.

  94. k.... ....

Great song well performed. Many memories. Thanks for the post.

  95. r.... ....

Your not alone..i grew up in Brooklyn in the 70s and i wtached the show just to check out there songs,,cool stuff

  96. T.... W....

Had a huge crush on David Cassidy LOL

  97. J.... M....

Too many people want to laugh at the show, make fun of the music, dissect the lives of the actors, especially Danny Bonaduce. But separate the show and music, and put them back together again, and you get classic!

  98. J.... G....

Yes I watched this show when I was a kid. This is a good song, and brings back great memories!
