Parton, Dolly - Sing For The Common Man Lyrics

You may not know me now
But I have been around
You'll never see my name on any pages

I'm just the common man
The fool who understands
The pain you go through
When life takes you under

So, sing for the common man
A song for the common man
He paid for the song with the sweat of his brow
He will survive, he will survive

You may not know my mother
My sisters or my brothers
Yet everyone has given for the other
You know the working man
He builds what others plan
So, everyone of us should sing his story

So, sing for the common man
A song for the common man
He paid for the song with the sweat of his brow
He will survive, he will survive

Dat after day
He keeps working away
In offices, factories, and farms
Year after year
He sheds tear after tear
He will provide, he will survive

So, sing for the common man
A song for the common man
He paid for the song with the sweat of his brow
He will survive, he will survive

  2. Heartboy1031

Why wasn't this a hit on the radio? Dolly's sister Freida and her husband (at the time) Mark Andersen wrote this gem .

  3. Wayne A White

This song is in fact an anthem and a concept we can all identify with

+Craig Brown ME TOO! But it's only 35years old!! TIMELESS MUSIC THOUGH!

    Wayne A White

Doesn't it seem like she has had multiple careers over the last 50 years as though she has lived different lives within the last 50 years. Her body of work is so vastly wide it makes me wonder if she remembers all her songs

I totally love this song. It always reminds me of rhe time my whole family and I drove to the village in December 2011. My brothers kept humming the song every time it played. It brings a lot of other pleasant memories. It often makes me cry too.

Thank you little sparrow, a beautiful and memorable song from my pre-teen days! Honestly..this when country music was the very best in the 1980s...after the 80s..I do not know what hapened...but to meet me, you would not believe that I enjoy 1980s country music...I do...because country music had a story in ther lyrics, especially Crystal Gayle and Eddie Rabbitt....I really loved Sylvia..all of these songs played i the baathroom of my dad's house .Thank you again
