She did a great job.

I love this - it's adorable.  The original was written in a gospel style, so it lends itself well to this re-working.  That's one of the things I've always liked about Bon Jovi - their songs often had strong elements of something other than 80s hair metal (like gospel, country, blues, soul, etc).  It makes them more interesting than other bands that were considered their peers at the time.

What absolute total garbage. This is one of if not the worst cover song I have heard. And Why do shit pop bands try to do covers of rock classic's ( obviously to make easy money). Dolly Parton has totally destroyed this song. This totally sucks big time. Thank god the rock scene is making a comback to save us all from the absolute garbage of x factor music.

Great Version!!    She had asked Jon Bon Jovi about turning this into a gospel song.  He was so for it, he brought Richie Sambora down, and the three of them pretty much completely rewrote the lyrics into a gospel track.

It sounds like she heard the song once, in the background of a busy room, and just decided to sing what she thought the lyrics were

Bon Jovi and Sambora helped her make her version. And she's said she mostly heard it from her husband's den; rock is his type of music, not hers.

First and foremost, in order for Dolly to do the song, she had to have Jon Bon Jovi's approval. Obviously he thought it good enough to allow her to sing it.....yeah that.

Two - A clue in for those who do not realize, this song in the country world, will bring them into the rock world by finding the original. It does a fantastic job of opening people to different music styles, that might have never been listened to.

Three - For a country/gospel version of this song, I personally think it is fantastic. And by no means am I a country fan. Dolly does it great justice for the audience she has.

Four - Dolly is smashing it. If it was a shitty song, it would certainly show. She keeps the spirit of the original smash hit, and still brings it a new life it might have not ever had.

No one can replace the Bon Jovi person...kind of like no one can replace Lord of the Rings. But as long as people keep the spirit of the song/book/movie/play, they can interpret it to what it means to them.

Great song but the Bon Jovi version is still far better.

Liam Hodgins their version is not even close to being better when both versions are EQUALLY the best versions. I have Dolly's blue smoke CD (and I have other CDs of her) and I have about six bon Jovi CDs including two that have their version on it. There is no one version being better than the other when both are equally as great

Wow!  This album is just great from back to front. It is not trying to be heavy handed with a message or a story just great barnstormin' two-step music!  Somebody get this on the radio!
