Parsons, Gram - She Lyrics

She she came from the land of the cotton
Land that was nearly forgotten by everyone
And She worked and she slaved so hard
A big old field was her back yard in the delta sun

Oh, but she sure could sing
Oh, she sure could sing

Then he looked down and he took a little pity
The whole town swore he decided
He'd help her some
And he didn't mind if she wasn't very pretty
For deep inside his heart he knew
She was the only one

Oh but she sure could sing
Yeah she sure could sing

She had faith, she had believing
She led all the people together in singing
And she prayed every night to the Lord up Above
Singing Hallelujah oh hallelujah

They use to walk singing songs by the river
Even when she knew for sure
She had to go away
And she never knew what her life had to give her
And never had to worry about it
For one single day

My but she sure could sing
Oh yes sure could sing

She had faith, she had believing
Led all the people together in singing
And she prayed every night to the lord up above
Hallelujah oh hallelujah

She she came from the land of the cotton
Land that was nearly forgotten by everyone
And she worked and she slaved so hard
A big old field was her back yard in the delta sun

Oh, but she sure could sing
My, she sure could sing
Oh, but she sure could sing
Oh, but she sure could sing

  5. F.... C....

Makes country so elevated but not beyond. Just it's where I am.

  6. J.... W....

You put him and Emmylou Harris together and you really have something. He should be in Country Music Hall of Fame just because he was first to combine rock with country!

  7. s.... ....

    Hallelujah ♥  ॐ

  8. C.... B....

Really strange experience. I was driving through Joshua tree about a month ago and the satellite radio country station started playing gram's music in this one area. 3 songs back to back and none before or after the entire day. It was very fitting.

  9. p.... r....

46 years later and this still sounds fantastic. Eternally 26 years old

Nashville didn't like, Hank Williams the first, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard... Of course they didn't like Gram. Their taste sucks! BTW, Jason Aldean is in the country music hof!

Doesn't really matter after it all. He gave his songs and his sound and made a mark bigger than any building or institution. And let us not forget all the others; many of whom are still here and stayed lit and did not tragically burn to a sad end.

  29. S.... S....

    Absolutely unmatched beauty and talent

  30. T.... T....

THE TRUE LEGEND OF GRAM PARSONS FUNERAL PYRE IN THE DESERT.
ONE OF THE COOLEST THINGS THAT HAS EVER HAPPENED.

  31. B.... ....

    Hallelujah hallelujah

  32. K.... D....

Just add an ice cube... The best Caucasian soul singer on record. Indeed.

  33. B.... ....

gram such a beautiful song wish he's lived longer. RIP. love, T

  34. D.... U....

Fantastic piece and soooo mellow. He sure could write and sing.

  35. B.... ....

He would have been a legend had he lived.

    B.... ....

He' s much more of a legend for dying the rock n roll death.

    B.... ....

He's kind of a legend anyhow.

    B.... ....

He is a legend, without a doubt.

    B.... ....

    Bruno..Gram Parsons IS a legend.

  36. D.... F....

when oh when will Gram ever be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame? long overdue

    D.... F....

One day all debts will be paid.

    D.... F....

I am not big expert on country, but i like gram’s music a lot... he should be up there with all the great country stars...

    D.... F....

He will forever be a cult hero figure well after his generation has passed on

    D.... F....

I am of his time and 💕 this man and his music. Even though his nudie suit is in the Country Music Hall of Fame he has not been inducted into it or into the Rock'n' Roll Hall of Fame. It's greatly disappointing that still after all this time he still isn't recognized as one of the influencing greats!! I'm hoping that it happens soon, I'd love for Keith Richards to be the person that gives that honor. I'm so thankful that I was right in the burst of the 60's-70's music, it was so incredible, great and epic time !!!
    ☮️🙏💜

  37. t.... ....

Gone but not forgotten.R.I.P. Gram, who would have been 69 today.

  38. b.... s....

A lovely vocal performance from Gram and great arrangement and playing from all the band

  39. A.... O....

Mi canción preferida. Ole Gram! Iré a Mojave, encontraré tu cadaver y le rendiremos el debido tributo!!!!

  40. N.... D....

Love this song, gone so young and way too soon.

  41. J.... S....

Hey now, this is nice. I'm an atheist but I quite like this.

    J.... S....

@Josh Swann dont give a flyin ' well you know

    J.... S....

    God forgives you.

  42. J.... B....

    This song is beautiful.

  43. T.... O....

    It's about his mother

    T.... O....

    @inertia27 Wait, it's not?

    T.... O....

no the song about his mother is called "Brass Buttons and it is on the "Grievous Angel" album

    T.... O....

No, it's about his love for his mother.  Reach bios

    T.... O....

Tusie,, No it's not about his mother who was a socialite, nor was it about Emmylou...With a line that states " She wasn't very pretty" how on earth could it be ?

    T.... O....

@Tusie O'Brien no it isn't about his mother

  44. J.... C....

The immortal Gram Parsons. A recent release by an excellent country/folk musician, Doug Seegers, interprets this great song very, very nicely and worth a listen, my friends.

  45. W.... ....

    Is this song about Emmylou?

    W.... ....

@Antonio Dias I think you misunderstand my comment. Emmylou is and always was a major babe.

    W.... ....

No "She" isn't about Emmylou Harris

    W.... ....

As far as I know Gram Parsons was from a wealthy family and had a trust fund, so I don't think this song can be about his mother.

    W.... ....

    Look it up

    W.... ....

Windyhair Some wires crossed here. The song "BRASS BUTTONS" is about Gram's mother, a hard core alcoholic who did love him but came unglued.

  46. A.... ....

    Such a beautiful song ❤️🎶

Couldn't agree more, a breath of fresh air.

    T.... D....

I love Gram Parsons. Its a crime that hes not in the RNR Hall of Fame. A whole genre was built on his foundation.
