Parquet Courts - Human Performance Lyrics
I know exactly, where I was when I
First saw you the way I see you now, through these eyes, waiting to retry
Those pristine days I, recall so fondly
So few are trials when a life isn't lonely, and now if only
I'd never felt it, I'd never heard it
I know I loved you did I even deserve it, when you returned it
There's no suspicion, no hesitation
Believing through the eyes of sore, adoration
Witness and know, fracture and hurt
Eyes in the fire, blink unrehearsed
Shield like a house, closing its doors
Curved in the dark, rinses of yours
Ashtray is crowded, bottle is empty
No music plays and nothing moves with-out drifting, into a memory
Busy apartment, no room for grieving
Sink full of dishes and no trouble believing, that you are leaving
Mid-sentence tremors, mind at its weakest
One way of shaking off the thoughts that it sleeps with
Witness and know, fracture and hurt
Eyes in the fire, blink unrehearsed
Shield like a house, closing its doors
Curved in the dark, rinses of yours
In walks the darkness, I pitch without you
Asks me do I realize what I'd done and who I'd done to, indeed I do know
It never leaves me, just visits less often
It isn't gone and I won't feel its grip soften, without a coffin
Breathing beside me, feeling its warmness
Phantom affection gives a human, performance
Witness and know, fracture and hurt
Eyes in the fire, blink unrehearsed
Shield like a house, closing its doors
Curved in the dark, rinses of yours

Ashtray is crowed, bottle is empty, no music plays and nothing moves without drifting, into a memory.
Wow.
Fucking love this band ❤️
There’s so much people who hate parquet courts I don’t see why there great
Behold the perception of the concept of a human consciousness
A. Savage is a hell of a lyricist.
Now the ball is in YOUR parquet court
Found this when I asked what I would like compared to "The Suburbs" by Arcade Fire. I'm so happy I got sent here.
this sounds like pavement what the hell fam
I can listen to this forever
The lyrics are amazing
Hearing a touch of elliott smith in some of these transitions mate
Anybody know what keyboard they're using on the interlude @2:23?
oh. it's flute?!
So I know everyone thinks this sounds like every band but has anyone compared it to "Up The Junction" by SQUEEZE? I feel like that's really the best comparison.
I hear a bit of Monochrome Set (look it up, you kids).

Does the verse remind anyone else of strawberry fields forever?
2:29 i love and hate that they only do that chord thing with the bass once in the entire song. on one hand. doing it once makes it special, and on the other i wanna hear it more
They make good music who cares who they sound like.
it's THE YUMMY FUR!!!!!
Does anyone else get Whitney Houston and slayer vibes from this song
Whoa dude....that's like eerily on target. I'll never hear their music the same again!
I love this
In his new album, they sound also like Gang of Four and The Clash.
it sounds like outdoor miner by wire
This song is like someone gently stroking my brain with a feather
I haven't heard too many of these guys' songs... Do they have any other songs in this style?
Great band/Great song!!!!!!!
Wrote a blog for uni and a human performance album review features, if you have a minute and want to have a read it would help me out, cheers https://jacksalbumoftheweek.blogspot.co.uk/
Don't listen to this if you've recently broken up with someone.
Holy shit they sound EXACTLY like Parquet Courts
tanner ricky Dude, you're totally right; I can hear it!
Nah man I dont see that at all
you’re all wrong this is just outdoor miner by wire
hmm to each is own i guess. not my cup of tea.
Pearl Jam Radio sent me here.
Whenever I listen to this song I imagine what it would be like to be a corporate slave
I made a new friend who recommended this song to me. This is so good :')
This band sounds a lot like Parkay Quarts
yesterdays' papers nah
Dang you're right, they really do.
this is good but not as good as the Neon Genesis Evangelion theme song
When he goes into the chorus: it sounds like something from ELO
I discovered them last week and went to their concert yesterday. What a band, and what a song.
This doesn't sound like Television or Pavement, but it sure as hell lends a lot from Wire's Outdoor Miner
This was 100% what i thought
100000000000000000% its outdoor miner exactly same song
came to find this haha gracias man cabron
Unauthorized list of bands that sound like Parquet Courts:
The Strokes

Huge Television
Elvis Costello
Jimi Hendrix (vocals only)
Velvet Underground
Television (Marquee Moon)
The Beatles (Strawberry Fields Forever)
Electric Light Orchestra
Orange Juice (vocals only)

*TO BE CONTINUED*
How did you leave out Shins
Update: Devo
Franz Ferdinand have a somewhat similar sound at times
Frank Black and the Catholics, too
I was getting on here to say it sounded like Jimi Hendrix and the Strokes. I approve of, at least this song, more than I've ever approved of any modern music.
Always know sometimes it's me
But you know I know when it's a dream
I think I know I mean a "Yes"
But it's all wrong
That is I think I disagree
Beautiful song
Real Mumford and Sons vibes here
持つ楽器が違うよね。こんなに力強いのに。でもそこが良い
oh my god this sounds just like me being a hipster. have i impressed anyone?
Foxygen anyone?
As much as this song is derivative of their (great) material on Sunbathing Animal and Light Up Gold, the lead vox are so much more sophisticated- this track is kind of like a summation of everything great about this band!
They remind me of Doves, I think they're way more special than mediocre!! ❤❤
Man that bass guitar chorus lead-in is infectuous groove baby!
ashtray is crowded / bottle is empty
This one is very Orange Juice- / Edwyn Collins-like in vocals.
Killed it.
best song of the year
what a fucking brilliant song.
pearl jam?
they never disappoint...
saygı duruşuna geçtim
89 people didn't even deserve it.
Yea I feel bad for anyone who downvotes this song, their lives must be a joyless mindless slog.
Does anyone else hear a touch of Hendrix in his voice in the verses?
Yes! The vocals and style. lol
+ Paul South I've just started listening to this band so I'm unbiased in my comments and I don't know who Pavement is either. I read your comment and listened to this again . There is diffidently a bit of Hendrix in the singer's voice and his pronouncement . Good catch !
More like John Richman
Absolutely...The inflections are all there.
Perhaps a little bit of the vocals
fucking solid album. If you like these guys you might like some of my original compositions..or you might not. check em out on my channel
ok we get it you listen to Elvis Costello
bad comment, try again
ok we get it you listen to Declan Patrick MacManus
I don't think you're as smart as you think you are, sir.
love this album
If I were to believe the comment section, Parquet Courts sounds like every band that ever existed.
A lil like Collins but not completely.
Sorry, no, that's right: not 100%!
Adrian Amjadi they do, and then some, if that makes any sense.... it's like, you find yourself thinking, 'yes, in view of everything I heard, this makes sense, it's the next logical step'
This song saved my life.
Hendrix is back!!
Wow is all I've got to say.
The best of those psychedelic + art rock years... in one album, in one band.
Probably my most favourite band at the moment, they have taken The Velvet Underground, Television, , The Fall, Camper Van Beethoven, & Pavement and re-distilled their essence in a most original way.
reminds me of a lot of bands. has a vocal styling a lot like Johnathan Richman but also hear a little Jimi Hendrix in there. I sorta get the television and talking heads sound in some of the songs but I don't get how people compare them to pavement
Sounds a bit like Mark Lanegan but a smoother voice which is no disrespect to Mark at all and very weighty lyrics
Great sound! something from the 60's ?
SALVAJE
that cover art is dope
69 people fail to give a human performance.
killer song!
If anyone is interested I'm selling a ticket for their gig in Paris on the 27th of June :)
Stranglers+Television+Pavement had a baby, a sweet little baby.
I grew up going to small shows like Nirvana, Sonic Youth, Sugar, Butthole Surfers, Dead Milmen, PiL......
I went to see PC in Vancouver at the Rickshaw. This song was a highlight of the show.
PC brought out some nostalgia moments...and I time travelled a bit.
I purchased their lps and was curious to see if they're more artists or expressionist. seeing them live made a huge swing in my head that they're legit and not a preachy entitled bratcore kid band.
Would have been appropriate for this band to play at the Old Boston Garden when the Celtics played basket ball on the legendary Parquet floor until the Garden closed in 1995 and torn down a year later. Imagine advertising: Parquet courts to play on the Parquet Floor LOL. When the New Garden opened they did bring the Parquet floor to the new building.
The problem today is that we have too many references and we're trying to classify music before even trying to listen to it. Shut the f**k up and enjoy!
going to see these dudes edinburgh next month, Mercury rev 2 days after I think. Will be good x
Shoutout to Pitchfork for bringing me here. I can see why they gave this a best new music review.
@ColoredSpaces
who ever mixed this is fucking brilliant
never have i heard my anxiety so accurately yet eloquently described
I'm 42 years old... I just heard myself tell myself, that this is the best musical number I will hear in my life. I'm pretty sure I'm right, been around the block you know. Found God when I was 27 too.
JuvoII WOW COOL! Where was he?? I’ve been looking everywhere...could of sworn I put him in that upper left dresser drawer :/
I'm 68 and I love it! We weren't exactly without good music when teenagers but this is great!
Yassssss Kween!!!
Sounds in the beginning like Richard Hell also.
+pincmin I was thinking this album has a lot of Pere Ubu and Television sound to it … also Mellow Gold era beck on Captive Of the Sun… Lou Reed and early NoMeansNo elsewhere.. etc Its a patchwork quilt of influences IMHO...
his voice on this song reminds me jimi hendrix so much
To me it sounds _very_ reminiscent of Nick Gravenites, best known for his work with Janis Joplin & Mike Bloomfield in the 1960s.
really nice.
this is how you do a title track
I don't think the Pavement comparison is inaccurate. Sounds a lot like Harness your Hopes.
Awesome. these guys never fail to deliver.
velvet underground +++++++++++++++++++++++ pavement ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: parquet courts
+estala Pere Ubu … Televsion … NoMeansNo (early)
yip velvet underground
