Parquet Courts - He's Seeing Paths Lyrics

He's got a MetroPCS and a bike and an alibi
Chinatown, downtown, to Crown Heights and Bed-Stuy
Green paths, grey paths, one way streets
Running through the grid trying to get to point B
Chinese food drivers taking wrong way rides
Driver side doors trying not to collide
Nothing in his mind but a five borough map
Left, right, north, south, east, west, he's seeing paths

He's seeing paths
He's seeing paths
He's seeing paths
He's seeing paths

His eyes going side to side, scanning for the haters
Suspicious doorman pointing at the elevator
Later, he's sitting in the park and thinking
Then he hits the ground running when the burner starts beeping
So [?] and the train [?]
First goes up, the second goes down
James on Broome went six for five
And Mike in Union Square got three
Jimmy on Sixty-Ninth got one
Pablo wasn't home, so he got none
Like the boys in the park making [?]
Like a rook through the board he's seeing paths

He's seeing paths
He's seeing paths
He's seeing paths
He's seeing paths

At the Wilson Ave checkpoint, he's got to trust his instincts
And slips into the hands of the 83rd Precinct
"Don't touch my bag," he pleads, "Mr. Officer
Nothing in there but clothes and fabric softener"
Yeah they're perched outside every corner store
Cause the powers that be choose to surveil the poor
Avoiding eye contact every time he goes past
[?] to the gut of the beast, he's seeing paths

He's seeing paths
He's seeing paths
He's seeing paths
He's seeing paths

    Lyrics:
He's got a MetroPCS and a bike and an alibi
Chinatown, downtown, to Crown Heights and Bed-Stuy

Green paths, grey paths, one way streets

Chinese food drivers taking wrong way rides
Driver side doors trying not to collide

Nothing in his mind but a five borough map
Left, right, north, south, east, west, he's seeing paths

So (?) and the train (?)

  2. y.... p....

for the record its' Parkay Quarts
and its' written in plain American

  3. H.... h....

You can hear the echos of this in Captive of the Sun, similar hip-hop delivery from Austin, kind of similar drum rhythm

  4. p.... ....

Someone should rap over this beat

    p.... ....

    They kind of already did

    p.... ....

swishahouse and lil keke did a remix of this track but it was never officially released - you can hear a bit of it at the start of the 'Parquet Courts (full concert) - Live @ Les Inrocks Philips' video on here

Even though they're a Bklyn punk band, I sometimes wonder if kids who are into the hip-hop thing might be able to get into this one. It would be a nifty experiment if someone played this in a hip-hop club to see if anyone in there would try to dance to it.

    a.... ....

I think austin loves hip hop especially, they did a collaboration with Bun B last year i think

  6. E.... ....

Definitely some Beck influence going on here, and it also kind of reminds me of Pepper by Butthole Surfers a little.

    E.... ....

I know Austin Brown, one of the guitarists, loves the Butthole Surfers. So the influence is probable.

  7. M.... T....

you should format the title to be Parquet Courts - He's Seeing Paths

  8. W.... H....

    still GREAT SONG

  9. W.... H....

Beercan by Beck + Yoo Doo Right by Can

  10. A.... S....

    See Title!!! Shhhh!!!

  11. M.... R....

he raps like that "we like sports" song

  12. M.... C....

i hear elements of beck's "beercan" in this song. not saying they are borrowing from it or paying homage or any of that, but the bass line, the guitar 'lead' around 2:44, and the samples and can-like percussion sound that sounds throughout the track, they are all very reminiscent of beck's "beercan"
