Parliament - Placebo Syndrome Lyrics

Ah rum pum pum do waa
There's so much syndrome, baby (there's so much syndrome, baby)

When all the smiles are out of town
You're going round and round
You find the Syndrome

When your ups lift you down
Your placebo is too weak
You're in the Syndrome

You're in the Syndrome
And the intensity of their sadness
Is equal to the intensity they enjoy

There's so much Syndrome, baby

When all the thing is out of sound
There's no coming round
Play with the Syndrome

What used to be such fun to do
Can often lead you weak
Into the Syndrome

Livin' at the top of the Syndrome
Placebo Syndrome
[x12]

There's so much Syndrome, baby (there's so much Syndrome, baby)

When all the smiles are out of town
You're falling round and round
You find the Syndrome
When your ups lift you down
Your placebo is too weak
You're in the Syndrome
[x2]

So good, Syndrome, livin' in the Syndrome
Syndrome, baby!

Livin' at the top of the Syndrome
Placebo Syndrome
[x7]

  70. J.... G....

This song reminds me of my freshman year of college. I was a psychology major and I happened to say in class that someone was in the syndrome. My Professor said "What syndrome?" I said the placebo syndrome and that sparked a huge discussion on P-funk(Whom he and the other white kids in my class had never heard of) and their use of psychological terms. My Professor wanted to know all about this group, so I bought him the album. It blew him away, he couldn't believe this was rock band, let alone a BLACK rock band! The cool thing is, he got all of the references and he knew what George was trying to say. I became his star pupil after that.

    J.... G....

  74. E.... E....

Love this album so much, can't even put it into words.Got the 8 track tape when I was 13 years old and played it every morning as I got ready for school, now I've got the L.P. and CD  and it never gets old. Can't get enough of Motor Booty Affair either, both are masterpieces.

    E.... E....

Evil Ed. I did the same. Had a partner who was on Bootys Collins groove which put me on the good doctor. This and Funkentelechy....🎹🎺🎼🎵🎤

  75. C.... O....

Every track on this one. Blazing!

  76. c.... e....

    c.... e....

chris Edwards moog synthesizer Bernie play

    c.... e....

Absolutely Ole Mr Bernie was Parliaments Sound Technician.Magnificent Talent He was.

  77. c.... e....

Junie did not play on any of the sessions on this album he joined on one nation and motor booty affair billy bass played bass on this track

    c.... e....

Right! Billy also wrote the instrumental track for this song.

    c.... e....

chris edwards thanks for clearing that up for me. I thought it was Cordell boogie Moncune

  78. A.... X....

Been so long since i've lived in the placebo syndrome, feels good to be free, i feel bad for those who are stuck in the placebo syndrome missin the P-Funk!!

  79. D.... L....

This song is a Junie Morrison/Parliament collaboration.  Junie's got that strange approach to the funk, different from Bernie's.  Put the 2 of them together and you've got a whole nutha thang.  Junie was the driving power behind the Ohio Players "Funky Worm" sound.  His ballads always have a strange unique feel to them.  I met him and he's a consummate keyboardist.  He made a great move when he left the Players and joined George Clinton for One Nation Under a Groove and this album.  Psychotic Funk.

    D.... L....

@Don Lackritz this is Bernie worrell Junie wasn't a full member til 78 the first album Junie did with p funk was one nation both George and Junie confirmed it

    D.... L....

    chris edwards. yep

    D.... L....

    lloyd johnson. you are correct

    D.... L....

    @chris edwards your right

    D.... L....

What made this song move was Glenn Goins vocals & Parliament's original bassist Billy 'Bass' Nelson, who wrote the music track & recorded the bass on it. Bootsy & Boogie were awesome bassists with them but Billy was a force of nature. Bernie Worrell's synth lines were fantastic as well. My favorite Parliament joynt.

  80. p.... w....

P funk at its best !!!!!

  81. P.... W....

    This jam is CRUCIAL.

    P.... W....

    lol this is true

  82. a.... ....

the vocal melodies on this harmonize so well with the horn sections..definitely a favorite track of mine.

  83. M.... K....

This song was overlooked on this album because of Flash Light. A awesome song with good music.

    M.... K....

I slept on that shit. I will admit it now. I am caught the fuck up now, though.

    M.... K....

It's the weakest track on an album that is perfect from start to finish, one of the best albums of all time - tied with What's Going On, Hounds Of Love and Choose Your Weapon

    M.... K....

@Terry Miller wow! You mean you had the album and didnt play this one? This was actually the song that trully comforted you when you had a bad day or was pissed off about some situation and you was all alone in your room (especially as a kid like i was) with the record player and a stack of albums.

    M.... K....

This song wasnt overlooked it just wasnt meant to be a hit just part of a concept album..remember P Funk albums only yeilded one major hit followed by a minor hit....the excepsion was Mothership connection that album had multple hits which is why that was their top album.

    M.... K....

    @JEROMEO SILLS on point

  84. C.... D....

this track always gives me goosebumps, that fantastic synth line! :)

    C.... D....

    i love placebo!!!!

    C.... D....

    It gives me goosebumps too.

  85. A.... H....

Agreed. Every song on this album is a jam.

    A.... H....

that's right every song just like purple rain.

  86. D.... H....

when all the smiles are out of town ur rolling round & round ur in the syndrome, when ur ups & when ur down ur placebo is to weak ur in the syndrome..WHAT USE TO BE SUCH FUN TO DO CAN OFTEN LEAD U DEEP INTO THE SYNDROME......
WAKE UP SHEEPLE UR LOST IN THE PLACEBO SYNDROME

    D.... H....

    +Jukebox Jonnie
could be bro..now that uv said that it sounds like it but only George knows..right..lol

    D.... H....

    @Derek Herring
Hey Bro, I'm sure George is a multidimensional being so it could be both at the same time :D

    D.... H....

    +Jukebox Jonnie
