I love the album host Paradise Lost, is one of the favorite albums

I don't care what people say. Host is an excellent album. One of the very few bands (along with Opeth) can go against the grain and stray away from their metal side and come up with something great. Too many bands try to change the sound and just don't sound good, In Flames being one of them, they have good songs on some later stuff but just became dull and boring (happened to LC too but they still come out with some fire songs).

A majority of PL's fanbase started out when they were death metal so their gothic rock/sythpop era wasn't too popular. There is such a contrast between both music styles. I'm not really a fan of their heavier stuff, with exception of the songs frailty and solitary one. I liked this era much much better. I cringe when people compare them to depeche mode. I find depeche mode so whiny.

This is simply a great piece of music. As is Gothic, Shades of God or Icon for that matter.

I am a big time Paradise Lost fan since Icon came out. Love (almost) everything they put out before and after. Host is a true gem that has never received the praise it deserved for being such a strong album in terms of compositions. Having said that, it sits well with me that this is the exception in their discography. So go out and listen to Medusa, it totally rocks.

Respect. This is also a good album from Paradise Lost. I happen to like Depeche Mode (the band that we can easily find a match to the album "Host". After this, they have released a much weaker work, called "Believe in nothing" where I felt the band was a bit confused and in between something... Host is still in my shelves and considered by me one of the most auspicious works of the band's career.

Symbol of Life is their best! But in a serious way; all their albums are great (apart from [insert personal preference - for me it's their Century Media period]), just enjoy that all the albums have really nice variation between them. It'd be awful if they were life Iron Maiden and essentially releasing the same album every 2 or 3 years for 20+ years.

hah, it's not even the songwriting, but the production very much resembles "Ultra". As this video has a taste of "only when I loose myself". Really good album "host", though.

Depeche mode are so whiny. The singer sounds like a 15 year old emo boy. Nick Holmes is a poetical and musical genius. His voice is deep and soothing.

I love this song...the whole album is brilliant, I'm not into death metal or even most metal anyway but when they took the more industrial electronic approach they gained a new fan in me, as i love electro bands, depeche mode, hurts, shy child, trans am etc...

To ELECTRO-LAGUNE: Why don't you just listen to what you really like, and live Paradise Lost and Nick Alone???
They always were a doom metal band, then they emerged into the gothic metallica sound, then they release Host (that for me is a great album and i loved it a lot when i heared it back in 99), they they got into gothic again and today they are into gothic doom again or something close.
Nick founded this band with Mackintosh, they always worked together on writting music and as perfect as it could be. some of the albums are better that the others, but they still are Paradise Lost and one of my favorite Bands ever, since 92. I agree that Nick sould do a solo album if he wants. i Don't know it would sound more like Host or something close to the rock itself, But paradise lost without nick and mackintosh won't be the same. Cos they are like one working together. So, keep your Opinion for yourself and go listen to the stuff you like.
It was because they released Host that they had some troubles on getting new contract again and tooke some while till they find themselves again!

One of the best albums of one of my favourite bands! PL Rules! All their albums are just perfect!

Who knows, they may yet do this style again, just like they returned to their Metal sound recently.

I like all paradise lost album from their first album lost paradise to their latest production Tragic Idol.

You are aware that PL have been around for nearly 25 years now? Of course their style will change as time goes on...
