Guessing I'll be back buying their records again, last time I purchased a PL album was draconian times, fell out of love with them after that.

i don't listen too doom as much as i use to but i found these guys the other week and i was pretty impressed with the vocals and the music. kinda like an aggressive rob zombie singing on forest of equilibrium.

As a boombox collector, I listen to a lot of music. This riff is bad ass!

Album Medusa is masterpice! PL forever!

It took a LOOONG time but this band is finally what it was always meant to be in my opinion. I discovered them only this year (yeah I know, newbie with an opinion blah blah) through the "Beneath Broken Earth" official video which hits like 100,000,000 tons of lead! So I looked into The Plague Within, liked a couple others from it, downloaded it and after a couple plays, determined it to be just a monster of an album. So, I started to go back. Discovered these dudes nearly started the genre and had like a dozen albums under their belts. Wow, not a single one close to the level of heavy Plague Within offered me. :( Then I found this latest Medusa album. That mega ton of lead is back on top of me where it belongs. Here's hoping they have reached their pinnacle sound because THIS is the sound of anguished perfection!

I wouldn't discount Lost Paradise and Gothic so readily. Plague Within and Medusa are very much a return to the thunder of those records but with better production and FAR more experience in terms of songwriting. I don't think it's especially fair to dismiss those just because the band's 14th and 15th albums are more polished death-doom than their 1st and 2nd, especially when the legacy of songs like Frozen Illusion and Eternal precede themselves. And really, their progression as a band is quite the rollercoaster of styles, they've covered A LOT of ground as a band and generally refused to stagnate this far into their career. I'm not saying don't put their last two on a pedestal - by all means, I'm quite the Plague Within fan myself - but I do think being open to expectations being blown to bits is a bit of a requirement to enjoy PL in the long term because that's just what they do. It's all gravy but some of it takes a little warming up to, is all.

Also, "Faith unites us..." album was their first with 7 string guitars, and much of that has some seriously heavy tones stuff on it. But yeah, the Gothic album is a dirty, dark, filthy sounding masterpiece too

perfect song,combination of doom,heavy,goth-dark... i love melvins,electric wizard,black sabbath and also the bauhaus, joy division, the sisters of mercy, jesus and mary chain,it is a cominaton of those bands... lol
