Unbelievable, but I discovered these guys for myself in 2018!!!

Paradise lost has covered all ground in Doom Metal!!!so influential.....I even had to just start another band that's main influence is in the vein of this band meets C.O.C....If that makes sense...That band is called Paradox Black (even the name sounds almost similar,hopefully no one sees this, lol) I plan to release the 1st album soon and its dedicated to this band more than anyone else. I am the Guitarist and Vocalist of Kaos Reign (thrash extreme metal influenced main band), Skumbagh, Murder Castle and others. I play all genres of Metal. I recommend every album by Paradise Lost, even Host. My favorite is Draconian Times though for sure. This is pure artistic Misery at it's finest and I do not care if anyone disagrees!!! (sorry for the promotion I couldn't help it) This will never get old to me.

After years of listening to PL i can say that Tragic Idol is definitely their best album ever. Perfect combination of fucking great heaviness & melody like in Crucify, In this We Dwell or Theories From (this one cushes literally everything) with very nice gothic soft melodies (but still heavy) like title track, solitary one or Fear of Impending. Was quite a hard choice with Draconian Times, but Tragic Idol is just the best. Draconian Times may be magic, beautiful and atmospheric, but as a whole it's still an album of young guys, Holmes voice is great but still quite "punky" and it's still just a "start-genre" album that needs development. And Tragic Idol is just mature, pure, heavy, great. It's a little monochromatic, but who cares \m/

paradise lost is a great band that's very underrated,most of thier albums sound great! even those that have a different style. Draconian times is one of the best.

Jerry Miller I agree! I feel bad that the only albums I enjoy start from Draconian Times. I just can't get into the earlier stuff...it sounds so much like most music of that era to me. But from DT onwards PL have been one of the most consistent bands ever! My three favourite albums are Host, Faith Divides Us and the self titled. Faith Divides Us may even be my all time favourite metal album.

Give Icon a go. It's a masterpiece.

DT is just a more polished continuation of Icon.

Maybe it's because it does come straight from his heart, the lyrics of this tune seem very personal after all.
Anyway, Nick rarely sings without emotion, if ever.

I was at some number of Paradise lost concerts and once he was way wasted and sounded terrible but the other 2 times he was actually awesome.
