There is no way those visuals are anything but for tripping out on. And have you heard Panda Bear's Marijuana Makes My Day? Sure, their music has deeper meaning, but that doesn't exclude them from having a very drug-influenced theme.

They could simply just be trying to create art. Not all musicians who create psychedelic music do drugs, and even if they have, it's not like they need to keep taking psychedelics to keep putting out new psychedelic music. Not to mention, there's many artists who don't even create music that's remotely psychedelic, and yet they use psychedelics from time to time. Psychedelia may be the sound of a genre, but if you've done any psychedelics, you know it's subjective & many things are psychedelic.

I've actually never heard anyone from AnCo state that the only drug they take anymore is explicitly marijuana. I do know that Panda Bear likes to smoke when he mixes, and his quote to Pitchfork (Post MPP, Pre Centipede Hz) was that they're all doing "less drugs than we used to."

Judging by Amanita's lyrics, I'm going to go out on a limb and say that AnCo still have a soft spot in their hearts for mushrooms.

he's made it quite clear that the only psychedelic he does now, is marijuana, and that's a super mild psychedelic. not to mention he only smokes it occasionally and is no longer a routine thing. they haven't done shrooms or LSD since the earlier days. i think they limited it to just weed even before Strawberry Jam. Something people need to realize, is that talent is an individual thing. it doesn't come from the drugs. also most musicians don't have much time for anything more than weed.

The music really does sound like an acid trip, though. The way sounds linger and breathe. It's a very close artistic approximation to the physical sensation of sound while "dosing."

it's not for people on drugs as much as for people who enjoy simple sensory stimulus over coherent plot structure or logical narrative (for a music video). these kind of videos, I find, are the best kind of thing to accompany psychedelic music.
