Su sexto álbum "Buoys" es otro viaje lisérgico que viaja por el dream pop y sonidos derivados del trap. En esta ocasión vuelve a trabajar en la producción y la mezcla con la colaboración de Rusty Santos, con quien no colaboraba desde “Person Pitch”, posiblemente su mejor disco hasta la fecha (es decir, desde hace once años). El sonido que han querido conseguir ha sido uno contemporáneo y moderno, aunque han dejado espacio a la experimentación, como se puede ver en el primer single, “Dolphin”. Además de Santos también colaboran en el disco la DJ y vocalista chilena Lizz y el músico portugués Dino D’Santiago, que aportan sonidos derivados de trap y reggaetón, o como ellos indican "reggaetón roto".
El disco se abre con toda una joya “Dolphin” mezcla polirítmica de sonidos, acústicos y electrónicos entrelazados. La influencia de las armonías vocales de Beach Boys siempre ha estado muy presente en el trabajo de Noah Lennox dentro y fuera de Animal Collective. Así “Crancked”, que junto a “Token”, además del tema de apertura, encierran una peculiar trilogía con los Beach Boys de fondo y un Panda Bear en tono confesional en lo lírico. El agua es el motor del disco y su hilo argumental. Hay canciones como "Dolphin" en las que habla de la “calma” del “mar” que topa con la violencia del “filo de un acantilado”. De todos modos las letras son algo abstractas, como la partitura. El disco lo ha escrito inspirado por una gira de "Sung Tongs" de Animal Collective, pero la paleta sonora aquí esta marcada por el uso de Auto-tune, que hace encajar a la perfección con esas guitarras con una afinación muy particular.

Firstly, I passionately loved "Buoys" but why was this song chosen as a single, it's one of the most disappointing panda bear songs with a very disappointing video as well, and hearing this when it first came out initially worried me about the album, but I was very pleasantly surprised with it thankfully, but "cranked" would have replaced this as a single perfectly.
P.S. I may just be a spoiled bitch that likes synthesizers and complex melodies/beats too much, but hey, fucc you, boi.

Yeah, apparently his daughter/family hates his music and he's mentioned that in interviews. He apparently talked to her about things she likes (like Rihanna) and she said un-affected vocals feel awkward, so he added auto-tune to try to make music young people are more comfortable listening to. Which to me... is sad. I can only imagine making a masterpiece like Person Pitch and people around me not liking it. LOL.

This modern shitty pop scene is really messing with a lot of artists as they try to fit in.
