Owens, Buck - Streets Of Bakersfield Lyrics
I came here lookin' for somethin'
I couldn't find anywhere else
Well, I don't want to be nobody,
Just want a chance to be myself.
Yes, I've worn blisters on my heels
Trying to find me something better
On the streets of Bakersfield.
[Chorus:]
You don't know me but you don't like me,
You say you care less how I feel
How many of you that sit and judge me
Ever walked the streets of Bakersfield?
Spent some time in San Francisco,
Spent a night there in the can
They threw this drunk man in my jail cell,
I took fifteen dollars from that man.
I left him my watch and my old house keys,
I don't like folks thinking that I'd steal
Then I thanked him as he was sleeping,
And I headed out for Bakersfield.
[Chorus:]
You don't know me but you don't like me,
You say you care less how I feel
How many of you that sit and judge me
Ever walked the streets of Bakersfield
How many of you that sit and judge me
Ever walked the streets of Bakersfield...

Owens, Buck Streets Of Bakersfield Comments
Real motherfucking country my boy!!! Makes me think of my great grandma all she played was buck!!! Long live the fucking king!! 👑
Don't puck with buck!
hee-haw Brought me here and this awesome song too.
Buck was a real showman; put on kick-ass live performances!
Great lyrics sung so you can actually understand what Buck is saying. What gives this song its unique appeal is that it is classic country with a touch of Norteno.
I've actually worn out a pair of boots walking the streets of Bakersfield. Oildale mostly.
Nice. I finally heard all of the words, and heard the correct words. Very cool. Thanks.
Who thought that Buck Owens complimented Roy Clark on "Hee-Haw"?
Wow what a complete great sound
So, this is back when it was ok to write a positive song from pt of view of a poor person? Is this sort of like Merle Haggard's Hobo Jungle song? Could we talk about a hitchhiker in a positive way today?
Love this song. The 80's one is what most people think of,Buck and Dwight did a great job on the 80's don't get me wrong but I love this one best.
Ive been watching the country documentary on PBS.
It looks as though greed destroyed all the creative energy in every music form.
No dwight = no good
THANK ,YOU. GOD. FOR. BUCK
i have loved buck my whole life i heard this song on my aunts jukebox in her restaurant in a little town in Oklahoma two red lights long just a wide spot in the road but man a quarter and i would dance and sing this song along with traveling band by ccr later in life i drove a semi went though the desert and a divorce singing my heart out to this song buck has been a life long companion to me and many others i dont know about you but the sun got a little dimmer when god took this man from the world the way i see it you gotta know where you been to know where you wanna go and buck was always that to me
I'm 58 years old and live in Illinois and I'm heading to Bakersfield tomorrow
*Walk the streets of Bakersfield...Spent some time in San Francisco too.*

Buck Owens. A great entertainer.
I live in Buckersfield....unfortunately lol
I love my home town
Here in Bako listening to this
Thank you! Wonderful. Will always miss Buck and Don.
You go Buck Owens your the man
Love Buck Owens and the Buckeroo's. Song was written by Homer Joy I believe. He sat in Buck's office for weeks trying to get him to listen to this song he'd just written. Finally Buck said let him in, just to get rid of him. Homer played the song and Buck said right there, I'm going to record it. The rest is history as they say.
This is my wake up and go to sleep song. Thanks Buck. You were the best
I miss Bakersfield.
Anyone who doesn't like this needs new ears
0:37 What moron had editorial duties the day *_this_* cover went to production? 'Streets of *_Bakerfield?'_*
In a lovely dose of irony, this compilation 'Country' album was probably made from beginning to end in a foreign country. Why not? Americans have been selling out America for years. : /
The Bakersfield sound. The only good thing about California!
RIP Don and Buck.
Damn. Never heard the orig. Damn good. Dwight's version is nice, but nice to hear the Man's version
Awesome, love the sound, thank you from NZ
I really did wear out a pair of boot walking the streets of Bakersfield .Oildale mainly.
Great song too Dwight's a good artist but he does some karaoke versions of bucks great hits 🤗
Hell Ya BUCK
Always loved Buck Owens but I admit I forgot about the song until The Baskets
How come its so clear?
I probably walked twenty steps in a Bakersfield streets, but when I here this song I wish that I had walked long enough to find and shake Owens's hand.
He's talking about finding drugs!!
si algun dia , canto country .será gracias a Buck Owens
this takes me right back to plano, texas, spending summers at my grandparent's place, watching the saturday night country music TV shows. we watched buck, porter...all of them, right down to the local musicians playing at panther hall in fort worth. good times.
The real deal.
Been to Bakersfield many many times...Love this song..
my first intro to this song was by mick flavin ,then I heard this great original version ,and needless to say I haven't listened to the other version since ,great music great artist,
The OG version before they tried to "mexicanize" it
love me bean boy pls
Definitely not angry about your comment. Just pointed out that if you're going to be enraged about the song then go blame your hero, Buck Owens, because he's heavily involved in bursting your bubble.
"i-i'm not angry!! yo-you are!!!" right dude, but the condescending tone of the last comment proves what im talking about. all because i said this was the original version of the song. lmao now Buck is my hero and im on meds? c'mon bubba
Chief Wompwomp - "The OG version before they tried to "mexicanize" it". I suppose that line from your original posting is a line of love then? Best get back in touch with reality & say what you mean & mean what you say.
Case closed. You try to lie in the face of truth. How stupid is that?
Was fortunate to hear Buck sing this song when I visited Crystal palace. We miss you Buck. RIP
I like the original by Buck Owens, Dwight Yoakam did it with a modern flare that it sounds really great still today wow, I know buck most of been very proud to recorded this song with Dwight, thank you Buck and Dwight
I really love it, Dwight did this song so beautifully, and in the video I can see the hapiness between Buck and Dwight, it is very special, I love my Dwight Yoakam,,, he's is my man,
I wonder if the drunk man in the jail cell ever found which house that key beloned to? lol
TheFarmerfitz the song wasn’t written by buck dude it’s just a lyric
This is better without that little gay dude.
This song reminds me of being homeless and drifting in my 20's. "You don't know me but you don't like me..." A few years before I had been carrying a gun in a war for my country, but once my hair got long and my clothes weren't army green anymore I was just a bum that nobody wanted around. Didn't spend much time there, but I HAVE walked the streets of Bakersfield. 'Merica looks a lot different when you're down and out.
Vietnam?
Don Rich's back up is so recognizable
Songs way to short guess I'll have to listen to it again... and again...
I love dwight. But this is the best version to me
many do not know that Buddy did not write this tune.
Baskets lol
Terrific, buck. Also with dwight. You are great!
I was born in Lodi and grew up in Modesto California back in the 70's its about close to Bakersfield in spirit. I grew up on this music. Its funny how many people don't know about California and the central valley and our country side and they think we all ride surfboards to our tech jobs in SF everyday
abner 163 i
HA HA HA i can only say yyyeeeesss to buck owens and nnnnnooooo to Dwight
Love ole Buck but thank God I don't live in California!
Troy Dennis I live in California
This is the right "feel" that's lacking in the Dwight version. The subtle swing in the rhythm.
We drove by the Buck Owens building on Buck Owens BLVD here in Bakersfield just yesterday!
Badass song
That's right I was born n raised in BAKERSFIELD at KMC FOR EVER MY HOME TOWN N NOW LIVE IN OKLAHOMA
Good song - true to life - Thief's honor, and all of that! Thanks for this treat!
Original and authentic.
I do not believe this is the original record
Ol Buck sure did have it figgerd out. God bless ya Buck!!
Outstanding
Anyone else think the beginning sounds like mexican music
Lol the title was pretty funny. Love em both of course but still funny.
So, I guess he's saying, if the asshole commies of S.F and L.A. would actually stop and spend a little time and converse with american people ....they might drop some of their pre-concieved notions about people who don't live in their liberal areas.
Amazing song. You have to be dead from the neck up not to like this one.
........the streets of bikersfield.
I live 45 minutes north of Bakersfield. It is freaking hell out there. I mean the only things I enjoy looking at are the oil pumps .
Has he really been gone ten years? A true American legend. RIP Buck.
Never liked Dwight.
I bought my first record in 1967. Buck Owen and the Bucks roos, I've Got a Tiger By the Tail. A brilliant artist.
I like Homer Joy's original 1972 version of his song also recorded for Capitol Records a year before Buck's version. Love the one Buck & Dwight redid as well.
Dad just passed. .raised in Shafter - died in a nursing home. I called my Mom to let her know he'd passed....
I just love Buck Owens... and I am from London...
Love Don Rich's pick'n
YEAH, THUMBS UP LIKE Jack T said. I sat on Pa Pa's lap as he rolled Prince Albert cigarettes... You can take me outta Texas but you can't take Texas outta me
I ncreíble vos
When I was a stupid kid , I made fun of Buck Owens on Hee - Haw . Now I realize how great he really was .
THIS!! Merle Haggard's impression of Buck's "Love's Gonna Live Here" made me look up all of his old songs; new found respect for this icon of the Bakersfield sound. oxoxo one-of-a-kind voice, too. Guileless and cheerful even when singing a sad song; so innocent.
Oildale all up in here y'all. Ye hawwww. Drain that swamp!!!! POTUS
If Buck were still alive he'd kick that sun burnt swindlers ass the length of Buck Owens Boulevard.
cold Winter's
The real deal. Thanks Buck for all the music I so very much under-appreciated until recently. EdADrummer<><
ooooh yeah...gotta love that Bakersfield sound. Been there ,done that. oh ,and I lived there too.
