Overkill - The Years Of Decay Lyrics
Out on this road takes its toll
And you pay for everything you do
Underlights, made me blind
This place is the same as last night
Out of control takes its toll
Speaking your mind to those you find
Listening to what you have to say
I wouldn't change the way
I wouldn't stop the decay
Promised the world, as your world
Changed before your eyes
And the days became the weeks
And the weeks the years
And no one remembers that very first day
Forever I wait, pulling in, pulling out
As the motors whine
To remind me I'm home
And I'm here to stay
As we decay
Another day
Decay away
I'm goin' home, I don't know where
I'm goin' home, not far from here
Out on this road, paint this toll
Make me whole, set the stage
Fill it with anger, fill it with rage
No I don't know what's today
I know it falls in the years of decay
Self, sacrifice, everynight
And together we paid a price in blood
That spilled out through the years
And another day passes away
Look to the black, drawn farther back
Look to each day, see the decay
Times I've had, good and bad
Win or lose, this is what I choose...

Overkill The Years Of Decay Comments
My fave overkill song
Sounds like songs from fear of the dark album, love it.
I think I stole this one from Sam Goody.
Good d&d dungeon
so true ballad, like "love me forever" of motorhead
I do sorta wish they had not had the Vocals quite as loud. Just slightly lower than where they are wouldve been better imo.
When I think about Overkill this is number one . And then I love all else they did. My first metal act live 1988. I thought I could kareoke this but no fn way, not even close
sakarya caddesi, always rock bar. orda çaldı.
This one and Rust in Peace, from Megadeth, are the best albums of all time, in my opinion.
Great album happy 30th..
6:26 sounds like Metal storm/Face the slayer opening riff
God I love over kill
I love you
That's a great thrash ballad that actually has some mighty riffs as it builds up and in that outro. That album should've sold more than the Black Album if we're thinking of a late 80's tech-trash (too bad Bobby left after the tour for this album, he was getting really great on here and on Under The Influence LP before that) that has some of the semi-ballads that thrash bands were known to sometimes have one of those on an album here and there without forgetting they're a thrash band...
Drink up. Smoke up..Mo fo's.
Yeah ,nothings ever over
this is the album that made their fan!! I still blast this shit!! You cant listen to this with me then fuck off
Still here 20 years later 😏👍
One of first songs I heard in the 80s, one of the last songs I will ever hear in this mortal ,crappy life.
This was the first Overkill song that I ever heard. It's so beautifully composed - the music flows really well - and Bobby's voice is fucking amazing. I listened to it on repeat for quite a long time. Probably my favourite Overkill song
Say goodbye to the world for me , my friend.
@Dee
With pleasure (:

2019 is in the years of decay!!!
You're not worthy of this song
Evil never dies
There is no stage

Blatant Phil Collins “In the Air Tonight” drum rip-off at 3:00.
NO ONE CAN COPYRIGHT A RIFF // OR DRUM BEAT// BASS LINE// ONLY LYRICS CAN BE A LEGAL ISSUE// NO MATTER WHO IS PLAYING// YOU WILL HEAR SOMETHING THAT REMINDS YOU OF A SONG FROM SOMEONE ELSE!!!
Louis Csanko - Actually, Alice Cooper sued KISS over this issue, claiming KISS’ “Dreamin’” was too close in sound to that of “Eighteen.” However, they settled out of court.
That being said, in this case I totally agree with you - this drum fill is WAY too common for anyone to lay claim to it. But - you have to agree - Phil made this drum fill iconic, to the point where people always associate it to “In the Air Tonight.” Hell, didn’t Mike Tyson air drum it in one of the Hangover movies?
@Aaron Perretta YES THAT WAS FUNNY. \,,,/
@Aaron Perretta I WANT PHIL COLLINS TO PLAY DRUMS IN A METAL BAND \,,,/
If I’m interpreting the lyrics correctly, this song is about Overkill’s biggest fear; growing old and no longer being able to perform.
OVERKILL WILL BE PLAYING FOR ANOTHER 20 YEARS!!!! FUCK/ IF THE STONES CAN DO IT// I LOVE OLD CLASSIC STONES// I KNOW BOBBY AND CREW CAN TOO!!!
Such an underrated band and song
So underrated it should be a criminal
fuck it UP
Any other Kid that listens to it or am I alone?? My second favorite song ever
SONG KICKS ASS \,,,/
Aaaahh... The good old days when music was made with real instruments, mindset and the will to deliver words and feeling that matters... I'm proud to be a metalhead that I am (the youth of today don't even know what that is...) and I am never gonna change my way of music. I'm so fucking happy that I was born at the right time and that music like this became a part of me. Never to old to headbang...!!
Agreed bro...horns up🤘🤘
Greets from another proud Metalhead 🤘🍻
HORNS UP BRO // OVERKILL RULE// I AM 52 AND STARTED METAL AT 12***
This song brings me to tears to this day. Times I've had, good & bad- Win or lose, this is what I choose🤘 The end gives me chills, POWERFUL SONG🖤🖤🖤
Listen to the song (PROMISES) THAT IS A TEAR JERKER!!!! SUCH A GREAT SONG** IT IS ON THE UNDERGROUND AND BELLOW \,,,/
I don't like it this sound at all.
By far away my favorites, actually this album is out of my favorites, feel the fire is much much much better, feel the fire is my favorite actually!
Overkill true thrash metal
I haven't heard all of their albums but this one is by far my favorite of the ones that I do have, been listening since early 90s
artwork
One of my favorite metal ballads, totally special
Just hearing this band at my knowledge for the first time I'm 36 and may I say damn well done those drums !
Simply one of the best albums of its era.
Bobby Blitz rip.
I haven't listened to this album in years. It is awesome.
I agree this band is the soul of metal in it's prime. and there still kickn ass!
Just don't listen to the song listen carefully to the lyrics and hear what they mean by the years of decay.
saw them in 1986 if I remember, it was Slayer, Motorhead, and Overkill at a dance club in Houston, called NRGS. Overkill were throwing rubber bats into the crowd. Wuz there for Slayer and had no patience for this band, but after, I understood them better. Slayer will do that to you. They tried hard and now after many years I get it.
Anyone who claims to be a metal head and doesn’t know overkill is fucked. In the head.
Suicídio
maybe just one of the top ten metal albums ever!
This was always my favorite overkill song, the last solo is awesome!!!
easy listening hmmm..metal lovers
One amazing band that has delivered quality metal their entire career.
Out on this road takes its toll
And you pay for everything you do
Underlights, made me blind
This place is the same as last night
Out of control takes its toll
But you learn to live with your dreams
Speaking your mind to those you find
Listening to what you have to say
I wouldn't change the way
I wouldn't stop the decay
Promised the world, as your world
Changed before your eyes
And the days became the weeks
And the weeks, the years
And noone remembers that very first day
Or how it slipped away
Forever I wait, pulling in, pulling out
As the motors whine
To remind me I'm home
And I'm here to stay
As we decay
Another day
Decay away
I'm goin' home, I don't know where
I'm goin' home, not far from here
Out on this road, paint this toll
Make me whole, set the stage
Fill it with anger, fill it with rage
No I don't know what's today
I know it falls in the years of decay
Self, sacrifice, everynight
And together we paid a price in blood
That spilled out through the years
And another day passes away
Look to the black, drawn farther back
Look to each day, see the decay
Times I've had, good and bad
Win or lose, this is what I choose

Still Loving You?

This album got me through my 4 month stint as a crane operator on a freezer barge in Acutan, AK, during the Summer of 1990. I fuck you not, me and my fellow crew thrashed to this epic album on an hourly basis, on the clock or not. And I revere it to this day. Modern metal just cant hang.
I first heard it live.. I recorded while this was aired on a local station when I was a teenager on a tape... And for years I thought that song was an Iron Maiden's song... I was mistaken
