The image they had in their early days has fuck all to do with their musical style.

Their music isn’t Emo either, their style to me is a weird mixture of metal, hard rock, prog metal and puck rock (check out Finn McKenty’s video on how they got big for more detail)
As for the logo... yeah they stole that from overkill but overkill stole their name from a Motörhead album, and Lemmy stole that name from a slang term for speedfreak so does it really matter?

​@Arka \m/ You predicated overkill "having nothing to do with the evolution of thrash" on whether or not slayer or metallica were influenced by them, and then had a comment on East coast thrash that should have been done FIRST, and then narrowed it down to the resemblance to overkill's sound which alone does not discredit their influence to the scene. Also, that slayer riff comparison isn't very convincing, and asserting such is baseless. Even if, riffs sounding somewhat similar to others is not a bad thing and you're trying too hard.

OVERhyped lol, more textbook Macho McPoserkiller mantra, and you still missed out on the pun. Saying it's overhyped is completely meaningless, and would only make sense if you compared the sales of the record to the reviews of people who ACTUALLY WERE or ARE *hyped* about their music.

And thrash is generally pretty cheesy, with religious purists and some government figures being the only ones taking any of the violent/vulgar, over-the-top lyrics as a threat. It was always about defiance, saying what you want, and not giving a shit. Perhaps you need to clarify what you find cheesy instead of lumping this opinion in with the rest of the conversation.

@Casey Renzi They are ridiculously overhyped between thrash fans even when their music is beyond bland and hardly qualify as thrash(more like power metal on steroids) and that has nothing to do with rec sales. And their is nothing to predicate about whether metallica or slayer were influenced by them lol, if its Overkill that rips off a Slayer riff its pretty obvious that none of them are influenced by them and is prevelant in their sound as well which both of them have distinctively defined and none other than a crack smoking goblin would even imagine fukin Overkill to have an influence to their sound which they actually borrowed from Nwobhm bands and Venom lol and are actually the bands that are responsible for its evolution worldwide which is prevelant in almost all 2nd wave thrash and early teutonic thrash.You said that they were key to the development of the east coast thrash scene but at the same time reciprocated with the fact of other bands from that area not sounding like them who they were actually influenced by west coast pioneers so how tf are they at all influential to "THRASH" as a genre when again the music they play hardly qualifies to be called thrash to solidify their irrelevance of impact even more. And I am not refering to their lyrics while describing their cheesiness, its the god awful power metal vocals combined with the butt rockish powerless horrible riffs that makes them cheesy.

An example of something overhyped would be No Man's Sky, a video game that had a massive backing and did not fulfill what the backers looked forward to, thusly and rightfully being stamped out for being scheming liars. Overkill for instance, and something you should know, did not originally call themselves a thrash band, and rarely referred to themselves as such until the 2000's. Thrash is the name they were given by those who listened and compared, which was about the only method of knowing what genre metal was in an era where much of it was still obscure to record labels, media, and the public. There isn't an "overhype" to be had about their brand of thrash if that wasn't even their intention to sound like thrash. I didn't even need to bother giving an example, but since you drone on about "overhype" like some can crushing, denim patch-laden elitist, I thought I'd open up class.

In your easily avoidable run-on sentence you also said that it sounds like "power metal vocals", which the most drawn out notes Blitz emits are from the "Taking Over" album and a few tracks from others. You mention NWOBHM influence but for some reason you go straight to comparing his voice to power metal instead of the obvious which is Bruce Dickinson, something people mention regularly and it's not hard to see why. What really gets me is you also say "crack smoking goblin" (is that bad? sounds pretty evil to me) and expect me to somehow also believe it's also a power metal voice. Disambiguation, please. Define what you're talking about before you say shit, it makes no sense.

Here's a tidbit for you; Rotten To The Core was not a steal from Slayer, and simple research of when the song was actually written confirms this (1982). I'm not even going to continue with the "muh rip-off riffs" because it seems you're more driven to insist that it is not through analysis, but just baseless mudslinging that can be endlessly applied to other bands that "stole dem riffz" because "I just know it and it sounds similar XDD". What I will address is this:

There is absolutely nothing wrong with that in any way, and I don't know why you mentioned that. Where is the point?

Finally, I don't know how you go by thinking sound is somehow the basis of contribution to the scene and not the idea that the introduction and popularization of a cultural wave in a new area is what started it. NYC was the punk hotspot of the time, a genre that still overshadowed thrash in the early 80's. The exposure of Overkill and their own discovery of faster, thrashier metal through borrowing and experimentation wouldn't have gone anywhere hadn't anyone showed up. Given the fact that Overkill already was a traveling, recruiting punk band before the onset of the 80's, it's easy to say an already established band like themselves would have been a new sound and an inspiration to compete with (and yes, competition alone is a factor) in such a closed environment, which is why you'd find Dan Spitz as their guitarist that moved on to Anthrax after seeing the change unfold.

@Casey Renzi U seem to be confused with the definition of overhyped. Its pretty fukin obvious that the hype will be surrounded among the "fans" itself and not among non fans. The brand of thrash they play is 1.generic and predictable as sun rises 2. Cheesy and boring beyond death songwriting which is as basic as it gets 3. Absolutely 0 contribution to bring anything new or groundbreaking which is what matters and not the retarded competition logic by a butthurt Overkill crybaby which is confined to one city when real quality thrash had already been a thing for a long time worldwide. Yet they act like a super generic band like Overkill is more relevant than any other old school thrash band and put them in god status which is basically a disgrace for any thrash fan in the world. These are the factors that make Overkill overrated when they should in fact be an irrelevant 3rd tier band. And about the not rip off riff, I would like to see evidence where it says "rotten to the core" was written before "die by the sword" which backs up the fact of non plagarism as insisted by you..., Hammerhead is another one which is basically their version of Metallica's whiplash, they were essentially a Metallica\Slayer\Maiden worship band who should lick their balls and bow down to their altar. And the NWOBHM influence was in reference to Metallica and Slayer's sound and not Overkill, I dont know where you came up with that retarded relation, seems like you have trouble reading comprehension. Also speaking of Bruce dickinson, Iron maiden plays traditional melodic NWOBHM where Bruce's voice seems to complement the sound of Maiden's music and adds more power to it rather than abominating it with which is in the case of Bobby Blitz awful voice where it does not only sound cheesy but destroy's anything that serves as a quality for thrash metal(if he wants to sound like a deranged power metal monkey then they should refer to themselves as such instead of calling it just thrash which is hardly prevelant in their shitty music as well). All these lead to the bottom line "An awfully shitty generic band who should have never made out of playing clubs, instead are worshipped by thrashers round the world even when it doesnt qualify as thrash and doesnt deserve a fourth of the recognition they get worldwide and in the thrash metal community by who like their thrash real and quality with balls and non generic".
