Overkill - Birth Of Tension Lyrics

You're killing me, your mouth is movin'
But I cannot hear you speak
Life's a tragedy. go on livin'
In a world not for the weak
Keep your dreams inside your heart
Never let the pressure tear you apart
Truth is whispered on a breath
Loud enough to cover the smell of death

Never thought too important to mention
Livin' through the birth, the birth of tension
Never thought too important to mention
Livin' with the tension, tension, tension

Don't you understand too much tension, snap
Where you lose your grip
Too many demands start at birth, snap
From the bomb you're ripped
Leave your dreams inside, behind
Never had a reason that you'll never find
Tension builds another way
Gonna make you all go away

Too much tension, all around
Too much tension, bring you down
All the pressures in the narrow mind
All the reasons you'll never find
Did you kill your father, sleep with your mother
Idolize your sister, jealous your brother
Did ya kick the dog, were you beat a strap
Were you really be abused, were you fakin'
All that too tense

You're killin' me so many ways
So little time to think
Life's catastrophe, my glass empty
And I really need a drink
Movin' all so very quick
Movin' so fast that it makes me sick
Let me outta here
Livin' ain't livin' with the tension and the fear

Is this the best song on the album? I sure got that speed and great guitar, vocals. This is mind numbing, seductively pulverizing. I made a new discovery in 2017 called thrash. I am like a kid in a candy score.

Hardwired (Metallica) has this riff or two. Nice robbery.

You have no fucking clue what your saying your a fucking invalid if you think metallica could ever match overkill

@Kenju Hitryule If you think an album whose primary success points are 2 songs which are a pathetic attempt at imitating and ripping off their idols(namely Metallica) puts anything Metallica has done to complete shame, you should pretty comfortably stop listening to metal in the first place lmao. A good example of imitation would have been Testament, whose 1st 2 albums snort in and spit out this album to pieces

@derekobs Uhm... I'm not sure about thast last part of your comment, man. I rank this album right up there with the first two Testament records, which are great but flawed, just as this one is, IMO.
I do agree that the Metallica\Maiden worshipping is pretty damn evident throughout Overkill's first five albums, though. Just as the Pantera influence was crystal clear from W.F.O. (1994) until Bloodletting (2001). Still, for 2001 I consider Bloodletting a great groove-thrash record, with a few minor missteps, but definitely solid.
Horrorscope is still untouchable for me, as Merritt Gant and Rob Cannavino were miles ahead of Hetfield and Hammett by that time (if we consider pure thrashing and shredding chops), and definitely had their very distinct playing and songwriting style.
All in all, Overkill is a great thrash band with a few ups and quite a few downs throughout their career, but their ups are pretty damn awesome, I would say. The Sid Falck era is really solid (Horrorscope is their best record to my ears), and even W.F.O. was a great, fun thrash record for 1994 (though it sounds like shit even by 1994 standards).
As for riff thieves... they're everywhere, can't help that I'm afraid...

God, I love this album. It's like someone took Slayer's "Hell Awaits" and Exodus's "Fabulous Disaster," mixed them to together, and put Udo on vocals. This is Horroscope minus the tiny groove influence that led to their backup vocals and a good chunk of the title track.

    I.... ....

    spot on.
