I was 7 when I actually heard this song, my mum and brother was playing Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock. I really liked the song, finally found it 8 years later.

It's actually a cover. The original is from a band called sound the alarm... no guitar riffs but more vocal harmony. I'm not knocking this at all, I love it. But this made it big off of someone else's work minus a tad bit of pop metal doctoring. I just like to give credit where due.

My husband brought up a wonderful point. While listening to the original of this song. Suffocated is past tense. The official lyrics if anyone bothered looking is does indeed say 'why am I still SUFFOCATING', it would not be suffocated. 

Also the original song is titled Suffocating. 

All you complaining to the person who uploaded this video, she is correct with the lyrics.

The original doesn't say Suffocated. The original song was Suffocating by Sound the Alarm. The lyrics are suffocating and Orianthi cannot change it to suffocated. I'm not sure what you aren't grasping.

You could easily look up the original and it will prove my point. Then again I also know the band, they are local and my mother taught several of them in first grade. I can even tell you how they got discovered - Pen Argyl Battle of the Bands in 2003/2004. Good show. They had another great song Symphony in Red that sadly didn't make it onto their first official CD. Actually lots of their first songs didn't make it other then Count on Me (which was titled Dearly Departed) and this song Suffocating made it on with their other new stuff.

Great band and I spoke with one of them about Orianthis cover which they stated the lyrics needed to remain the same or she breached the contract and could be sued.

@Scott Ferguson Gotcha. Yeah. Im not sure why the other guy is insistent I am wrong. Its not that hard either to get ahold of some of the band Sound the Alarm. I think Reychew or whoever just wanted to argue. I dont think I could make it any clearer that I knew the original band.

STA is still the better version then again I'm biased because I saw them where the got discovered (Pen Argyl Battle of the Bands 2003). I even remember when this song had a different title :)

@reychew those aren't the lyrics and she wasn't allowed the change the lyrics, spoke to the original bands lead singer. Suffocated is past tense and makes zero sense in it. Plus the lyrics I posted are the original straight from Orianthi's lyrics for the song. Stop arguing child because it's no use when you don't have the original owners of the song backing you up. As the lead singer of sound the alarm said the contract is that the lyrics must remain the same, and they did and it is suffocating.

@Christina VanDoren As true as that may be, orianthi changed the lyrics and it can clearly be heard as "suffocated" No offence but i don't care about the original lyrics because this isn't the original song. So you may know the original well and i'm more than ok with that but don't be saying the lyrics are one thing when they're not in this particular cover ;)


Not hating im just stating the facts, in her booklet to the album it says suffocated. She changed them, Don't like it? take it up with orianthi not the youtube comment section please :) (with all due respect that is)

a bit of advice if you're still having trouble. as was already said, practice on easier songs first, but also get used to sliding your fingers down one position on the buttons, so your index finger is on red. definitely helped while my stupid self was trying to stretch my pinkie. get used to sliding and changing the neutral position depending on what notes are coming at you.
