Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark - Statues Lyrics
The way you moved
I can't explain
The mood subsides
And grows again
I've lived alone
I've tried to care
And understand
What is faith
And when belief
And who knows how
These things deceive
I never said
And though I tried
If I could leave
I can't imagine
How this ever came to be
I can't imagine
How this ever came to be

Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark Statues Comments
I saw them play this live in 2019. It seemed like everyone sat down, except for my mate and I, who lived up to the song title.
Kept me going through some tough times at Uni believe it or not!
Dedicated to Ian Curtis when he died months before the album was published. Great. Masterpiece.
Is it just me or does it sound like this song inspired The Cure's "All Cats Are Grey"?
I’ve grown up with the two tracks, but never put them together. There’s definitely a similarity, but there were a lot of artists treading similar ground at the time and they all lent ideas from each other. This is a really haunting song. Never fails to get the hairs on my arms standing up almost 40 years after I first heard it.
@NXJ Yeah, that's true. I was just comparing the two specifically because they sounded like they had similar chord structures. This truly is a powerful song though. It's very melancholy, but it gives me a dash of hope, ya know?
It's the beautiful never ending note in the background. Never changing, like a bagpipe drone note, but played on high synth strings.. genius.
You beat me to it I was Just gonna say the same thing! Not many pop songs in history sustain a note all the way through! One of my all time fave OMD songs even though much unlike most of their upbeat melodies.
Another great song from what is arguably their best album and a beautiful counterpoint to Stanlow
Ian (RIP) would be made up - this is class.
so geile songs können nur von O.M.D. kommen
Haunting and very atmospheric.
It is about Ian Curtis ...have to ask, did you mean to make that reference? ;-)
It sounds like a dirge. Statues>stiff>corpse. A great funeral song.
Magnificent melancholy, so simply laid out and sweetly sung. This song has been one of my moody faves for many, many years. Thank you, OMD.
I'm with you!
I don't know what it is but there is something about this song...
~ come check out Gag-bit Vinyl in Bushwick NYC for 80s/post punk/new wave, including lots of OMD ~ :-D
