Orbison, Roy - Working For The Man Lyrics

Hey now you better listen to me everyone of you
We got a lotta lotta lotta lotta work to do
Forget about your woman and that water can
Today were working for the man

well pick up your feet
we've got a deadline to meet
I'm gonna see you make it on time
Don't relax
I want elbows and backs
I wanna see everybody from behind

'Cause your working for the man working for the man
you gotta make him a hand when you're working for the man

Oh well I'm pickin' 'em up and I'm laying 'em down
I believe he's gonna work me into the ground
I pull to the left I heave to the right
I wanna kill him but it wouldn't be right

'Cause I,m working for the man working for the man
gotta make him a hand when you're working for the man

Well the boss man's daughter sneaks me water
everytime her daddy's down the line
she says meet me tonight love a me right
and everything is gonna be fine
So I slave all day without much pay
'cause I'm just abiding my time
'cause the company and the daughter you see
Their both gonna be all mine

Yah I'm gonna be the man gonna be the man
Gotta make him a hand if I'm gonna be the man

working for the man working for the man
gonna be the man gonna be the man
Gotta make him a hand working for the man

The 60's had Roy Orbison and Gene Pitney-two of the greatest singers ever. Don't know who had the greater range, but both were in a class by themselves. Hasn't been anyone since who could match them. Both are gone now, but greatly missed by their aging fans.

bought this 45 when I was 13 despite all my friends telling me to get something else as they didn't like it Back then 45s were the thing in Rock and Roll and R&B and the man at the counter would play any record you wanted back then in NY I was right all along more than I knew at the time

    e.... ....

@***** It was released in very late 1962 as a "45" single but it was very early 1963 when I bought it in NY The country feel probably explained why my friends in the Bronx did not like it  It was b/w "Leah" Monument Records which relaeased it was based in Nashville and known for C&W The NY radio dial was packed from end to end with all kinds of stations except C&W something that did not exist in metro NY until the 1970s AM radio on the right nights carried very far and I did hear country music on stations from upstate NY, Wheeling WV and others closer to the South or even in rural areas of the Mid-West or Western NY state BTW I still have the 45 packed away here somewhere

"I want to see everybody from behind" - clearly there were no sexual harassment laws back then. Aaaaaghh, I knew it was the good old days for reasons beyond just rock and roll.

    D.... N....

with pick & shovel the gang all face one way the boss can see all working in unison! Believe me buddy you aint got time to think of anything but keeping the rhythm --- if you don't wanna pick in your shoulder that is--- say you guys got it EASY today--- be thankful!

    D.... N....

What he's referring to is the boss is making sure everyone's working. There's no sexual harassment going on.

  28. c.... t....

"English is the product of 11th century Norman men-at-arms trying to make dates with Anglo-Saxon barmaids, and is no more legitimate than the other product of such encounters"

flammable and inflammable both exist and are interchangeable. you drive on a parkway and park on a driveway. English is messed up.

  35. S.... D....

No such word as irregardless, it is just regardless. I know because I make the same mistake. You have a great idea though.

  36. A.... K....

while it says its from the platinum collection, this is originally from In Dreams: the greatest hits

  37. C.... R....

ya know,,, one thing that would be nice is if someone would be able to take or get the time to go ALL the way through these music files irregardless of who the artist is and put in the year date that the song, demo, never released or whatever came out. That way for those people who would like to know the year a song came out , it would be there for them

  38. i.... ....

i'm speechlesss. blew away.. thnx 4 posting.
