This is definitely one of my favorite Christmas songs of all time. It really captures the spirit of giving in a way that's hard to talk about at this time of year. Tho I'm use to the randy travis version but the original is fantastic... I hope everyone is keeping warm this christmas.. <3

Everyone should listen to this once every Christmas season. Yes, Silent Night and O Holy Night are wonderful songs, but this piece is the only one I know that captures the reality of Christmas in our prosperous times and places. When Orbison recites those trite lines that we all use - "should you stop, better not, much too busy, you're in a hurry, my how time does fly " - with his perfect phrasing, it switches Christmas on to a whole different channel.

Ahh reminds me of my dad. Who is no longer with us. It takes me to my childhood. Happy memories.

As much as I love Roy, I have to ask, and everytime I hear this magnificent song, the question comes to my mind:
HOW COME ELVIS NEVER SANG THIS SONG?
This song is so much Elvis Presley, and I can literally see him on stage in the early 70s, giving his all with his deep resonating baritone, a female choir backing him up. The perfect mix of country and gospel, which this song is, It would have fit him like a glove.

This has all but disappeared from local playtime during the Christmas season when it used to be a regular. Don't know why other than it has a sad content. I guess people really do hurry by. The story in this carries shadows of 'no room at the inn'.

It's a wonder he never recorded a xmas album to my knowledge. He had the voice for those high notes in carols such as O Holy Night etc.

I really wish he did! I'm sick and tired of the pop Christmas songs, I prefer the old classic ones from the 50s and 60s, like ones by Andy Williams.
