Orbison, Roy - Crawling Back Lyrics

Only you and no one else
Can keep me crawling back
You know I cant help myself
And now I'm crawling back

After all you've done to me
The times you've turned me down
I still will be your clown
Because I love you
I'm crawling back

You know I would die for you
Heaven knows how I have cried for you
But what else can I do
But crawl on back to you, ooh
Crawling back to you

People stop they talk and they stare
But they don't know that you really care
That you're only lonely, and making believe
And you need me around
When the world turns you down

Whenever you might need me
I will come crawling back
Wherever you will lead me
I will come crawling back

  10. h.... X....

I have heard a critique of rock thesinging voices of Rock and Roll singers that said that there are only three male singers in the history of rock music who could have made it as opera starts. They are: Jackie Wilson, Meat Loaf, and - Roy Orbison. This song presents Roy's operatic voice better than most. It gives me goosebumps.

  11. 0.... ....

  24. S.... K....

This must have been written after Claudette had the affair and Roy took her back.

  25. D.... K....

    Good one!

  26. I.... T....

People associate this song with Roys wife dying but it Was recorded before Cluadettes sad passing. It is a quite beautiful song

  27. B.... N....

Saw him at the Sam Houston Colosseum in 63' I was a junior in high school.

  28. a.... m....

One of the most beautiful love songs ever made ,they don't make them that this anymore and as for the singer Roy orbison a legend

  29. N.... ....

Elvis Costello said the melody of this is similar to something written by the composer Robert Schumann- would love to know what that is!

  30. j.... r....

All I hear on radio these days is “ Pretty Woman “ . It’s such a shame when he made so many fine records such as this one. We’ll never hear anyone to match him .

  31. E.... B....

I really love this and only found it recently. It is brilliant, Roy at his very best

  32. T.... F....

I first saw Roy in Melbourne Australia at the Palais picture theatre back in the early 60s and the Rolling Stones were the support act he blew them away !!

  33. M.... !....

Can’t help falling in love by Elvis vibe anyone?

  34. a.... m....

My granddaughter was given it loads one day and I played this to her and she shut right up ,she is only four months old and I play it to her all the time and this song is older then me xxx

  35. L.... C....

Beautiful, no wonder Roy and Claudette remarried. If a man wrote such a song for me wild horses wouldn't keep me from him...

    L.... C....

YES LINDSAY IMAGINE SOMEONE LOVING YOU THAT MUCH BUT ROY DID LOVE CLAUDETTE I DONT THINK HE EVER GOT OVER LOSING HER ....EVEN YEARS LATER AFTER HE REMARRIED THE SONGS HE WROTE LEFT ME IN NO DOUBT WHO THEY WERE FOR

  36. T.... M....

Such a romantic sing and his range the high and low notes, there will be and never will be a singer nor artist like him EVER in the whole so I'm glad I found this sing as even my granddaughter love's this song as she will start kicking off and as soon as I put this song on she stops and smiles and listen's to it and she was born in 2018 and this was made in 1965 so thus song is older than me xx lol xx live you Amiya Rose xxx

  37. S.... S....

Never before ,never since , never again ,a voice like this Man had !

  38. s.... d....

There are so many songs, by Roy Orbison that no ones knows, omg he has so many beautiful songs

  39. S.... E....

This has to be the best love song I have heard in all my 72 years

  40. B.... P....

M-G-M paid Orbison a huge sum to come to them from Monument...only #46 on Billboard but as you note the Canucks almost sent it to the apex. In the British Commonwealth the M-G-M period was often quite successful (but released on the London label). Penny Arcade went to #1 in Oz..in 1969. AND then the Europeans bought M-G-M records!

  41. E.... O....

Great song I haven’t heard before

  42. R.... W....

According to what he told me, Bill Dees wrote this song. Bill and Roy teamed up writing songs in the late fifties...one of the most famous being "Oh Pretty Woman". Bill played keyboards and sang harmony with Roy. Bill told me a lot about Roy.

  43. I.... T....

if there has been a better singer than Roy then Im still to hear him. He is simply unique

  44. B.... J....

Geweldig knap nummer van "the Big O"

  45. T.... B....

truly one of the most gorgeous arranged tunes ever. This song was meant for Roys voice and range. I can listen to this over and over and never tire from it.

  46. C.... ....

Yes you are very lucky, I never was able to see Roy Orbison in person ...just in dreams.

  47. P.... C....

A wonderful song  with a complicated structure, yet sung with consummate  ease.

  48. f.... c....

THE BEST SINGER IN THE WORLD

    f.... c....

    We know that Frank x

  49. e.... o....

Beats me when i hear people on youtube saying that freddie mercury had the best voice, what a koke.

  50. t.... w....

I saw Roy at the King George's hall in Blackburn,Lancs. U.K. in the early 60's on a youth club outing. The Beatles had just been on stage and the place was in an absolute uproar, clapping, screaming, stamping the floor....... then Roy came on stage and hit the "c" chord that starts "In Dreams" - and the atmosphere and the deafening noise was cut,as with a knife to perfect silence! When Roy finished the song (sung live but every bit as good as the record),he simply said,"Howdy folks!" then sang probably half a dozen more songs,at the end of which he simply said,"Bye folks!"and left the stage to a standing ovation. He was,and always will be just sensational! I will never forget being privilliged to have seen Roy in cocert, simply - The Best.

    t.... w....

    You`re really lucky guy!

    t.... w....

tony wilson ....I saw him in the Sam Houston Colosium in 63' I was a Junior in high school.

    t.... w....

I hope I can sing along with him in the heaven…. embracing my husband.

    t.... w....

I had the honor of seeing him in the early 1960's in Birmingham, Alabama at Cascade Plunge. He was absolutely spellbinding and magnificent.

  51. M.... W....

I started dating my wife when she was 14 and I was 18 and through the four years we were going steady there were a number of times when our disagreements put me on edge, when that happened I would come crawling back hoping she would have me back. This great song by Roy Orbison surely reminds me of the time's I came crawling back to my beautiful girlfriend in hope's she would have me back. After 47 years of marriage I guess "Crawling Back" worked out to be the best thing, it sort of hurt then but looking back Roy Orbison's beautiful song does bring back fond memory's of our early relationship.

    M.... W....

holy krap, your wife's parents let you date her, when she was 14, and you were 18??

    M.... W....

@james Parker Well, maybe the fact that it was over 50 years ago had something to do with it.

    M.... W....

    @Rebecca Hicks I suppose....

    M.... W....

@james Parker It happens in high school, seniors date underclassmen

  52. v.... ....

    Amazing chord changes, tingles.

    v.... ....

ya, I love the chords from 2:27-2:35 that sustain the "A" on the vocal....

  53. R.... B....

You just can't put a price on his voice...

    R.... B....

    Ray Price? lol

    R.... B....

    @Blahsheep LOL!

    R.... B....

    Hahah someone got it

  54. M.... A....

One of his best songs, the way het steps it up and goes all out towards the end!

    M.... A....

Roy always starts low and finishes high.

  55. g.... t....

    amazing

  56. T.... G....

    Beautiful song x

  57. G.... S....

    the best Roy R I P.

  58. D.... P....

I LOVE THIS. ROY SURE KNEW HOW TO DELIVER A LOVE SONG...IF ONLY MORE PEOPLE KNEW HOW TO HUMBLE THEMSELVES AND LOVE LIKE THIS,!!

  59. S.... R....

Wonderful,he had a voice that can never be matched- so full of emotion!

  60. M.... P....

A truly remarkable voice from such a wonderful man. And this song is a killer. Nobody sings like Roy Orbison.

  61. c.... ....

Been a big O fan since 1961 at low times in my life I play a Roy song.

    c.... ....

Hi Cliff. You've been a fan since the year I was born. Like Mark says - above comment - no one sings like Roy. Even Elvis said he was the greatest.

  62. E.... F....

I remember listening to this on my dad's LPs as a teenager.  A truly magnificent song.  One of his absolute best to be sure!

  63. J.... ....

They just don't come no better...JC

    J.... ....

    +JCandRoyTogether No they dont!!

  64. C.... O....

One of the most gifted of all popular singers, his voice can effortlessly switch over such a wide range. He hit the high notes like a top opera tenor would hit a high 'C'.

  65. M.... W....

This song shows what a powerful and beautiful voice Roy had. He was one of the greatest singer's of the 20th century.

    M.... W....

    +Milton Williams  Maybe THE greatest?

    M.... W....

I would have to say that I agree with Elvis that Roy had the greatest voice in "Rock & Roll". Thanks to YouTube we are able to hear so many great songs sung by Roy that maybe we would not have been able to hear. I was lucky enough to see Roy in Concert twice in '1978, how lucky I feel I was to be able to see and hear this Icon and Legend  Live in Concert, two of the greatest concerts I have ever gone to.

    M.... W....

    +Anthony Flynn Absolutely:))

  66. A.... ....

    Wow... what a song...
One I can personally and deeply relate to (as well as perhaps many of us).

  67. T.... L....

this guy kelton2 saying he can sing like roy orbison what a crock i saw roy orbison when i was young in the 70's roy at the end of crying he kept hitting the high note at the end he kept doing it over and over going higher and higher he was no joke

    T.... L....

@Trampus Lane Yeah...I agree...Many people do not know that, when Roy was to record, "Running Scared," his coach told him to not go into falsetto. Roy wasn't sure he could hit the high note but agreed to do it. He sounded wonderful! Many of his high note songs after that are not in falsetto,-there is no voice break. He was the greatest singer/songwriter there ever was. I love singing his songs...but can't get close to the high notes...I just do them anyhow...JC

    T.... L....

@JCandRoyTogether A good comparison is Bobby Hatfield singing, "Unchained Melody." (Righteous Brothers) And he does a song called, "I Love You For Sentimental Reasons," where his voice on the very end fade out goes up out of (human) range...you have to listen very closely.

    T.... L....

another singing one of my favrite songs ever writtin is cara mia by jay black of jay and the americans his singing is incredible

    T.... L....

@Trampus Lane Jay also sang, "Crying." He wasn't Roy but he wasn't bad. Another you may enjoy is Bill Dees singing a song he co-wrote and Roy recorded, "If Only For a While." It's here on You Tube.

    T.... L....

I love Roy's voice! I get chills and my eyes well up when he hits those strong high notes, like in Indian Summer with the Gatlin Brothers. I have to say though, I love his falsetto too. The way he could control his voice was incredible!

  68. P.... L....

In the early days, Roy was on stage just before the Beatles, who were waiting in the wings to go on, and one of them said "How the fuck are we supposed to follow that?". I think that sums him up, really, doesn't it?

    P.... L....

What a good revelation you have made, it has made Roy even more of an Amazement to me, thanks.

    P.... L....

And I know that Jeff Lynne of ELO was a bit of a fanboy of Roy's too! I love it when huge stars are starstruck!

    P.... L....

Yes indeed, what a legend that man was and always will be

  69. r.... ....

My last comment was 5 months ago, he still moves me !     Only you and no one else !    To true ROY .

  70. D.... D....

    My favourite all time track

  71. j.... p....

Roy didn't have a "5 octave voice"; that's part of what makes his voice, imho, the greatest voice of the recorded age...how he was able to sing, with the range (broad as it was) he had, effortlessly blending his natural/falsetto voice, to give us these timeless classics is nothing short of a "musical miracle"...the power, versatility of his voice gives an illusion of an exorbitant, multi-octave range, but as Roy himself said:  "I don't have that broad of a range, but I make good use of what I have..."

    j.... p....

@Sarah Kinsey actually, here (ironically, for our discussion!) in this song, he sings one of those "lowest" notes that he could do, @ 2:34 (""d-ooooowwnnn")...his voice "wavers" a bit....when I think, how he could compose/record such a song as this, and have it only hit, what #65 or whatever, I just shake my head...If I could write a song such as beautiful as this, and have it go to #65, I think I would HANG MYSELF, LOL!!

    j.... p....

james Parker every one of his songs is amazing! I find myself listening to his voice and not the lyrics, is that weird?

    j.... p....

@Sarah Kinsey not necessarily...what "draws/hooks" us into a song is complex...combinations of the components of the song/music....my example, of what you are saying, is the "Gipsy Kings", who sing in a "foreign" (to me!) language ("Catalan", I think?)...though I have almost no idea of what they are saying, yet the EMOTIONS come through, in the music/voices, and "hooks me" every time!

    j.... p....

james Parker that’s like me and The Piano Guys. Their music conveys so much emotion through either the piano or the cello.

    j.... p....

@Sarah Kinsey yes...."instrumental music" that reaches us in a way that words cannot...or lyrics, that do the opposite....I must say, for me, I am "reached" strongest, by the combination of the two...Gordon Lightfoot "sings" "If You Could Read My Mind"; he sings, and then the cellos/violins "sing", and send shivers down my spine....

  72. j.... p....

Could you imagine, co-writing this song, and singing it (as Roy did) and not have it go #1??  I think I'd a been in the looney bin!!

    j.... p....

In 1963 The British Musical Invasion began --and Americans spurned there own music getting Satt-iss-fach-shun from the sound of the Limeys. Check the Top Charts from 1965. These days Americans spurn American cars.!

  73. L.... J....

The first time I heard this song, I just sat down and said OH WOW!

  74. D.... G....

I always thought his Willbury's, "Not Alone Anymore" is a related to "Crawling Back."

    D.... G....

The clarity, warmth, fullness, strength, quality will never be again.

  75. M.... F....

Lovely song crawling back reminds me of my dad the way he sings soni Tyrone

  76. N.... K....

I love this one so much

  77. r.... ....

My wife's favourite and I don't wonder at it !   Matchless !   God love you Roy .your presence is still felt.

  78. c.... d....

no doubt he is my king.

  79. k.... ....

The first record that made me cry.

    k.... ....

I'm not surprised. You have shown the same courage that Roy showed when he recorded this song. Pop singers and heartthrobs are not supposed to sing songs about getting the elbow, are they?

    k.... ....

If this song makes you cry, then "Losing You" will make you want to go hang yourself (whether you lost your "other half" or not!!)

  80. r.... ....

Why must we stay with the past tense when we speak of Roy, I say still is the best !

    love him still .

  81. N.... S....

Can remember a love by this song

  82. D.... S....

Ever since first hearing this song in 1965 I've called it my absolute RO favorite. I've never heard anyone even try to cover it.

Thanks forever, Roy and William "Bill" Dees, co-writer on this Orbisong.

  83. s.... a....

beautiful, one of the greatest singers ever,,thanks big O. from the one and only ARDWICK--ANDY..

  86. T.... S....

    You're welcome!

  87. P.... C....

Wow! Fantastic! Thank you Tom and others who post these great Roy Orbison songs, interviews and information for us.

  88. j.... ....

Roy had this great gift of being able to make the listener believe that they had experienced the heartaches in the lyrics even if they hadn't.

Superb voice, superb writer, superb man.

  89. c.... ....

Where, exactly, does his voice come from? Which dimension? Or does it come directly from God? It has an ethereal , unearthly quality I have never heard in any other human being.

  90. J.... B....

    Me too !

  91. J.... B....

Totally superb ,God thats good !

  92. m.... ....

I can't believe I have never heard this beautiful song before tonight when I saw a docu on TV on Roy and they played it. Thank you so much for putting it on here.

  93. P.... L....

He was the best singer in Elvis Presley's opinion as well. People might forget that. Don't.

  94. A.... B....

One of Roys most beautiful songs...I also love the PJ Proby version..

  95. f.... c....

He was the best singer ever in my opinion.Roy Orbison....Fantastic.

  96. f.... c....

Simply beautiful. This song makes me cry every time I hear it!

  97. R.... ....

Hello Ninjabluewings: I actually have all his MGM tunes that I want but I was just noting the difficulty that others probably have trying to obtain these.

  98. j.... ....

But any real music fan wouldn't want them on CD though, but rather on vinyl with the two-LP set from Polygram released in 1989 with all (I think) the MGM songs.
