@caden brockbank My two friends from high school introduced me to Opeth, but I've never met another person who is into them, or even knows about them. Unfortunately most of the younger generations gravitate towards simple, "manufactured" bot music that is not intended to be felt/listened to, but merely serve as a background noise while they talk about meaningless matters, or, if they're alone, to distract them from their selves, from the value gained through introspection and self-reflection.

I feel you, dont know any Opeth fans either, and Opeth is my favorite band!

The intro to this song always reminded me of Pokemon XD Gale Of Darkness with the midget professor looking at you through the t.v..

Discovered this album 10 years ago in June. I found their t shirt of this album at a local thrift store. Ten years later, Still Life is one of my favorite records ever.

Never been into any other death metal/growling music, but I have absolutely loved Opeth since the first time I heard this album back in the mid 2000s. Sheer musical poetry. Mikael Akerfeldt has one of the most beautiful and haunting voices I've ever heard. Everything about their music is artistic genius.

I recently get through opeth's stuff, this is just one of the greatest things I ever listened to :o ❤️

Still Life is absolutely perfect.

Their best album from start to finish, in no small part due to the strength of this opener.

One if theur best songs, undoubtedly, but something's missing at around 6.58, it's on a large amount of versions of this song, but on the live version there is no "gap" at the start of the riff, nor is it on the original cd when I play it directly. I know I'm a nit picker loll but it bugs me so much that so many versions are the same as this, which is I'm guessing originally a pirated version and the guy didn't notice the cd jump at this part. Not that it's that important admittedly, but I feel like if ever there was a type of music that should notice little things like this, it's prog.

The first Opeth song I ever heard back in 2000, got chills when I heard it first time. Never heard an extreme metal song that was so soft and yet so dark at the same time. Was a moving experience.

Peace Dweller listen to Dead Black (Heart of Ice) by Soul Remnants. It’s one of the most beautiful death metal songs I’ve ever heard, apart from Opeth.

Brandon H Nope, the reflection IS the silhouette. Look, if the cross would be reflected it'd be upside down, but instead they put this figure, which is our protagonist who in the eyes of the town people is the antichrist by not being a Christian. So it's a clever play on the story if the album...

Actually this song is just the beginning of the story. Still Life is a concept album about a man returning home after being driven away for being an atheist to get the love of his life back (Melinda), who became a nun in the meantime. When he meets her the church executes her for heresy, for this the man massacres everyone in his blindrage, then he collapses and dies. In death he gets reunited with his love.
