I loved and learned opeth as a metal band and I miss some good and unique prog metal what provided Opeth in past. It was really masterpiece, dark and poetic and powerful. What they do now, it’s also beautiful and I appreciate it, but as a metalhead I’m disappointed, I expected some metal and not what they do now😑

After seeing them live in Leeds, especially after this song, I was amazed and astonished of how they manage to be so emotional but brutal even not growling, or using standard aggressive clichés. They're awesome above every measure.

To be honest , it's not bad but they never got that beloved feeling back on their songs , average singing , good riffs but not compared to any of the ones on their best albums , what a shame...

Been a fan since BWP & I will say that this is probably the best opera album since Watershed. Obviously old school Opeth is still supreme, but they're a progressive-metal band: change is inevitable. But this album is truly special. Although being American, I prefer the English version.

Hey mikael. Just watched your interview on the Nuclear Blast Records channel and it's inspiring. I've always had the thought that you play what YOU enjoy rather than what people want to hear, and that interview confirmed it. I love the screams and growls as much as anyone but what I love more is your progression as a band. Your new album is simply inspired. I'm just going through it now to pick out the bass lines but man, the more I listen, the better it gets. I'm no real musician but I love the jazz form that you guys bring to this genre of music. Keep doing what you feel like doing and people will love it. No trend here. Love it!

Wrong on so many levels. Fear of Russians, denying even tourism for other pale white christian Europeans, relying on Arabs and blacks to uphold Swedish society... and you created hell. In flames made much better album, even music-wise this one may be better if you are on your private beach in Maldives.
Just retire or make a real meaningful and/or metal album, not one with "ooh-ooh"s and population of other continents in it, with unicorn stereotyping.
Music-wise - album is a top one, conceptually it's garbage.

I love the bass tone. It sounds really vintage. Nothing like what you hear nowadays.

I feel like Mikael's growls would actually go with this current style very well on the more "heavy" parts.

That said, this new album is shaping up to be fantastic.

And where the fukk has growl gone? Mikael's growl has/had been the spark that made me a fan of Opeth and fired up my perspective towards Progressive Death Metal. Today, when I hear "Progressive Death Metal", my first thought is "Opeth". So where's my beloved Mikael's growl? Delicate singing and powerful growl- that's Opeth I love.

It has been 11 years since the last album with growls, you might wanna look elsewhere for that type of vocals. Opeth inspired many bands, you can search for them if you like. Why do people like you come out of the wood to complain everytime a new Opeth album is released ? Mikael has been pretty clear about the direction of the new records yet you act like it's a surprise that there are no growls. I love the old albums too, but if you don't like the «new direction», you can go back and listen to them now. Complaining won't make Mike growl again you know ?

First listen and this is beyond amazing. Music and visuals. Have experienced Opeth albums since Ghost Reveries after release (as my music listening has taken other directions) but now I'm really hyped for September 27th!

The art and animation in this video reminds me a lot of the witch sequences from the anime Madoka Magica, especially the the curtains at the beginning.

I'm getting some serious An Endless Sporadic vibes from the video.

This sounds more promising than the last few in that it isn't a kind of modern take on 70's psychedelic prog-rock...It's more intense, dramatic and the tonewheel organ combined with the higher gain guitar riffage balances a lot better and overall has a more demented streak, The good type of demented that is of course. I am looking forward to this one.
I'm not expecting Morningrise redux, My Arms Your Hearse redux, Still Life redux, Blackwater Park redux, Deliverance redux, Damnation redux (or Deliverance/Damnation as it was meant to be) and Ghost Reveries redux - That run is unbeatable and each record stands as good as when they were fresh, That sort of magic can not be repeated. Also, I do get the departure from the guttural death metal vocals after a killer run on vocal duties for Bloodbath...But the odd beast mode from Mikael wouldn't be at all unwelcome still
