Opeth - All Things Will Pass Lyrics

Rose of Summer, withered times
Shadows fall on contouring lines
Far beyond a sleeping wish
Lunar tongue on a lasting bliss

Dead within a dream
Icy river stream

Lend yourself...

Clouds of dust in a waning light
You have given up on plight
Time is now, my dearest friend
Hidden years and a heart to mend

And should we meet again
The loss of everything
Three wishes to a friend
Three hundred sorrows gather
But if we lend ourselves
Amidst rock and poison grime
There may well be a time
A kingdom past its prime

Dead within a dream
Icy river stream

Your silver voice in my throat
Potion without an antidote
A routine death for the well-immersed
After all, the years have left us cursed
A simple test in an iron cage
Old tradition in a modern age
Strong and true are the weak at heart
I am you, you am I

If everything ends
Is it worth to turn back home again?
If everything ends
Is it worth to turn back home again?
If everything ends
Is it worth to turn back home again?

Opeth All Things Will Pass Comments
  1. a.... ....

It worth the hard listening of whole of the album for this last few second in the end :)

  2. O.... _....

Heard this first time live and wow what an experience! The whole show. They even played a little part of the beginning of Bleak with a jazzy acoustic feel, prima vista. Michael was just showing what he played to the band. :D Amazing band, was better live than could have ever expected.

  3. A.... D....

The album cover reminds me of the Teletubbies skit where you could see the outside of a house and the silhouette of a guy running back and forth through the windows. But darker and more metal

  4. J.... T....

Larga vida a Opeth!

  5. P.... D....

Mikael, where did you find this guitar tone. It sucks🤘🤘😠😠

  6. L.... A....

Żenująca i tandetna płyta Opeth. Najgorsze co do tej pory "stworzyli".

  7. A.... ....

    George Harrison aproves.

  8. D.... E....

I can now say I don’t mind if Opeth never goes back to death metal, that outro made me look at this era of their music in a new light. I almost feel guilty for bashing them so hard for their albums post Watershed, they’re doing their thing and this is what makes them happy, I should have respected that. Fantastic job on this record 🤘

  9. A.... O....

what a shame, only 95k listeners. This world sucks

    A.... O....

Assaf Ovadia lol calm down. Majority of listeners either buy the album or simply stream it.

  10. J.... T....

Great song. Strangely enough there are some QOTSA vibes there.

  11. M.... B....

Dla mnie wibitny album Opeth.... Bardzo ważny w mym życiu..... 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸

  12. X.... S....

Holy cannoli this should be the main OST for the next Resident Evil, at least maybe a loop of the first minute. Great jam otherwise, WOW!

  13. D.... D....

Just heard this live in Perth last night, was truly beautiful

  14. A.... A....

    Lend yourself....

  16. J.... B....

Ok. My new favorite Opeth album. These dudes can play anything!

  17. B.... V....

This sounds like a soundtrack from a good Disney animated movie. I like

  18. T.... ....

The way they play this one live is nothing short of masterful

  19. A.... B....

After 5:50 i have lost my shit

  20. R.... L....

"If everything ends, is it right to turn back home again?"

    Yes it is.

  21. J.... W....

    7:39 "filttthyyyyy vegannssss" lol

this coming from a vegan ps

    J.... W....

Fuck you. Now that's what I'm gonna hear every single time from now on!

    J.... W....

Of course you had to tell us you're a vegan.
    Just kidding, salute!

  22. J.... ....

6:32 = The best vocal melody I've heard in ages. I feel that in the pit of my stomach every time I hear it.

    J.... ....

Because it sounds like Hangar 18 ;)

    J.... ....

@Jürgen Hoffmann Vaguely. Not enough though. Nice try.

  23. D.... K....

    😍Opeth forever 🤘🏼 always brilliant

  24. R.... L....

The finest song Opeth have written in years. Masterful.

  25. m.... ....

Cool nod to John Bonham, Led Zeppelin - When The Levee Breaks, 5.52 - 6.05, Respect.

  26. O.... c....

Cough sounds behind you 3.23 .

  27. H.... R....

    Best song of 2019

  28. r.... ....

    pure genius

  29. D.... S....

Combo of Continuum+All Things Will Pass is the perfect funeral song.

  30. c.... a....

I can not stop listening to it 😨

  31. F.... ....

WHY ARE THE VIEWS SO LOW?!

  32. A.... !....

This song has the most emotional outro since Demon Of The Fall😭

    A.... !....

    Adax ! Dont forget Folklore

  33. M.... B....

Genialna muzyka 🎶 dla mnie najlepsza płyta OPETH......

  34. i.... ....

This song is a great example of how what matters most in music is dynamics and transitions. Great song from beginning to end, but the switch to the last "dead within a dream" at 5:14 and the way the vocals tie into the last part at 6:35 is as good as anything Opeth has done. At least absolutely on par with the legendary transition back to the intro riff at the end of The Drapery Falls.

    i.... ....

You forgot Passion (with an upper case), but otherwise right on.

  35. D.... C....

    Fuck yeh

  36. R.... M....

I think this is the best Opeth outro. Perhaps the second greatest prog metal outro behind Finally Free by Dream Theater. That last line is probably the most powerful line I have heard in music for the whole year. Absolutely heart crunching.

  37. T.... C....

    That outro 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

  38. m.... ....

    Love this song....masterpiece.

  39. B.... F....

Can't stop listening to this. Opeth's Magnum Opus.

  40. S.... S....

Opeth is at its best with clean vocals and acoustic guitars. Fight me.

  41. T.... M....

The outro literally is an eargasm.

    T.... M....

    you mean teargasm?

    T.... M....

@Riddhiman Medhi , that's also true but this melody is one of the most touching melodies created in this decade.

  42. R.... Z....

one of their best songs ever

  43. J.... A....

Well, shit... this might be in my top 5 Opeth songs now

  44. D.... M....

Someone can explain me the meaning of the lyrics? Because i speak spanish and i can't get the full meaning of the song and i fucking love it. Some help will be great

    D.... M....

hay una versión en inglés, bobo

    D.... M....

@Kyle Hyde que brillante comentario el tuyo, considerando que el video es del tema en ingles. Digno de un IQ extremadamente alto. Seguí de largo, tarado

    D.... M....

    @David Masessa xd

  45. N.... D....

Reminds me a lot of "Faith in Others", last track on Pale Communion. Both tracks made me think "I'm not saying they should retire, but if they did, this would be a good track to leave us with."

  46. M.... M....

Opeth always knows how to end an album with the perfect song.

  47. C.... W....

This album is beautiful and gets even more so with every listen. I think its up there with their best work and will become a classic. The outro to this song is also fantastic.

  48. J.... S....

    We Will never meet again

  49. s.... ....

The outro of this track might be the best thing Opeth have ever done.

  50. T.... F....

This is a masterpiece not more not less, Mikael has learned so much from diverse music direction as Prog Folk and Jazz but his music is not a copy it sounds new, but very familiar

  51. M.... S....

    Cool Frippish intro!

  52. K.... ....

    2:23 Rows of houses....

  53. c.... ....

The intro is scary as hell, sooo good

  54. B.... ....

Screams or not, this band is incapable of bad music. Dare I say they are incapable of not being geniuses.

  55. s.... ....

First Dream Theater, then Tool, now Opeth! 2019, you're in my will.

    s.... ....

Yeah, but who is objectively the best band in the world? They are all cool, I’m a fan of all three, but I don’t think that they are the best music has to offer. They get real close though.

    s.... ....

Voyager and Leprous just to top it off :)

    s.... ....

Except for Tool, 10000 is 9 times better.

  56. J.... C....

    Thank you Mikael.

  57. A.... H....

The best track on the album together with Dignity <3

  58. R.... B....

THE FORMER THINGS SHALL PASS AWAY. ..

  59. A.... ....

Opeth is great again. I have liked a few songs here and there since Watershed, but this album is fantastic. :)

  60. L.... G....

This is one for the ages

  61. D.... P....

    That snare echo...

    D.... P....

they do it actually live as well and it's bombastic :D

  62. C.... ....

I haven’t listened to a lot of Opeth recently. I’m a massive fan, but I’ve found it difficult to get into the last couple of albums. It’s not just because the growling is gone. Part of the beauty of Opeth for me was their ability to go from brutal to serene and I was worried that I would never get to hear that again. After hearing this album and particularly this song, I’m not sure that Opeth moving away from their older style was such a bad idea after all. I can’t put it into words other than “wow”, and that outro is amongst the best pieces of music they have ever done. Incredible.

    C.... ....

Its an adjustment, but if you make it you will appreciate more of their progressive stuff. Its good music regardless of the genre if you give it an honest try. For me it takes a few listens to really appreciate their new works but once I do, im hooked.

  63. H.... ....

06:05 When you take Hangar 18 from Megadeth and mangle it to an emotional masterpiece.

  64. T.... R....

I feel weird even typing this but does the last two minutes make anyone else tear up? Not sure why but it does almost every time!!

    T.... R....

    instantly

    T.... R....

    Every fuggin' time man

    T.... R....

Yes it does ... grabs you right by the heart strings ... this guy sings like a bird.

    T.... R....

A lot of Opeth's stuff does that to me. Listening to them is like looking in a black mirror. In a great, cathartic way. 🙂

    T.... R....

Because it’s epic and I was in the bathroom during the concert when this song started just made it back

  65. J.... S....

This is not my fav album bu Opeth, it has good moments, very good moments, some flat parts. But the intro (entire first track) and the outro of the album (second part of this track) might be the best combined intro-outro in their discography.

  66. w.... f....

Some people would listen to Opeth and only hear the discord, and think that they don't know what they're doing..... Others will listen to Opeth and appreciate the raw artistry behind the compositions. This song is an example of pure and raw skill in artistic composition. The opening lyrics "Rose of summer~" are absolutely breathtaking. The final "You am I~" with the instrumentals is orgasmic. This song is musical art in its purest form.

  67. D.... ....

Everyone talking about the outro, but damn that main riff groove is so heavy

    D.... ....

It's like a new version of something from Still Life

    D.... ....

    Yes!!!!!!

    D.... ....

SO HEAVY!!! I love that riff!!!

    D.... ....

@Mark Donaldson Thought the same!!! The only miss for perfection are the guturals and we have a masterpiece song like the songs from Still Life

    D.... ....

I love every part of this song, and of course absolutely love the outro. One of the best songs on the album.

  68. R.... L....

I enjoyed this song, and in my opinion it sounds like something from "My Arms, Your Hearse" but without the growls.

  69. I.... F....

That has to be the most beautiful outro I've heard since Deliverance.
Absolutely breathtaking! This album is a masterpiece.

    I.... F....

on the current setlists are actually their top 3 outros: Reverie/Harlequin Forest, All things will pass, Deliverance.... really awesome :D

  70. M.... C....

Fav song from the album, the ending fills me with so much emotion

  71. R.... M....

If you turn the speed down to 0.25X then you'd be listening to Slowpeth...

  72. e.... n....

We love you Mikael and Martin and Fredrik and Joakim and Martin. It is a wonderful journey.

  73. U.... T....

This guy knows how to end an album.

    U.... T....

    Fuck 🤘

  74. G.... ....

This is the album hit for me, especially the outro ❤❤

  75. B.... H....

    Ok. I did a translation on the Sweedish version. It is amazing how different the lyrics are, but they seem even more poetic this way, and it really helps decipher his message about the song, knowing his intention in both languages.. (He had to rewrite the words:meaning to keep the same meter for the songs. Trying to preserve the songs intention, while preserving its rhythm.) This is interesting;

    Allting Tar Slut:

Autumn is coming and Summer is coming
Shadow is born in the place you stand
Beyond security, hiding desires are hidden
When the moon licks its atmosphere

    Death within a dream
    Icy undercurrent

    Get your hands on ...

The dust dizzy in a faded light
You haven't looked at your house
When the time is right, my dear friend
Captured the years in the heart's home

And if we see you again
Then everything that lives is withered
    Three thoughts about a friend
    Three hundred mourning pieces
    But if we give up
    Among soot and crushed stone
    A time may come later
When a wish came too late

    Death within a dream
    Icy undercurrent

Your voice settled in my throat
Who was I before, if any at all?
Routines are performed in the same way
After all years according to label
    It is a simple equation
    We are misled by tradition
Strong is the one who dares to be weak
I am you, you are me

    If everything ends
    Is it worth returning home?
    If everything ends
    Is it worth returning home?
    If everything ends
    Is it worth returning home?

  76. C.... R....

Wow I'm speechless...It's certainly the most beautiful song in history of metal!! I got tears in my eyes everytime Im listening to it. Thank you Opeth.

  77. m.... d....

What an album! Masterpiece... you fuckin band, take a bow!

  78. A.... P....

Listen No. 01 - this song is weird
    Listen No. 100 - when can I start 101 😁😁

  79. F.... ....

    "If everything ends
    - is it worth to turn back home again?" One of the most beautiful moments in the history of rock/metal music for me. I heard this song on a bus and I just couldn't hold the tears back. It's as beautiful as Burden from Watershed

    F.... ....

Amen. I haven't been so moved by a song in my life

  80. F.... ....

This song is what I feel like "new" Opeth has been building up to over all these years. It's the perfect blend of their "newer" and "older" styles. Absolutely breathtaking!

My relationship with Opeth since Heritage has been weird to say the least. Some songs I adore, other songs I can't stand. I think it's the lack of consistency that has alienated many fans, moreso than the lack of growls. I like Opeth with growls, but I don't miss it. If I want it, I'll put on Ghost Reveries or My Arms, Your Hearse or any of their other classics.

What I've been missing from Opeth since Ghost Reveries is the PURPOSE (yes, even Watershed felt a bit too aimless). Their newer material often fails to communicate a purpose to me and becomes forgettable as a result. And that brings me to this song (as well as many others on this album); for the first time in forever I can not only hear the purpose, I can feel it. I can't describe how happy some moments on In Cauda Venenum has made me and I can't wait to hear where Opeth goes next.

This album is a triumph and a return to form, in my book. A round of applause to Mikael and everyone involved!

    F.... ....

Agreed 100%! Opeth is epic again!

    F.... ....

I feel as though Pale Communion did that for me. It's the only "new" Opeth record that I feels beats this. Sorceress felt a little aimless, as well as Heritage. At least until I listened to them a million times lol. I do think that the classics do better with purpose though.

    F.... ....

@Metal Guitar Covers This new album might be even better than Pale Communion. Its better than Watershed for sure, at least in my opinion. Lets see after one month after more listening, it might be Opeth "second tier". First tier for me are "Still Life" and "Blackwater Park".

    F.... ....

I didnt like this album at all when I first heard it. But after the 5th time listening I was able to absorb all the melodies and subtle complexities and its easily in my top 3 from them.

  81. d.... ....

This album was released exactly 2 weeks after finding out that my brother was diagnosed with lymphoma. So this album will forever remind me of these dark times ahead, and will be a part of my life. I seriously do not know how shitty i would feel if it wasnt for great music like this being put out. And that outro...there were definitely some tears when that came on

    d.... ....

darkais776 I’m so sorry bro, stay strong.

    d.... ....

I have a brother too, I can imagine your pain.
I wish him all the best

  82. t.... ....

The transition to the outtro, followed by the outtro itself, is one of the most stunning pieces of music I've heard in a good long while. This album as a whole is a goddamn masterpiece that easily goes toe-to-toe with anything they've done in the past.

  83. E.... L....

There's So Much SOUL in Mikael's voice in this Song! It is Just A MAGNIFICENT PIECE of Music!

    E.... L....

You're right, the feels are unreal.

    E.... L....

    Thanks Brother!

  84. S.... ....

Wow, this song gives me so many feels

  85. J.... S....

    They sure do

  86. S.... M....

    meisterwerk

  87. T.... C....

People have said it in the comments before. I'll say it again: what a fucking masterpiece.

  88. L.... K....

The vocal climax at 07:00 makes me cry

  89. a.... ....

EH İYİO GİVİ İSTE BU DİGERLRİNDEN DAJAJS OYYO GİBİ 😆😂😆🤪😆🤪🤪😆😂😂😆😆🤪

  90. G.... o....

I have listened to this song so many times already. Amazing.

  91. A.... C....

Mikaels voice is so expressive at the end of this song. Gave me chills.

  92. H.... O....

    Some majestic opus, wow!

  93. d.... ....

Just listened it through for the first time... when "Dignity" came out I called that it would be the best of the 'mellow' records, and THAT I think is a given. It might be one of the best ever. How anyone can, 30 years in now, knock out material that's pushing forward, great technically, dripping with feeling, blending old and new seamlessly... this is my AOTY, and a shortlist for AOTD. Stunning, you crazy Swede bastard (with your Swede + Uruguayan henchmen). Credos truly if anyone tops this... Nov gig in Dublin can't come quick enough... 😁

  94. t.... c....

    Sublime. ...c tout.

  95. O.... t....

This album definitely grows on you more with each listen. This song is just beautiful...

  96. B.... H....

This and Lovelorn crime are my favorites on this album. Can't decide! CANT DECIDE!!!!! Uuuuuggghhh... So fucking good.

  97. V.... B....

“Strong and true are the weak at heart” CHILLS

  98. J.... C....

    If everything ends
Is it worth to turn back home again?
