Every funeral I've ever been at (well, the visitations at least) have had slide shows of memories/pictures from the person's life, and music would be playing with the slideshow. When I die (probably like 50-80 years from now as i'm still young) I would want the same thing, and I know exactly what songs i want played.

Okay, let me explain.
You know that saying that goes: Don't give a poor man a house, give him the tools to build a house?
It's the same thing. When you pray, God won't give you the brand new car that you were asking for, but he'll give you the resources needed to buy one. 
You need to do some work by yourself before God steps in and deems you worthy of his help because he isn't going to hand everything to you on a platter of gold.
He will give you what you need and you will figure out how to use that to your advantage to get to your required destination. In the case of a car, he would maybe give you (for instance) a job interview to help you save money for a car. Something along the lines of that, but you still have to put in the work for yourself and help yourself.


Kind of like how my Mum won't give me all the answers to my math homework if I ask her. She might give me hints so that I can work it out on my own, but she will never give me all the answers because that means I will never learn from that. I will not know how I came to the conclusion of the answer on the math homework, I will only know the answers, which is silly because when I take a test, I won't know the method of how to work out those sums.


So, yes God only helps those who learn to help themselves. Because he's not going to spoil everyone by handing them everything they pray for :)

I really like this song and I'm proud to be a Christian but this song is a little confusing can someone please explain to me what its talking about...like "God only helps those who learn to help themselves"? im a bit confused lol

I think the song is not mainly about god, because he wrote it for his grandfather, and not as some kind of a christian (or whatever religion) lesson. I have a friend who is buddhist and he always says "we're rich, because we're healthy", even if  he has no money left for the rest of the month. I think thats kind of how this statement should tell you that nothing can happen without you making it happen. So if you just wait for god to solve your problem, it's not going to happen. But if you try to solve your problem yourself, he will help you solving it. But you have to start it. I think thats basically what it wants to tell you, and not that you should think god is not going to help you if you don't do everything yourself. He wants us to do our own thing, because if he wanted to help us with everything, he wouldn't made us able to do anything else than praying.
