Old Crow Medicine Show - O Cumberland River Lyrics
Built a little shanty by the Cumberland River
But the rainstorm started and the water did rise
Wildcat winds and ten foot rollers lordy
Bless my soul, it was a hell of a ride
Eyes popped open I was laying on the levy
Smallmouth jumping I'm rolling up something
Gonna throw a little high water party tonight
O Cumberland River
Flowing through the heart of a guitar town
O Cumberland River
Can't you hear me singing your song
Can't you hear me singing your song
John boat plowing up the deep green water
Five string floating in the Tennessee sun
Always sounds a little muddy when we pick it down here
She runs wild, fast and free
Born in the mountains up in Kentucky
Heading for the falls of the Ohio
Asking me darling, don't you wanna go?
O Cumberland River
Flowing through the heart of a guitar town
O Cumberland River
Can't you hear me singing your song
Can't you hear me singing your song
Bonfire burning on the banks of the river
All the girls come running when they smell the fish fry
Barefoot dancing when we dip into the water
I'll be loving this river 'til the day I die
Locks and dams weren't made to last
There's nothing we can build to ever hold her back
She can't be held by the hands of man
The Cumberland River is gonna rise again
O Cumberland River
Flowing through the heart of a guitar town
O Cumberland River
Can't you hear me singing your song
Can't you hear me singing your song

P.S. THAT GRUMPYS SHOW WAS AMAZING GREAT TO MEET YOU GUYS!
had no idea OCMS existed till the other day. better late than never!
So glad to live in middle Tennessee
Whenever I hear the opening I think of Confederate soldiers marching through the Tennessee hills. Beautiful part of the country is tennesse
live is the only way to hear this
I'm from Philadelphia but I grew up in florida...I play drums and bass but fear ill never get to do a project with some good old timey soul like this
Wish you were closer to Pittsburgh. I feel the same way in Eastern Ohio
The Whole damn album is good. Love this shit. Keep em coming
Jason Aldean is so much better than this......NOT!
What's the meaning of the album cover?
It's the Tennessee state flag...
The State Flag Of Tennessee.
Every time I listen to this song, I feel like I'm back home in the South sippin' moonshine and smoking a hog. The North is some lame shit.
Every time I listen to this song, I feel like I'm back home in the North drinkin' beer and grilling venison. The South is the same shit.😁
Proud to have these guys calling my hometown home! Seen them more than I can count because they are always playing the Grand Ol' Opry. Not to mention Old Crow New Years Eve at the Ryman! keep rocking boys! NASHVILLE LOVES YOU!
When I tell people I like southern music, this is definitely not what they imagine. Which is a damn shame
First saw and heard them on the Marty Stuart Show. Made a believer out of me. Bands like this and Flatt Lonesome and The Ruhks will keep great music alive. Thank God!
John Hedges try Reverend Payton and the big damn band the blues still lives
Sadly, music like this Is so unappreciated.
this is a knee slapper here boy i tell ya what!!!!!
I love this! Way better than the country you hear on the radio nowadays
country music past the mid 90s sucks...blueegrass/folk all day beats country in any time period
Every body has their preference! No one is forcing you to listen. Opinions differ. Enjoy what you enjoy. Be positive my friend
nothin against snake oilsalesmen. they got some good shit. but just to be polight, is it me or is it not hard to get away from these charlatans?
Best damn country music East of Texas! Why can't all Tennessee country sound like this?
James Peinado Because our ancestors created Bluegrass, that’s what this is, bluegrass mixed with country
GREAT GREAT
sublime
The Cumberland River flows into my home town of Clarksville Tennessee to Nashville Tennessee
damn good song
have there new album on replay right now!!!
Check out my cover of Wagon Wheel by Old Crow Medicine Show if you get a chance! Any likes/shares/subscribes would be amazing! Thanks a lot
Does this make anybody else think of the TV show Hell on Wheels?
+Kyky Budd no shut up
god bless Peter haha
If this is what mainstream country sounded like, people wouldn't hate the genre.
They may not like it but it would definitely be respected unlike current mainstream country.
True country music/Roots music will always be alive.
Modern Country is Hillbilly Hiphop. No soul. over produced, and talentless.
It would be better if this is what main stream country sounded like
I think it's best that we keep it our little secret. Although it would be nice for this stuff to be as popular as it deserves to be, the same thing would happen to it that happened to the greatest rock bands of all time. It'd be overplayed on the radio so much that we'd get annoyed by it eventually. Or at least I would.
First time hearing this song. very catchy. I have definitely been missing out.
Bass player is on steroids.
I've tried turning my old bass player on to this but we used to play in a hardcore band together...I don't think he understands just how hard you can still whail in old Timey music either
Crazy hormonica after bernin 5 banks of the river
@nick fonville Sounds like a train blowin through!!
Seen them at Summertown,Tn. Years ago. Awesome show!
I see them at Penn's Peak PA every year or so
Pop country ain't got shit
Ain't that the goddamn truth?!
jeremiah breeden Pop county isn't real country

This comment pisses me off its good but anything with a beat is real music you idiot.
Who said the contrary? Stop being emotional dude
If youtube comments hurt you so much I bet the real world is one scary fuckin' place.
Another fantastic song.
