Old Crow Medicine Show - Lonesome Road Blues Lyrics

I walk down that lonesome line
Hung down my head I cry
I wept I cried under the willow tree
About the deep blue sea

My mama my dead papa
Can be found
And my brother
On the county road

Now I've been down that long plank walk
I'm on my way back home
You cause me to weep you did cause me to mourn
You cause me to leave my home

Your fast mail train coming round the track
Come kill my little blue-eyed girl
They took her down that smoky track
Brought her back on that cooling board

I'm looking down that long tunnel light
Just as far as I care to see
I have no money lost my blue-eyed girl
These blues won't set me free

You did cause me to weep you did cause me to mourn
You cause me to leave my home
I cried last night and the night before
I swore not to cry anymore

was born in 1887, his stomping ground the Mississippi-Louisiana border region with a style similar to King Solomon Hill and Ramblin Thomas who were from the same region. Collins’ music draws from the era of minstrel and medicine show tradition reflected in songs like ‘Yellow Dog Blues”, “Salty Dog”, “Hesitation Blue’ and the first recorded version of “The Midnight Special.” His masterpieces, “Lonesome Road Blues” was a version of “In The Pines” which dates back to the

    @Lazairus

Thanks, I've been looking for an older version of this song. OCMS credits it as "Traditional" so it's possible even Sam Collins was "covering" it, his is just the earliest recorded version.

  30. K.... P....

@prittysaro OCMS and many other groups are crossing genres and mixing them as well.
A term I've heard used for OCMS, Johnson Family Band, Trampled By Turtles, etc... is Cow Punk.
    I think it fits.

    K.... P....

    Keith Peterson lmao

  31. C.... H....

this is a cover of a original song by sam collins, period.

  34. l.... ....

I wonder if that tinny sound in the recording was intentional, it very well could be, knowing how OCMS likes to do things down home style. A wonderful song!

  35. C.... H....

    woah hey now. no.
