Old 97's - Nineteen Lyrics

Nineteen
Is not the age of reason
I didn't have a reason
For settin' you free

I've seen
A lot of love go sour
But that's not our love
You see the problem was

I was only nineteen

Yeah, I was only nineteen
I finished up with high school
Headed for a state school
Wandered into you

Big screen
Kissin' in a movie
God, you moved me around
We got seriously down

But I was only nineteen

All I ever wanted to do
Was lie around in bed with you
I was only nineteen
I was only nineteen
I was only nineteen
I was only nineteen
Watch me now

I've seen
A lot of love go bad now
That's not how our affair
Would've wound up I swear

But I was only nineteen
All I ever wanted to do
Was lie around in bed with you
I was only nineteen
I was only nineteen
I was only nineteen
I was only nineteen
I was only nineteen
I was only nineteen
I was only nineteen
I was only nineteen
I was only nineteen

Old 97's Nineteen Comments
  1. J.... J....

I wish they would not have played this song on letterman..so many better ones...this album wasnt there best..it was super poppy and clean...but still...

  2. D.... R....

Holy shit they look so young!! Wack

  3. J.... ....

    Rhett looks so weird

  4. Q.... ....

That hair though, and Murry looks so young here in comparison to now.

    Q.... ....

20 years on the road will do that to a man.

  5. 1.... ....

Being 19 this makes it this song so incredible

    1.... ....

I was once 19 too. And now I'm quite a bit older. And I'm just now appreciating this band. And this song in particular.

  6. G.... L....

Great rock. Even though it took me to 2017 to find them. Thanks Nikki Lane.

  7. M.... N....

Really some of your songs! There is potential, this song says it. There's so much more to come rom you I know & I look forward to it!

  8. L.... L....

So mad I'm only finding this five days before I turn 20

    L.... L....

logged in only to say - same here. three days away from turning 20 dammit!

  9. R.... N....

This is a really, really cool band!

  10. t.... ....

Loved the whole thing until they showed the Twin Towers at the end. 1999 seems like 100 years ago in a weird way.

Man, they looked so young. Rhett was in his late-twenties at this point, and he really looked 19. He's in his mid-forties now and looks at least decade younger. I'll have what he's having.

    t.... ....

Believe this is detailed on Longer Than You've Been Alive:
    there has been alcohol
oceans and oceans but that isn't all
mountains of weed a handful of pills
none of the hard stuff that shit kills

    t.... ....

And, as seen in Let's Get Drunk And Get It On,
    Rhett gets hammered before noon

    And
Ken drinks coffee and eats breakfast burritos while skateboarding between his two houses
    Murray is narcoleptic
Phillip eats untoasted English muffins in the shower

  11. B.... S....

Wow. I feel really old now. I was 29 then.

  12. T.... B....

What's funny is Rhett looks about 17 here, singing "I was only 19."

  13. k.... a....

    (o: Y A Y :o)

  14. s.... ....

Wow, they were all so young!!

  15. a.... g....

    aww so young

  16. S.... ....

Love this!  So weird to see them all with those Beatles mop tops!

  17. o.... ....

Great performance.    See the problem was, I was only nineteen.

  18. S.... H....

LOVE this song! It's so radio-friendly. Always confused as to why they aren't the biggest band in the world.

    S.... H....

    Cool sounds.

    S.... H....

    Exactly

    S.... H....

Second that. This album had at least 3 pop-ish pieces that criminally never found radio play. Then again, had they done so, would we have missed all of Rhett's greatness that followed? Stevie Ray Vaughn isn't associated much with Oak Cliff, but Mr Miller's legacy as a Dallas icon will outlive the band by a decades.

    S.... H....

Back when KLLC was awesome, it played the hell out of "Nineteen" and "Murder (or a Heart Attack)."
