Oh, Sleeper - We Are The Archers Lyrics

We watched them fall. Eyes locked to mine, feeling as if I had let them down.
Caught blinded by silk, led by lips to the baited chains. Now look around regret.
As the axe swings before your eyes, think how everyday we spent dreaming.
Never once did we pick up the sword and learn to fight.
Now is the time. Pick yourself up and fight.
Learn to swing. Learn to swing.
They watched me fall for the last time, but how is such an elegant blade to be stopped?
When in times where eyes set sites to cross-hair the weak.
My bride, I'll try, oh so hard, to find that Light. But in his mind she baits me to fire.
What a cunning foe we've met! Our horizons pushed pages away to a new fight,
A new method, new plan. But how do I train? How do you ready a child for war?
Oh what a cunning foe we've met!
The Captain, what will He send? I know He will send, but what will be sent?
I can feel a slip. A buzzard scrapes nearby, as I atop this hill, stand and scream.
It's all I can do to control my gaze from the curiosity of seeing myself as prey.
And then I heard an armored march. I heard an armored march that shook the trees.
Bows bent as they sang, "WE ARE THE ARCHERS!"

  16. C.... ....

    Jesus is my friend. Jesus is my king. Not a being way up in the sky, distant and disconnected. He is in my heart. He effects my life day to day. It's not a list of rules. It's more than that.

    C.... ....

    Awesome way to put it man.

  17. A.... B....

    Relationship with god through Christ

  18. A.... B....

    Religion is just rules and regulations
    Christianity is a relationship with god

  19. A.... B....

    I'm tired of people calling Christianity a religion they're two different thing

    A.... B....

    @jacobjedi2 that is religion

    A.... B....

    @jacobjedi2 Dude, serious? Assuming all that stuff actually happened (this isn't the time or place for "this is real" "no it isn't!") I can tell you now that 90% of Christians follow the religion out of fear of Hell. The threat of eternal torture is a pretty big one. If you actually read the Bible, among the odd storey that seeks to teach morals, all you will find is a tremendous list of, at times, contradictory rules and regulations, some of which aren't just illogical, but just plain bizarre. This "omnipotent" God of yours did not need to come to Earth to die for us. He's supposed to be omnipotent... Also, many, many people were crucified, and though I have not experienced it myself and am sure the pain would be immense, I can also assure that there have been many much more painful deaths. What he supposedly did (again, it's not the place to get into that and it would just end up a clash of beliefs) wasn't really necessary and didn't really do anything. If god were omnipotent then he could make us all obey him, he could make us enjoy obeying him. I know, there's the whole "freedom of choice" spiel, but when your options are being forced to enjoy obeying someone, or being given the choice of obeying them (but not necessarily enjoying what that entails) or else being sent to eternal torture (it's not much of a choice at all really), I know which one I'd choose.

    A.... B....

    It matters very little what "other Christians" do. We can't compare ourselves to others because that's not what God does. He looks at each person individually.

    That being said, fear of hell is PART of salvation, yes. However, we should love God not because we fear hell but because we love Him. Fear of hell is only prior to salvation, but fear of hell should not be the only thing we realize prior. It should also be a realization that your Creator loves you so much that He sent His Son to take your place so you could be with Him into eternity.

    One thing you should know is that there are no actual contradictions in the Bible. Skeptics will nitpick but they cannot find a single passage that genuinely contradicts another passage.

    God COULD have just said, "Eh, I think I'll save all of humankind from their sinful state." The problem is that He is also a righteous and just God in addition to being omnipotent, and He is good. What good judge just lets a person go free when they've committed atrocious crimes? He devised the plan that Jesus would die in our place and rise again so that both His justice and His grace could be enacted. When Jesus rose again, He defeated death itself and sealed the eternal death warrant for Satan.

    The reason He didn't just immediately wipe out all of the sinfulness right afterwards is because He wants as many to accept His love and enter salvation as possible. He gives us free will, to choose to live a temporary life for Him and enter eternal life WITH Him or to choose to live a life for yourself and then spend eternity separated from Him. That's little different than, for example, you choosing to eat. You have a simple choice: will I eat, or will I let myself starve? It's little different than the concept of salvation, except for the fact that salvation requires none of our acts. We only have to accept His forgiveness and grace and invite Him to save us, and then He will begin transforming us into His image so that one day, we will all be like Him characteristically AND physically due to our glorified bodies we will have in the end.

    God is a loving Father, not a slavemaster. That is why He gives us free will: He doesn't want a false love and lack of desire for Him, but rather, He wants us to love Him and desire Him. He is omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent; completely just and completely merciful. As the heavens are higher than us, so too are His ways higher than our ways. Not everything He does will make sense to us in our limited mortal minds but in the end, all shall be revealed.

    A.... B....

    It's most Christians, though, and in this life, things are defined by the majority. Actually, most Christians actually just say that they're Christians and do nothing to actually follow the religion apart from that. That's because they don't actually give two shits about God but a simple step towards potentially saving from eternal suffering probably helps them sleep at night.

    Even if the Christian god is real, we have no reason to love him. In fact, if he is real, I straight up hate him. It's said that he created us, and so as our creator, he would have certain responsibilities to us that he hasn't met. There is a tremendous amount of suffering in the world, and if he is real, then all of that is on him. I did not ask to be created, and if I had the choice I would decline.

    There are many straight up contradictions in the Bible, and there is no denying it. Here is an entire webpage dedicated to pointing out contradictions complete with quotes, rebuttals and more: http://infidels.org/library/modern/jim_meritt/bible-contradictions.html

    You say that god could have just decided to forgive "our sins" (apparently we're born already having sinned? I'm not responsible for the actions of my ancestors so that's really bullshit, the only reason it is mandatory that we all have sinned is because it is literally impossible to follow the Bible to the letter), but instead he created someone who died "for us". Symbolically I'm sure this is good and all, but unless I'm lacking in some knowledge about this, it doesn't actually do anything that affects us. This is exactly the same as god just saying that he would save us from our "sinful state", except someone suffered more for it. All I can see from this is a sense of sadism on god's behalf. If all could be solved without this suffering (which his supposed omnipotent state would suggest is possible), then there is no reason it shouldn't have been done.
    What judge kills someone else as a way of a criminal atoning for what they did? I assure you, the criminal could probably care less, but if one of the parts of the deal was that they show gratefulness for what happened, they will do it.

    The only possible explanation for him not wiping out sin and making us worship him is an intense vanity. Not a good trait in a ruler/lord/creator.

    A happy slave is better of than a freed person in pain. We're basically just unhappy slaves, because, like a normal slave, we can choose to not follow our masters orders, but we will be met with severe punishment.

    A.... B....

    @Secret Reptoid am I afraid of hell, uh hell yeah lol but that's not the reason I'm Christian! I've realized from searching for so many things that I can no longer live without good, it's just so empty. In Christ we find strength. In Christ we find peace and meryband love. And to go back to the hell thing. I deserve hell, and Id accept that fate but guess what? because of the sacrifice Christ gave I am free from.the Gates of hell

  20. W.... L....

    Oh, Sleepers best work.

  21. M.... ....

    Seeing tonight! So stoked!

  22. c.... s....

    Just saw these guys live at vans warptour!

  23. J.... A....

    They. Are. Awwweeeessommme! I saw them before SOTM came out... Epic. Cool guys, they signed my Bible :D

  24. x.... ....

    They are a band to see in person!!

  25. b.... s....

    amazing!

  26. a.... ....

    been so long since i heard this song and watched this video ahh... memories hehe, come to think of it this style of video reminds me of another band i love - norma jean - bayonetwork

  27. S.... ....

    I like this version better than the album version. More intense and edgy.

  28. s.... ....

    I'm the kid in the video xD

  29. C.... ....

    See them at the smallest possible venue! I've seen them twice, once large and once small, and Micah was moshig with us at the small one!

  30. C.... P....

    I seem them with underoath, as I lay dying, and spitfire... it was epic. They stole the show.

  31. A.... B....

    You are so lucky! I can only imagine how awesome it was. ;)

  32. A.... B....

    Seeing them just once would feel like heaven to me, but of course I'd love to see them many, many other times after that.

  33. C.... L....

    Just one day?

  34. C.... ....

    i saw them last year when they came to QLD, AUSTRALIA
    sooo good!

  35. t.... ....

    They are even better live, especially the vocalist.

  36. K.... T....

    Look. We all know what you're trying to do here. But fire and brimstone preaching doesn't really work. Especially over the internet. Also, the caps lock key is not your friend.

  37. O.... R....

    Don't we all?

  38. L.... ....

    Schecter's are extremely heavy. Ibanez is really light though. The Ibanez S series is the lightest and smoothest guitar you'll ever play.

  39. T.... R....

    I believe it's because of the weight difference. Gibsons tend to be fairly heavy compared to Ibanez and Schecters. The lighter the guitar, the easier it is to handle on stage.

  40. E.... ....

    Ha seeing these guys in a week! Stoked as ever! Fave Band

  41. A.... B....

    I so want to see Oh, Sleeper live one day! :D

  42. T.... B....

    EXACTLY. He wants relationship, not religion. Religion is sending more people to hell than anything else because people think if they're just religious, they're safe frrom hell. Religion is good and will come if you have a relationship but make a relationship first, guys...

  43. 1.... ....

    the idea that God hates religion comes from christianity which is similar to what Jews believe but still very different same God but for Jews Jesus is out of the picture and
    they are still waiting for a messiah

  44. 1.... ....

    the idea of christians hating religion is the idea that being a christian means to have a relationship with God its not about following rules

  45. L.... L....

    Jesus is the founder of the "Glorious religion" we call Christianity. It's in the Bible, so I don't think God hates religion. Only those that don't truly believe in Him.

  46. E.... S....

    @TheOneWhoHeldTrue Amen

  47. S.... ....

    @ByFaith747 hah! good obs..maybe because of sponsorships...but there's also no denying ibanez and schecter are the slickest playing basses and guitars!

  48. M.... R....

    @kmorgan513 my point jus cause ur not jew or from a christian family doesn't mean u can't make an impact...being chosen is not something u parade around telling everyone...its something u keep between God and u...sadly a lot of Christians and Jews do this n make all the others feel as though as they are not chosen but that is a lie...once ur in the kingdom of God...God wants to use u...no ifs ands or buts...

  49. M.... R....

    @kmorgan513 yes Jews are God's chosen ppl but so are u lol...we all are chosen by God even before we were in our mother's womb Jer 1:5...He has had a plan for your life even b4 u were born...A lot of ppl die not fulfilling their destinies bc they have allowed ppl to tell them lies or they doubted God's Word or they doubted themselves etc....dont be one of those ppl...who cares who is chosen n who isn't...im not a pastor's son or a deacon's child...my family has no ties with the church...

  50. C.... ....

    @darkking271
    as an actual part of the religion and used against christianity.

  51. C.... ....

    @Darkking271
    drinking was just an example. Lots of religious people say that it's completely wrong, whereas it's just something that can be used wrong or abused, like sex. People have to decide for themselves what they think of as religion, because I disagree with you that God is religion. What I said before is that God hates what religion has become in many instances, not that he hates the general practice of worshiping him, but putting up 'blocks' that are then taken in

  52. A.... V....

    @ChristianMetal55 well drinking leads to all sorts of thinks that are of sin, like violence, murder, i disagree that god hates religion, but some people have become too religious that God isnt part of the equation anymore

  53. A.... V....

    @ChristianMetal55 how does god hate religion if he is religion

  54. D.... ....

    I miss old Oh, Sleeper.

  55. C.... ....

    @kmorgan513
    Non-christians who regularly drink, may not become christians because religion says that drinking is wrong and they don't want to give it up. In some churches their religion says that women have to wear dresses all of the time. Who would want to convert to that? That's why God hates religion. I'm not completely sure if I covered your question to @theonewhoheldtrue or not, but if I didn't you can ask it differently if you want :)

  56. C.... ....

    @kmorgan513
    religion doesn't ncessarily have anything to do with the jews. God hates what religion has BECOME. There are lots of things that religion has stated that aren't of God. An example of that would be that religion often states that drinking alcoholic beverages is a sin, whereas God (through the bible) has never aid that it's wrong, and has even stated that it's ok sometimes. So, religion has become a stumbling block.

  57. C.... ....

    @rb12321
    I'm not here to argue, so 'cheers!'

  58. r.... ....

    @ChristianMetal55 I am a kind and selfless person, but I am also aware enough to know that ignorance is the only certainty contained within our bodily vessels. We are restricted for a reason: We are not yet supposed to know answers to the "big questions". Therefore, I accept that I do not and will not know for now, and I do not believe I will be punished for it. You should read Plato's "The Republic". This fellow has found the closest answers we can possibly have right now. Cheers.

  59. r.... ....

    @ChristianMetal55 If there is a God, or many (which is also plausible), it would understand that a species created in its likeness would be complex and powerful enough to question. Not only should questioning and doubts be accepted, but I believe they would be respected, for this shows that our knowledge and free will has progressed significantly. Either way, I know that if I do the right things, it doesn't matter what I believe in, because I am a prime example of what humans should be.

  60. r.... ....

    @ChristianMetal55 You're certainly a logical person. First, however, I never said God wasn't real, nor have I denied anything about heaven or hell. The Bible has many rights as well as wrongs. I'm not going to pick out and analyze each story, because it is pointless. Christianity is plausible, but so are countless other religious claims. For someone to claim that their answer is the MOST plausible is, in fact, ignorant, for without certainty there are only claims.

  61. C.... ....

    @rb12321
    This isn't a challenge, I'm just answering your questions:
    The reason that he has to test us is because he gave us a free will. With a free will a lot of people need to be tested. Believe me, we christians aren't perfect, and without tests we're not as faithful.
    Now then, the bible has actually been quite accurate according to physics. The book 'the creator and the cosmos' is all about this. The bible has stated facts that were not possible to prove until now. You should read the book.

  62. C.... ....

    @rb12321
    Several questions: If God isn't real then whose puppets are we supposed to be? If we're just ignorant children with futile and pointless arguments, then why are we important for you to 'progress'? Isn't it more ignorant to deny the possibility that there's an afterlife that will be terrible if you're wrong about there being no God than to believe in the possibility and go with the most plausible answer -- Christianity. This is what their song 'shed your soul' is about. God bless.

  63. r.... ....

    NONE of you people know whether or not God is real. Your arguments are both pointless and futile. You'll learn one day, children. The only answer is to accept your ignorance, and seek truths that are certain. We will never progress until you puppets stop trying to cling onto false beliefs. I pity you all.

  64. r.... ....

    @ParkwayDrive2012 Why would he test such complex beings that he made in his likeness? It seems as though he would expect us to lose faith as we evolve. Now that we are of much higher knowledge, the Bible isn't anymore believable than children's tales. I believe there are higher powers out there, but not what any of these religious folk believe. I trust that such a higher being would respect my ability to question and seek truth. It's just so simple if you really think.

  65. r.... ....

    @jephll Shut up.

  66. G.... F....

    @KarnaK74 i feel like god not answering prayers is a way of testing your faith in him, to see if even though things dont go your way if youll still have faith in him.

  67. J.... C....

    LIKE IF YOUR FROM FT WORTH!!!!!

  68. J.... C....

    @ByFaith747 because its cheap as shit and then they get that moolah for better equip..

  69. D.... K....

    God doesn´t answer prayers because he does not exist.

  70. b.... s....

    God doesnt answer prayers because hes not one sided. he lets all of mans free will play itself out. i dont beleive he has a plan at all, hes just watching us like a tv and seeing whose cool and whos not. OH SLEEPER easily takes the first place prize then chuck norris.

  71. J.... T....

    @CropDuster33 Prayers don't get answered? hmmmm strange

  72. A.... D....

    @liquidmetal93 it was the comment you made a while back and i thought you were bashing christianity, you said "jesus isnt a loser" but i wasnt paying attention my mistake haha

  73. A.... D....

    @liquidmetal93 im really sorry bor i misread comment you made hahah my bad

  74. A.... D....

    @liquidmetal93 man if you dont believe in christianity than thats fine but dont come on here to argue and insult christians keep your opinions to yourself. Thanks

  75. A.... D....

    @CropDuster33 dont bash religion bro if you dont believe it thats fine but you dont need to offend people who may

  76. D.... B....

    @Britton529 Mo their still with Jackson. I just said schecter and Ibanez because thats mostly what I see most bands play. I myself prefer Jackson.

  77. B.... ....

    @ByFaith747 When did they switch from Jackson? Thats all they have in the newer videos. Or am I just way behind?

  78. o.... ....

    @ByFaith747 I find the opposite. I find bands start with metal guitars then go to Gibsons because they're better.

  79. h.... ....

    @Cmase9401 this isnt from "When I Am God", this video was made for the EP called "The Armored March" that was released in 2006.
    But i understand that recent fans might not even know about it, they decided to re-record the song for the "When I AM God" album, because its that good, anyway this isnt live as you suggest in your comment, it is "studio done"

  80. t.... ....

    @ByFaith747 that's because they get stuff for free, and have to play it live. but yeah, i'd take free stuff too!!

  81. M.... G....

    @azureabsol No jesus uses a Zune.....duh!!

  82. I.... P....

    azureabsol Jesus would not own an apple product.

  83. C.... M....

    @sauronsmouth81 This isn't even studio done lol. Listen to the song straight from When I Am God. 10x better.

  84. g.... ....

    @TheOneWhoHeldTrue How do you know what "god" thinks. lol I can use my imagination too!

  85. D.... B....

    Anyone notice that most hardcore bands start off with Gibson les pauls then evolve to ibanez or schecter?

  86. D.... ....

    I miss old Oh, Sleeper....

  87. Z.... L....

    praise GOD!

  88. B.... G....

    You guys aren't the only ones who hate religion... God hates religion, too!
