scott Stanford in my opinion, I believe it's about someone who is accepted, honestly and fully but someone else, it could be a lover or a friend. When Nana(or anyone in particular) sings "because you colour me clear." I believe it's her way of saying someone can see right through her, and see her for who she truly is and is okay worth who she is. The "what are you waiting for." Part is her asking said person, to be in her life, and that if they really want to be apart of her life that they'll "find her in the backyard." Which could a metaphor about a place where you feel most comfortable.

That's what I get from this song anyways, feel free to interoperate it how you want.
