I didn't realize this was John Lennon's original song, then later done by the Beatles in 1995, and now blessed with this version by Tom. Each time I hear this song it gets more beautiful.

The original song is much better than this cover.

This song was written by John Lennon but he never recorded it in the studio. Paul, George and Ringo used his cassette version and embellished it. Lennon wrote it in the late 70s. When he released Double Fantasy in 1980 this song wasn't included. He'd either forgotten about it or had other plans for it. I quite enjoy hearing so many covers of the track including this one and many others, like Regina Spektor's version. There's an irony in there somehow that one of Lennon's best solo songs was a song that came from a crappy cassette recorder. I think others might concur about another of his cassette tape songs, Grow Old Along With Me. I've missed John Lennon so long. Like the kid delivering in papers in the song Bye Bye Miss American Pie, I delivered papers that day in December 1980 with John's face plastered all over the front pages. Didn't really know who he was at the time. But what a legend. Anyway, I am the Walrus. Goo Goo Ga Joob.
