I couldn't agree more under normal circumstances - however, I refuse to abide the lesser of two evils. Clinton's ego, and the collective ego of her party, are just as much to blame as those fools with enough of a victim complex to actually vote for Trump. If this country can't learn this lesson, that they will keep spoon feeding us the same Neo-con Vs. I was 12 when Richard Nixon was elected President.  I was 18 - and draft age - when he was deposed. I remember this song as the greatest protest against political protest ever.  Phil Ochs is one of my favorite folkies.

Refresh my memory.  Weren't we already out of Vietnam when he resigned? (He wasn't deposed.) Hadn't the draft been ended? The war continued for a bit, of course, but without us. Saigon fell on or about my 19th birthday, but we had been officially out of the war for some time.

Obama's pulled some crap in his time, but Bush with his PATRIOT act and secret wiretapping set the precedent for violating Americans' right to privacy.

I'd have agreed with you, LordOrlock, if only you hadn't stuck in that plug for Carter, of all people. Maybe he didn't get us into any wars, but then neither did Nixon. He inherited one. Carter was the worst, ever. 

Carter was may have had his issues but he was probably the most honest president we've had. Republicans made his tenure miserable but at least he wasn't an immoral, corrupt, greedy bastard like most of the politicians we elect.

But he's not a pro-lifer. That's terrible.

As horrible as Nixon was he was more concerned with working people far more than Obama or Clinton. I think changing Obama for Nixon and the song is as appropriate now as it was 40 years ago. God help us!

This brings back memories:I first heard Phil make this change to the lyrics of "Here's to the State of Mississippi" at a Vietnam protest in Washington in the Spring of 1970. Phil Ochs always fought the good fight, and great honor is due to his memory. As for Richard Nixon, may he rot in Hell. I'm sure that, in the last month, he's had to move over to make room for Margaret Thatcher.

Well, it was actually Khrushchev who solved the Cuban missile crisis, and Kennedy attacked as many countries as Bush did. Anything about the Gore administration is obviously speculative, but he was firmly on the corporate right wing of the Democratic Party, so..
