Oak Ridge Boys, The - Standin' By The River Lyrics

Now when me and Ginny were sweet sixteen
We’d go down to the river at night.
Take a brand new penny make a wish and then
Throw it into the river wide.
She would never tell me what she wished
I never told her mine, standin’ by the river.
We were standin’ by the river
Holding to each other
Dreamin’ bout the other side.

Well now we got married and we moved away
Had to leave the easy world behind
But we took whatever God carried our way
Made the best out of the hardest times
I would hold her in my arms at night
Dreamin’ of the times standin’ by the river.
We were standin’ by the river
Holding to each other
Dreamin’ bout the other side.

We were just like that old river
Saw a lot of things come and go
But the love we had for one another
Kept on flowing.

Now I’ve still got my Ginny, it’s been twelve years
And we’re back upon the riverbank
Gonna throw me a penny in the river again
Gonna say a little word of thanks.
God I hope her every wish came true
I know I got mine, standin’ by the river
We were standin’ by the river
Holding to each other
Dreamin’ bout the other side.
We were standin’ by the river
Holding to each other
Dreamin’ bout the other side.
Yer –
Standin’ by the river, Standin’ by the river,
Standin’ by the river.

Oak Ridge Boys, The Standin' By The River Comments
  1. J.... G....

I ain't gonna ride no rail or hitchhike down no highway
I ain't going nowhere feeling the way I do
Because my baby's long gone and nothings going my way
I'm gonna let this muddy water just wash away my blues.
Gonna take a lot of river,
To keep this broken heart afloat,
Gonna take a lot of river
Running all the live long days,
Gonna take the Mississippi, the Monongahela and the Ohio,
Gonna take a lot of river
    To wash these blues away.
Well, I wish I was tug boat pushing and pulling them barges along
Moving on the water with a heart made of iron and steel
There wouldn't be no women that could ever take my loving and do me wrong
I could work all day with nothing in the world to feel.
Gonna take a lot of river
To keep this broken heart afloat
Gonna take a lot of river
Running all the live long days
Gonna take the Mississippi, the Monongahela and the Ohio
Gonna take a lot of river
    To wash these blues away.
    Is she in New Orleans
    Is she a cajun queen
I wonder what she's doing now
But if I know her she's got rings and furs, struggling along somehow.
Gonna take a lot of river
To keep this broken heart afloat
Gonna take a lot of river
Running all the live long days
Gonna take the Mississippi, the Monongahela and the Ohio
Gonna take a lot of river
    To wash these blues away.
Gonna take a lot of river
To keep this broken heart afloat
Gonna take a lot of river
Running all the live long days
Gonna take the Mississippi, the Monongahela and the Ohio
Gonna take a lot of river
    To wash these blues away

  9. J.... O....

It was on this day 21 years ago (June 10th) that the late beautiful precious leader of this song went forward, I love him SO much!!!
God bless those who have loved him longer than me always!!!
Holly in East Tennessee (forever wishing still that I had discovered him sooner)

    J.... O....

Yeah, he was my favorite in the band. When he left the Oak Ridge Boys, I was so sad because he was the main reason I loved them so much. When he passed, was one of the saddest days of my life. He was a great entertainer and born to be a performer.

  10. S.... S....

Charles sent me this wow absolutely amazing

  11. K.... ....

YEAH THROW THAT GAY FUCKER IN THE RIVER👍

    K.... ....

To me, the lead singer in this video should've been the last man standing, but sadly the three stooges just had to do their part in making sure that his pistol was painted to look like a gourmet feast, didn't they. (obviously grief stricken still)
God bless you and those who have loved him longer than me always!!!
Holly in East Tennessee (forever wishing still that I had discovered him sooner)

  12. A.... K....

    RIP Steve Sanders...

    A.... K....

His beautiful and precious voice will continue to be played as long as I am still around, I love him SO much!!!

Holly in East Tennessee (forever wishing that I had discovered him sooner)

  15. M.... M....

it's a real shame that boy killed himself after The Oak Ridge Boys let him go

    M.... M....

Yeah, that probably really hurt him.

    M.... M....

I've been a fan of Steve for almost two years now and from what I have gathered, all that the other members did was kick him when he was already on the ground thanks to certain members of his family. With friends like that, you only wonder what your enemies may have in store for your butt, may his memory forever haunt the bore some four some, they make me want to barf something that I ate a year ago!!! (forever disgusted by them)
God bless you and those who have loved Steve longer than me always!!!
Holly in East Tennessee (forever wishing that I had discovered him sooner)

  16. P.... A....

Steve Saunders was a great singer and he is sorely missed. RIP Steve.

    P.... A....

Love the ORBs. Going to see them tonight in P'burg, Ky at the Mtn Arts Center. Going to be an Awwwsome concert!!

    P.... A....

No one misses him like I do and its because of how late I was in becoming a fan of him.
God bless you and those who have loved him longer than me always!!!
Holly in East Tennessee (age 6 when this song was released and forever wishing that I'd discovered him sooner)
P.S. His last name is Sanders, not Saunders.

  17. N.... L....

The Oak Ridge Boys had some good stuff.

  21. E.... P....

I forgot the 80's were awesome. I wish I could go back to 1980 and start it all over again. Now of course I would change a thing or two but that would be all. Loved those 80's. ( MTV, LET'S DON'T FORGET THOSE LATE NIGHT AROBICS -GIRLS- I NEVER REALLY UNDERSTOOD THAT.) OH THE GREAT T.V. SHOWS.

  22. E.... P....

I have no idea why Steve left the group after a 10 years. I remember when William left for a while then came back. I never really understood that. But groups have there ups and downs. I would like to think there was good reason for the switch. However the Oaks are still a great group. I didn't know that Steve Sanders committed suicide. That is very sad. Seriously. I myself would love to be back in a group and on the road again.

    E.... P....

Sadly Steve was only in the open spot for eight years and in my opinion, his leaving never should've happened in the first place and I am not just saying that because of him being my favorite. I have read that Steve had other plans when William Lee's spot became available. The favor that was done by my favorite for the other three members didn't have to be done, but it was and then when it was my favorite who needed the favor, did the other three return it after Steve helped them stay radio relevant for a few more years? No, which has only left me with this question among so many others: With friends like that, is there any room left over for even one enemy?
God bless you and those who have loved Steve longer than me always!!!
    Holly in East Tennessee

  23. M.... F....

Who's the guy in the mustard colored shirt? Playing guitar? Ty

  24. P.... M....

Who is the nice young guy playing the guitar? He has some moves and more. No one ever gives his name, please help, if you can.

  25. V.... D....

would have fun being with them.

  26. K.... D....

I had forgotten about this song

  27. Z.... F....

Steinbergers and Casios all aglow — oh, what a fun nostalgic ‘80s trip!!! 😁😁😁

  28. A.... T....

    Amazing Bass

  29. E.... W....

What river or lake was this filmed on

    E.... W....

    J Percy Priest Lake IIRC

  30. R.... H....

they weren't the same without William lee.

    R.... H....

To me, the group was only better and its all because of my late beautiful precious Steve Sanders who was not only nice enough to take over for William Lee, but was able to and did score the group their last two #1 songs and their final top ten song. If kicking him to the curb when his personal life became a challenge is how they showed their gratitude, I don't want to know how their contempt for a person is put on display. (wondering what made them think that urinating in his yard would make their grass greener)
    God bless you always!!!
Holly in East Tennessee (forever wishing that I had officially discovered him sooner, I love him SO much!!!)

    R.... H....

Steve Saunders personal life with his wife & failing marriage was starting to take a toll on his professional career with the Oakridge Boys.
I heard Duane & Joe say in an interview on The Nashville Network with Crook & Chase that Steve Saunders was showing up at the shows high, sometimes drunk, he had missed shows because of drugs & alcohol, he was messing up songs during live shows.
I don't blame the Oakridge Boys...I'm sure they gave Steve plenty of chances to get it together...
The Oakridge Boys have a professional image & reputation to keep up.
If I was doing the same thing on my job...my company would get rid of me too!!!
It's sad that a man that talented & famous let a woman bring him to the point of suicide.

    R.... H....

@Randy Miller When exactly was all of this talked about on the Crook and Chase show? Do you remember?
    God bless you always!!!
    Holly in East Tennessee

    R.... H....

It was around 1998...right after William Lee Golden rejoined the Oakridge Boys.
The only reason I remember this is because I had just bought my own truck & become an owner/operator truck driver.
Joe & Duane were more polite & kind with their words than I was...I was just paraphrasing what they said.
I remember when they were talking to Crook & Chase they were more careful with their words, but they were implying what I said.
Joe said the last show they were to do together, Steve didn't show up & they used Duane's son to fill in for Steve.
Duane said they all knew they had a big decision to make after that.
    I remember all of that.

  31. R.... H....

didn't one of them kill themselves?sanders,i believe it was?

    R.... H....

The leader of this song did, yes, and my only question is who drove him into doing it? I ran across his daughter's Face Book page not too long ago and I saw her say that mental illness is to blame for his not being here now. Well before it got deleted from this website, I saw a clip of him on a talk show named Leeza in early 1996 and Steve said on there that his grand children, his daughter's kids that is, may not ever be a part of his life because she didn't want anything more to do with him. Well if she never did come back around to him again, doesn't that just speak volumes!!! (trying my best to not go nuts)
    God bless you always!!!
Holly in East Tennessee (forever wishing that I had officially discovered him sooner, I love him SO much!!!)

    R.... H....

Yes Steve Sanders, the lead on this song, committed suicide in 1998.

  32. J.... O....

Can you believe that its been 20 years now since Steve went forward, June 10th was the day, if only I had discovered him sooner, I love him SO much!!! (burying my head)
God bless you and his family always!!!
    Holly in East Tennesseee

  33. R.... W....

    I had that exact camcorder

  34. J.... W....

What a 👍 song--too bad Steve Sanders isn't with us anymore. I've been seeing these guys in concert since the 1980's, and they haven't lost one little bit of their energy or their talent! Go Oak Ridge Boys!!!

    J.... W....

In my opinion, as long as Steve's material is played, we keep the late beautiful precious here as much as a person in his position can be kept around still. By the way, its been 20 years now since his going forward, if only I had discovered him sooner, I love him SO much!!! (burying my head)
God bless you and his family always!!!
    Holly in East Tennessee

  35. N.... 1....

No offense but you can just tell that Steve is not an Oak Ridge Boy. I don’t care for some of their songs with him in it. He just kinda seems fake and I feel like he kinda changed their sound.

    N.... 1....

You do realize that urinating in Steve's yard will not make the other members' grass any greener, right?
God bless you and his family always!!!
    Holly in East Tennessee
P.S. On the other hand, your distaste for him only means more of his beautiful and precious memory for me to love and enjoy.....if only I had officially discovered him sooner.....tomorrow it will be 20 years since his passing. (trying not to cry again)

    N.... 1....

No I’m just saying to me he kinda stands out and I personally don’t care for his style.

    N.... 1....

That late beautiful precious stands out in my opinion too, but only I can not get enough of him therefore I am more than happy to take ownership of what would've been your share of him. (smiles)
God bless you and his family always!!!
    Holly in East Tennessee

    N.... 1....

Steve was brought in to give the group a younger, more hip image. The decision to fire WLG and bring in Steve Sanders was more of a PR move than anything. Having said that, with Steve they did have a couple of hits including this one so it did work for a short period of time.

    N.... 1....

@jarjon76 Steve is the one who gave them their last two #1 songs and their last top ten and kicking him to the curb is how the other three deciding to thank him? Isn't there a saying out there that goes something like this? "What goes around comes around."
God bless you and those who have loved Steve longer than me always!!!
    Holly in East Tennessee

  36. R.... F....

    Love that song

  37. M.... M....

good old songs! Yee haw. Love it! the oak boys were The first concert I went to see, way back in 1980

  38. J.... B....

Great song to welcome summer with!

  39. F.... ....

Oh I REALLY like this one. I"ve not heard this before.

  40. J.... O....

I want Steve Sanders back!!! (trying not to cry again)
    God bless his family always!!!
    Holly in East Tennessee

  41. T.... J....

I love this song. I love Richard Sterban. His smile is amazing. He makes me smile

  42. C.... G....

    w0w! HAIR

  43. S.... 0....

Who is the woman holding the video camera?? whoever she is...she is mighty cute!!

    S.... 0....

Sirphil 0267 I was wondering if it is Richard’s wife Donna. Looks alike from Little Things video

    S.... 0....

Missing Steve it’s not the same

  44. T.... B....

I know that this is totally off the wall but when I was a kid people told us William golden left the groupbecause he went full on mountain man and refused to bathe more once or twice a year and since we were just kids we fell for it the one who told us this was kin folk to us and we were all floored by this the only thing we knew was he was not with them anymore

    T.... B....

All I know is that in my opinion, a better person to fill his slot could not have been picked, I love the late beautiful precious Steve Sanders so much! (forever wishing that I had discovered him sooner)
God bless you and his family always!!!
    Holly in East Tennessee

    T.... B....

He was fired in 1987 because he no longer fit the image of what the 80s Oaks were doing. Really WLG and the Oaks had been fighting for years before he was canned. It's true that his mountain man image didn't sit well with the other Oaks, but that wasn't the sole reason he was let go. It was more his attitude at the time and their desire to bring Steve Sanders into the fold.

  45. J.... P....

i just love oak ridge boys and i just love this song

  46. K.... P....

William Lee was the one who brought Steve into the group. He went from the back line to the front line. He was beginning to have issues outside of the group that were causing problems inside the group. Golden's solo career wasn't really working out so he came back and replaced Steve.

    K.... P....

James Otto Sweet Heart Steve was great, but I don't believe as far as him making the group their best. Their biggest hit came way before his time.

    K.... P....

Saw him long before he went to the Oak Ridge Boys when he was a soloist in gospel. Good singer with different voice quality.

    K.... P....

True, their biggest song was before his being a member of the act, but his involvement is what scored them their last two #1 songs and their last top ten song.God bless you and his family always!!!Holly in East Tennessee

    K.... P....

It has now been 20 years since Steve went forward, if only I had discovered him sooner, I love him SO much!!! (burying my head)
God bless you and his family always!!!
    Holly in East Tennessee

    K.... P....

Not quite true. Sanders leaving the group had nothing to do with Golden. They reunited with WLG only after Sanders quit the Oaks. Would they have eventually replaced Steve with William had SS stayed in the group? Yeah, but let's make sure we have what happened accurate.

  47. R.... Z....

Jesus Harold Christ.....even the OAK RIDGE BOYS looked gay in the 80s...

  48. D.... D....

The song is actually called Monongahela

    D.... D....

    No it's not

    D.... D....

The album was called Monongahela. This particular song on the album was called Gonna Take a Lot of River.

  49. A.... A....

    great song by the boys.......

  50. J.... O....

I pray so hard that the Lord let Steve pick up where ever his leaving off took place, I love him so much. (trying not to cry)
    God bless you always!!!
    Holly in East Tennessee

  51. M.... L....

The fiddle player was with The Late Great Tammy Wynette's band for a while in the 80's.

  52. D.... K....

that was back when music was good rca had the best camcorders back in the 80s

    D.... K....

RCA had the best televisions in the world, MADE IN USA !!!

  53. W.... W....

I bet they had fun making that video

  54. G.... W....

They dumped Steve Sanders when John Lee Golden decided to come back.

    G.... W....

I got a message letting me know that you wrote to me here about this matter. Go here for the proof that Steve was given no other option but to pack up and leave. https://www.courtlistener.com/opinion/1079594/the-oak-ridge-boys-inc-v-steve-h-sanders/
God bless you and his family always!!!
    Holly in East Tennessee

    G.... W....

And now its been 20 years since Steve's suicide, if only I had discovered him sooner, I love him SO much!!! (burying my head)
God bless you and his family always!!!
    Holly in East Tennessee

    G.... W....

James Otto Sweet Heart the evidence you have given proves that Steve Sanders RESIGNED after given a chance to fix the negative publicity it was giving the group, and he didn't want to cause anymore trouble ( you would have realized this if you would have read more than the first quarter of the article.)

    G.... W....

I read more than just the beginning of the write up and in my opinion, the resigning happened because fixing the problem was easier said than done and I believe that what took place at the very end couldn't be anymore proof of it. I believe that Steve knew that taking out anyone else in the picture would've only meant more jail time, maybe even a life sentence if not the lethal injection. My only question is how have things been going for him these past 20 years and still counting? Through out my life, I've gotten conflicting information concerning the whereabouts of those who take their own lives and so I don't know. I guess that its a question that only the Lord can really answer. (not holding my breath due to how busy the man stays)
    God bless you always!!!
    Holly in East Tennessee

    G.... W....

Steve Sanders left the group on his own. He wasn't forced out to bring back WLG. He left the Oaks high and dry by not showing up to a show and they had to scramble to find a temp replacement. Luckily Duane Allen's son was able to step in and fill in for that show and others that followed. They contacted WLG AFTER that tour and reunited with him on New Year's day 1997.

  55. c.... ....

What happened to the blonde guy singing?

    c.... ....

He committed suicide in 1998. So sad.

    c.... ....

Steve Sanders. I agree, a sad shame.

    c.... ....

Its been 20 years now since his suicide, if only I had discovered him sooner, I love him SO much!!! (burying my head)
God bless you and his family always!!!
    Holly in East Tennessee

  56. d.... ....

And kids,THAT was a compact video camera in 1988.

    d.... ....

    cost thousands too!

    d.... ....

Poor Joe. A dunking he didn 't expect OR want. I had to la ugh when I saw him tossed overboard. Hope he can swi m?

    d.... ....

    The good old days

    d.... ....

    Or at least hundreds.

    d.... ....

The chick must have known something, the way that she grabbed the camera just before he got pitched overboard.

  57. L.... ....

Sing'n REALLY didn't want to carry all of Joe's stuff...

    L.... ....

To me, the late beautiful precious should've said to Joe, "I'm not your rug rat roadie, so you get up off your rag tail RUMP and do it your own dang self!".......as if enough had not been dumped on Singin' Steve already. (hoping his ex-wife has been haunted ever since his suicide)
God bless you and his family always!!!
    Holly in East Tennessee

    L.... ....

Can you believe that its been 20 years now since Singin' went forward, if only I had discovered him sooner, I love him SO much!!! (burying my head)
God bless you and his family always!!!
    Holly in East Tennessee

    L.... ....

THERE WON'T EVER BE A WOMAN TO MAKE ME COMMIT SUICIDE...
THERE'S JUST TOO MANY OTHER WOMEN IN THE WORLD!!!
It's absolutely sad that Steve let things get to that point over a WOMAN!!!
But some people handle tough situations differently.

    L.... ....

@Randy Miller I don't believe his suicide was over a woman, at least not over the woman you may be referring to. I remember there being a clip here of Steve during a talk show in 1996 named Leeza and on there Steve talked about the possibility of never getting to see his grand children because his daughter didn't want anything more to do with him...which is why I have no use for the little word that I can not say.
God bless you and those who have loved him longer than me always!!!
    Holly in East Tennessee

  58. J.... D....

Is the lead wearing womens flats?

    J.... D....

To me, the better question might be are ladies wearing HIS shoes now.....as if the late beautiful precious had not been ripped off enough already?
God bless you and his family always!!!
    Holly in East Tennessee

  59. E.... ....

That Squeezebox is what really makes the song.

  60. l.... ....

80s-tastic. But they should have used Allegheny instead of Mississippi. Then it would have been all three Pittsburgh rivers.

    l.... ....

but it wouldnt have been cajun

    l.... ....

    or the "Yough"
    (Youghiogheny)..

    l.... ....

they basically covered all the major river ways from the Appalachia to the Rocky Mountains. In just 3 rivers

  61. d.... d....

I love you B. James Lowry!

  62. S.... B....

Still enjoy you Steve Sanders . . . you left many years ago, but have not been forgotten.

    S.... B....

Can somebody tell me why SS took over for Bill Golden i n the late 80s?

    S.... B....

@Kevin Miller William Lee wanted to go solo and so when the ship was finally jumped, someone had to take his place.
    God bless you always!!!

  63. M.... ....

LOOK HOW OLD THAT CAMERA IS 80'S BABY

    M.... ....

What do you expect from that time?10 20 years earlier it would of been a movie camera.

    M.... ....

    For sure

  64. j.... g....

when this song first hit the air wave I was working a tug in the fleet in Baton Rouge, It was on the radio in the galley,So I dedicate it to the crew of the T/G Doris McKenny. oh yea, Joe looks gay in the video.

  67. M.... W....

Over twenty years later and this one just sparkles like any modern country and gospel hit. Those ORBs just had something we haven't seen since.

    M.... W....

Mike Wofsey. Sorry Mike new stuff sounds like excrement to me. It does to most real country music kovers!.

    M.... W....

What modern country music? Modern country bands wouldn't know what real country is.

  68. J.... W....

    Killer jam

  69. T.... J....

I grew up listening to the ORB while Steve was still with us.  I love William Lee, but when Steve left; and then committed suicide a few years later; it was like part of the spark went out in the guys.  Their songs and the way they were performed, with the guys all over the stage; made everybody either smile or laugh.  Steve played a giant part of that, as did Joe.  ORB, I will love you all forever.  And RIP Steve,  I hope that evil woman got what she deserved for making you feel so down as to commit suicide.  I miss you forever.

    T.... J....

What I would like to know is if the late beautiful precious is ever mentioned at all by the other members of this group while they are on the stage during their shows. Steve was with them for eight years and did the leading on two of their biggest songs. If they go out there and act like his presence in the group never once happened, then maybe they are not worth the remembering after they have gone forward. (trying not to cry)
God bless you and Steve's family always!!!

P.S. Steve's 65th birthday would've been this September on the 17th. I wonder if his parents and siblings are still here.

Can you believe that its been 20 years now since Steve's going, if only I had discovered him sooner, I love him SO much!!! (burying my head)
God bless you and his family always!!!

Steve got the raw end of the deal

    T.... J....

I can't help but wonder what the Lord has in store for the remaining members of this act considering the role that they have no shame to claim.
God bless you and those who have loved Steve longer than me always!!!
Holly in East Tennessee (forever wishing that I had discovered him sooner)
P.S. I also can't help but wonder here and there how often William Lee's beard has gotten caught in his zipper. (trying not to laugh)

    YEAH BABY!!

  71. S.... d....

    Oh yeah....I like this song.
The only song I can think of with the word "Monongahela" in it.
The video is pretty good too.

    S.... d....

For the longest I thought it was "The Monarch, the Gila and the Ohio."

    Joe looks very happy, yes.

Nothing gay about it... that's the way we dressed in the 80's!

Anybody know what caused Steve Sanders to commit suicide? It's a mystery to me.

    D.... W....

+Dave Wollenberg this is my understanding of it.Steve Sanders was having a lot of personal problems, mostly because of his wife. Steve loved singing with The Oak Ridge boys but off stage he had some big problems. Steve once told Joe that all he really wanted was to sail around the word and fish. Then without any notice, one night Steve took all his stuff off the bus and was not coming back. Duane Allen's son and son-in- law who was very young at the time help fill in for Steve even though he was not coming back. Steve's problems got bigger. Steve had been singing ever since he was a kid and loves to fish.  Steve was a very nice guy but always felt the world was against him and when someone would try to help, he would not want it. Later in the year, Steve killed himself. The rest of The Oak Ridge Boys wish they would not have let William leave and they all wish Steve was some where across the world sailing and fishing

    D.... W....

+Dave Wollenberg His exwife was killing him on child support and turning his kids against him.  She was pretty much the reason he had to leave the band.

    D.... W....

If there is anything else that you can share about Steve, I would so appreciate it if you tell me...I love him so much and I will forever regret not getting into him sooner.
God bless you and his family always!!!

P.S. If you can answer, can I ask what became of Steve's widow? I can't help but wonder if maybe their marriage was on shaky ground just before his going forward.

    D.... W....

Well according to what I have read, if what I've read is all true of course, there was a lot going against Steve and I hate it for him. I was almost 16 years old when his going forward took place. I don't know how things were going between him and the lady who was married to him then, but if I had been in her position, I would've taken him into my arms every day and told him that I love him so much...that is what I want to do to him now...but of course we all know that doing anything like that with him is out of the question. (Why does fate have to be so cruel?)
God bless you and his family always!!!

Can you believe that its been 20 years now since that horrible day? If only I had officially discovered him before then.....I love him so much. (crying again)

  75. g.... ....

Love the classic ORBs and WLG but I do have to say that it didn't seem unfamiliar or weird to have an ORB with Steve Sanders like it usually is when a beloved band member is replaced by someone else. Some of my favorite post-Elvira songs of ORB were done with Steve and 'Monongehela' is one of my favorite Oaks albums. RIP Steve....

    g.... ....

+guibox3 William Lee Golden was with the group when they broke away from a mostly Gospel act in the mid 70s.

    g.... ....

@doughesson Yes. I know that. I've followed the Oaks since the early 80 and learned the history of the ORB

bladeemerson that’s my favorite part of the video XD symbolizing the massive low note that Richard hit on that time segment.

  77. j.... ....

The Oak Ridge Boys will live forever....they went through Captain America type experiments......right?...that's why they sing about elvira (the vampire).....Oak Ridge where all the uranium is?....any one?

    j.... ....

The original group was formed to entertain the folks in Oak Ridge Tn during WWII since the town was involved in very hush-hush parts of the atomic bomb research projects and the folks couldn't go into town for fear that someone would let slip what they were doing there.
The current group,Richard,Joe,Duane and William Lee,got together in the early 70s.

  88. C.... Z....

Ur right, but Steve Sanders (R.I.P.) added a great voice, particularly in this song. I just think his voice was perfect for this one song, but I agree overall. What a waste.

  91. V.... ....

The lead is sung by Steve Sanders. This was their first hit after William Lee Golden was fired and replaced by Steve Sanders. Steve stayed in the group for about 7 years and left, then William Lee Golden came back in 1995 and the line up has remained the same ever since.

  93. P.... H....

This might be worse video I have seen in years. Watching these guys in their latest 80s fashion trying to be funny is just terrible. It is the same lame acting over and over again. Doesn't get much worse than this!

    P.... H....

    Paul Hebert you suck

  94. M.... ....

    real country music.

  95. 1.... ....

Love this song, but this has got to be the lamest video on this site. It fails lip-sync 101. I'll just turn my glance away from the monitor and listen to the music. PS: I'm not one of the 3 dislikes.

  96. M.... ....

0:54 in case you were wondering whether this was a song.

  97. G.... V....

Nothing like an Oak Ridge Boys song.
