Oak Ridge Boys, The - Come On In (You Did The Best You Could Do) Lyrics
When I get tired and a little lonely, the worlds turned it's cold back on me
When I'm about to swear I ain't got a friend left to my name
Instead of sinking a little lower I start making tracks on over
To a place where the sun shines day and night and where I know I'll hear you say
Come on in, baby shake the blues off I'm gonna love that frown away
Come on in, baby put a smile on, come on in, baby tell me what's wrong
Come on in, the blues will be long gone I'm gonna love your hurt away
When I feel a lonesome night coming on, every thing I did all day went wrong
There's a black cloud following me around and I just can't get away
Instead of sinking a little lower I start making tracks on over
To a place where the sun shines day and night and I know I'll hear you say
Come on in, baby take you coat off, come on in, baby take a load off
Come on in, baby put a smile on, come on in, baby tell me what's wrong
Come on in, the blues will be long gone I'm gonna love your hurt away
Come on in, baby take you coat off, come on in, baby take a load off
Come on in, baby shake the blues off I'm gonna love that frown away
Come on in, baby put a smile on, come on in, baby tell me what's wrong
Come on in, the blues will be long gone I'm gonna love your hurt away

Oak Ridge Boys, The Come On In (You Did The Best You Could Do) Comments
'' Fella's '' , Thats what President George Herbert Walker Bush called them . The Oakridge Boy's sang '' Amazing Grace '' at his final State funeral in Houston Texas . The Oak's and Bush had been friends since the Reagan Presidency . I have been proud, So proud to also call them close personal friends . I talk or text Duane Allen at lest once a week . You can not find a more family , Christian Quartet then the Oakridge Boy's Quartet . I encourage you to attend a concert in your are when the come to a town near you , You , Your family , wife and kids will enjoy the show !
The Mighty Oaks.
Yes sir !
@Byron Autry Copy that.
I think this song plays during the credits of one of the Rambo movies.
I dreamed I was dying in Texas
I closed my eyes and I sighed
Like a black and white movie I saw my days
Playing out before my eyes
I was crippled by a life of injustice
I was bent from walking into the wind
I pled guilty on the day of judgment
God just shook my hand and grinned
And He said
Come on in
You did the best that you could do
There's a little bit of right in every wrong
There's a little bit of Me in you
Sister I know that you're weary
You've been slaving in the sun all day
The burden of life in your belly
Sorrow in your heart of clay
Your husband was a man of passion
And passion stole your husband away
And your son gave his life for your freedom
But you feel like a prisoner anyway
Sister
I left my home and my family
Put my shoes in the dust of this land
Found a job and a woman
But nothing went the way I planned
I was ambushed by my own good intentions
Used up every dollar I earned
So I went back to the home of my father
Said your American son has returned
Dad, your American son has returned
He said
When I get tired and a little lonely, the worlds turned it's cold back on me
When I'm about to swear I ain't got a friend left to my name
Instead of sinking a little lower I start making tracks on over
To a place where the sun shines day and night and where I know I'll hear you say
When I feel a lonesome night coming on, every thing I did all day went wrong
There's a black cloud following me around and I just can't get away
Instead of sinking a little lower I start making tracks on over
To a place where the sun shines day and night and I know I'll hear you say
Come on in, baby take you coat off, come on in, baby take a load off
Come on in, baby shake the blues off I'm gonna love that frown away
Come on in, baby put a smile on, come on in, baby tell me what's wrong
Come on in, the blues will be long gone I'm gonna love your hurt away
Come on in, baby take you coat off, come on in, baby take a load off
Come on in, baby shake the blues off I'm gonna love that frown away
Come on in, baby put a smile on, come on in, baby tell me what's wrong
Come on in, the blues will be long gone I'm gonna love your hurt away
Awesome song. Real country at its best.👌
I was just with my life long friends , The Oakridge Boy's last week . Although they are getting on in years , they told us they have no plans to slow down and retire at this time . As a favor , Please pray for strength in their body's, Joy in the hearts and great success in what ever they do !
One of the best country groups of all time right here!
This song speaks for my soul. Love it!
Aren't they good ?
When country was phenomenal!
why isn't this song/video from Hee Haw available anymore on Youtube?
this song should've been #1
It came close! ..It climbed to #3 in early '86 for the Oaks!🎵🎵
It's #1 in my heart and that's good enough for me.
The Oak Ridge Boys at the height of their career back in 1986.
Heard this on the radio for the first time today and fell in love with it. So thank thankful that I could find it on you tube.
Classic country song that's full of energy!!! awesome!!!
Jesus is the only way to the Father. God requires perfection and holiness. Man won't enter into heaven without first repenting and accepting Jesus and His work on the cross. I think this song means well but it's not biblical.
David Alexandert Hi, David. I'll have to respectfully disagree. The lyrics say "there's a little bit of right in every wrong" and "you did the best that you could do". That's not scriptural. Jesus saves those who put their trust in Him and the finished work of the cross. He doesn't need our help or good works. There is none innocent or good enough to stand before God unless they are covered in the blood of Christ (and it sounds like you agree). To the listener of this song, however, the lyrics seem to conclude God will welcome everyone into heaven. This isn't true.
Doc Creed "There's as little bit of good in every wrong....." is a southern saying. They aren't talking about going out purposely and doing wrong. They are saying if life sometimes everything goes wrong and you started out with good intentions. And you also need to know this group is from Oak Ridge Tennessee and started out a a country gospel group also. So when you take all that into account you can see the true meaning of this song.
I just love the way people like you have to inject their religious views into a beautiful heartfelt song like this. I hope you can find some peace.
Doc Creed the oak ridge boys are Christians buddy.
I’ve pondered this same thing. I think we all will plead guilty on judgment day. Only those belonging to Jesus will be pardoned.
love it
I was eleven when I first heard this song. It was still getting a lot of airplay in January of 1986. I remember it came on the radio on January 28 the day the Space Shuttle Challenger exploded in Florida. I thought about the seven crew members as the song played and how they reached for the American dream. I will never forget that day and this song will always remember them
Duane will want to hear about your story ! He is the lead singer for the Oakridge Boy's
why isn't this song from there performance on heehaw on here anymore?
