Oak Ridge Boys, The - Callin' Baton Rouge Lyrics

I spent last night in the arms
Of a girl in Louisiana
And though I'm out on the highway
My thoughts are still with her
A strange combination of a woman and a child
A strange situation stoppin' every twenty miles
Callin' Baton Rouge

A replay of last night's events
Roll through my mind
Except a scene or two
Erased by sweet red wine
And I see a truck stop sign ahead
So I change lanes
I need a couple cups of coffee
And a couple dollars change
Callin' Baton Rouge

Operator get me on through
I gotta send my love down to Baton Rouge
Hurry up won't you put her on the line
I want talk to that girl one more time.

Hello Samantha dear, I hope you're feelin' fine
It won't be long until I'm with you all the time
Until then I'll spend my money up right down to my last dime.
Callin' Baton Rouge.

Oak Ridge Boys, The Callin' Baton Rouge Comments
  1. C.... T....

Compare original of 'Sailing' by Sutherland Brothers And Quiver to the Rod Stewart version another instance where a cover version surpasses the original version.

  2. J.... c....

Im sorry but Garths version is much better.

  3. S.... S....

For info purposes, Garth liked the NGR version so much it's them plus Jerry Douglas creating that huge sound.

  4. P.... Z....

Garth's version is best...I never knew this existed until radio DJ said so.

  5. K.... K....

Never heard this one before. Not a fan, though I do love me some Oak Ridge Boys.

  6. d.... l....

I need 2 things earplugs and Garth

  7. J.... s....

This version sucks. The New Grass Revival version is really good, Garth's versions takes it to a new level with emotion and massive sound.

  8. j.... u....

    This version sux

    j.... u....

See I have the "problem" of thinking it's the opposite

  9. g.... m....

I like this version better then the one garth brooks done

  10. g.... ....

I really like this version as well as the New Grass Revival version, but for those of you who are saying it's better than Garth's version are just being blindly loyal to maybe your favorite group or are just hating on Garth. Either way, I get it. But the truth is, Garth's version takes this song to new heights. That being said, I respect each of your opinions. There are many, many times where I disagree with the masses.

  11. w.... ....

Jesus Christ. What a fucking mess.

  12. M.... C....

In my opinion New Grass Revival does the best version.

    M.... C....

+Morton Counts Not just you. I love the Oaks, but this just isn't up to par for them.

    M.... C....

New Grass Revival band members played on Garth Brooks version

    M.... C....

Garth loves NGR and that's why his version is so much like theirs. Gotta love it!!!

    M.... C....

David Holle that, and because he’s a fucking hack.

    M.... C....

    NGR is the best.

  13. D.... M....

Tbh Garth Brooks make this sound like crap. And I like the oak ridge boys too.

    D.... M....

+Colton Weston they sound like dying cats.

    D.... M....

+Delainey Marsteller I think the Oak Ridge Boys version has more of a Cajun sound to it compared to garth brooks version. Just depends on your taste I guess

    D.... M....

Delainey Marsteller nope. Garth Brooks does the best version by far

    D.... M....

    See I think the opposite

This was just album cut for the Oaks.I don't care for the arrangement or production of this track. They could have done it better.Seems like just a filler. They had some great singles on this album though
