Numan, Gary - Stormtrooper In Drag Lyrics
So here am I quite by chance near the phone
I could call and make you crawl into bed
Questions always questions
I'll just speak in slow motion,
About obsessions with boys on the floor.
Take that smile off your face,
Wipe that tear from your eye,
Don't say you're sorry for me.
Now look at me like a stormtrooper in drag
And I'll let you feel exactly like I do,
It's so disgusting I'm so tired of rhythm
And needles in arms,
I don't want your point of view.
Nothing to steal,
And there's nothing to say.
Love it love it I need to.

Numan, Gary Stormtrooper In Drag Comments
Gary played Bass on this song and Paul played keyboards,they swapped.
Of all songs that Gary collaborated on, this is probably the best. A close friend, he sang the lyrics as close to the bone as he probably could have done. Paul was an extremely talented guy consumed by the most evil of things. His addiction (heroin) summed up in this one song, he wrote the music and lyrics and Gary executed it perfectly.
heroin isnt evil, its just tricky
@Rick Deckard Very tricky Rick....
@irishcowboy42 not for ol Rick. he's got it ALL under control. not to mention the cabergoline and the trenbolone, and the halotestin, and don't even get me started on the nootropics...
@irishcowboy42 great song tho.
@irishcowboy42 indeed
Fucking Love this song...always did. Paul Gardiner was a class act.
RIP - my namesake
It seems that Paul was another victim of Britain's endless war on those people who take recreational drugs. In a sane society, his addiction to heroin would have been a medical problem; Paul would have known what he was using instead of trusting to blind luck. Dead by 25. The shame is on us and on our governments, police and media.
I remember Smash Hits' review of this track, calling it "genuinely unlistenable". I found it eerie and compelling, and I still do. It's one of Numan's best recordings.
Love the bass in this song.
Wore the single out playing this constantly!
RIP Paul Gardiner
His start into the darkness and the birth of goth rock.
Numan didn't write it , his best m8 Paul Gardiner did , the adlibs at the end of the song is " like a boy underground , look at you " , refering to his death of a heroin overdose on a park bench .
@NumanFanlfc I'm not sure how his ad libs could refer to Paul's death since Paul was still alive when the song was released.
@James Simpson perhaps it was anticipatory
How could it be "the birth of goth rock" two years after Bauhaus released Bela Lugosi's Dead? It doesn't even sound like goth, it sounds like "white funk"
