Numan, Gary - Steel And You Lyrics

It's so quiet and dark
And I shouldn't be here
This machine won't last
For always

Just my steel friend and me
I stand brave by his side
This machine is all
I live for

I can see in your eyes
You're not so sure about me
This machine is my voice
Please listen

It's so noisy and bright
And I just love being here
This machine will last
For my life

Numan, Gary Steel And You Comments
  1. O.... j....

I remember the time when I was browsing through an independent record store in the very early 80s,id only just got into listening to Numan at the time,so was curious as to what his earlier stuff was all about,I saw this album and the lady behind the counter asked me if I wanted a listen through headphones in one of the listening booths,so I did,Steel and you came over load and clear,Wow!..what a track, bought the Album and this song has stayed with me ever since..

  2. K.... m....

    Ahead of its time

  3. W.... B....

If I didn't know better I'd think John Rutsey was the drummer.

  4. l.... ....

    Numan inventing Metallica

  5. J.... T....

This machine is my voice: please listen

My favourite song on this Album...love the riff, and as for the guitar solo, not the fastest or complex, but then it doesn’t have to be,as it really does hit the right spot!

  7. D.... G....

the first LP i ever bought. superb

  8. E.... R....

he makes it all sound so unromantic...

  9. T.... B....

What year was this song released? Wow!

    T.... B....

    i believe it was 1978

  10. F.... O....

We always loved the the guitar sound on this our all time fav album so beautifully mixed with synth and all held together by beautifully simple but very effective bass and drums [simplicity is indeed genius]. Lots of love from the Tripzville Godz

  11. m.... D....

A new tune to put in the rotation.

  12. d.... ....

Proof Gary Numan was total heavy fucking metal.

  13. P.... ....

This song is way the hell ahead of its time; that intro alone sounds like it could come from an industrial-rock album released yesterday.

  14. N.... S....

Supposedly Eddie Van Halen loved this song, which is interesting, because the cold cold cold guitar is the antithesis of his style.

    N.... S....

    flanger

    N.... S....

i think by "cold," he was referring to the way it was mixed.
there's virtually no reverb, and the microphone placement and tone mixing sound very much like the way the guitars were recorded on metallica's "and justice for all" album

    @carcar jinks Yep.

I’ve seen A photo somewhere on the web of Gary with his Les Paul During the studio sesh for this Album..The only guitar amp I could see in the pic is what looks like an HH 2x12 solid state combo with a mic stuck in front of it..Tho he could have used something else more powerful out of shot maybe?

Thanks for that, I'm a huge fan of both Numan and VH. Now I bet Geordie in Killing Joke liked it too?

  15. I.... b....

    Play this VERY LOUDLY!!!

  16. t.... ....

I love the guitar from tubeway army. Wish they kept it. A lot closer to the NIN sound. :)

  17. D.... S....

Super song. Love that opening slice of the guitar right through, essential Numan.

    :) love it
