Nujabes - Waiting For The Clouds Lyrics

[Substantial:]
Substantial and Nujabes still doin' this
And it's infinite
Hydeout promo, let's get into it, uh

Waiting for the clouds to part
Waiting to be out of the dark
If our future's bright, then the present is a overcast
And we want it to be over fast, let's shine

Got to get above the clouds without a aircraft
That is without a doubt such a rare task
Finding it hard to grin or just share laughs
So you vent when that drum hat and snare clash
No plan B, plan A is weak
Mentally and physically drained
And you can't sleep
Rent's a month overdue as of last week
A shadow of your future self below a vast peak
While people walk past like they can't speak
Ignored cause without rich shit, you're piss poor
Quit more drowning your spirit, with liquor
And victor, isn't a realistic picture
But you still take the shot and develop it
For the hell of it, and pray when you'll wake you'll be relevant
And put your best on, you're no longer worse off
Slaving at a job you hate, for a jerk off
You just wanna be kissed by the sun
Where your daughter's always safe in the midst of having fun
Having some will more than due when you used to having none
Disregard the chatter from know-it-all's who haven't won, while you're

Waiting for the clouds to part
Waiting to be out of the dark
If our future's bright, then the present is overcast
And we want it to be over fast, let's shine

Waiting for the clouds to part
Waiting to be out of the dark
If our future's bright, then the present is overcast
And we want it to be over fast, let's shine

Parents couldn't do the job they signed up fo'
Gave you life, but they should've gave you much mo'
Won't judge, but I surely won't applaud them
They lost, and somebody gotta' raise their child for them
Now you're in and out of various households and juvy
Cross Paths of ghetto fab to the white collar and boushi
Who answer the call of duty, or is it truly for a check?
But regardless of they motives, they feel you owe them respect
You don't know how to act like you got a part in a movie
But lack direction
How do you show love, if you never had affection
Dying slow brah, like you got a bad infection
Ain't no band-aid for man-made self-hate
It heal slow, but I'm not sure of you'll wait
Education is the medication, to get yourself straight
The war within you reached a stalemate
But good gotta win in the end, or else jail waits
Broken soul cell mates, Followed by hell's gates
For Bad apples sell failure waits in the belly of the beast
And it's never gonna cease till you chose to elevate
I'm ready when you are to celebrate, till then I'll be

Waiting for the clouds to part
Waiting to be out of the dark
If our future's bright, then the present is overcast
And we want it to be over fast, let's shine

Waiting for the clouds to part
Waiting to be out of the dark
If our future's bright, then the present is overcast
And we want it to be over fast, let's shine

Finding this has been a blessing. Just when I was losing a little bit of my passion for Chill-hop, I find something new and beautiful. I am reminded of the beauty I experienced firsthand diving into Nujabes' music. Thank you.

  6. H.... G....

Anyone know what the sample at the end of the chorus says, or where the sample is from?

    H.... G....

Not sure if this is what you're asking but he says "Le-le-lets shine, le-le-lets shine, visibilities low but I don't let it cloud mine." The sentence is sampled off of Substantial's own song, Umoja.

  7. N.... 4....

is it just me, or does it feel like this picture is moving?

  13. V.... B....

    subtanial is good

  14. D.... B....

I relate to this song so much

  15. t.... ....

does anybody know the sample ?

  16. C.... W....

Real hip hop right here. makes me feel emotional

  17. T.... B....

This song makes me sad in a way. I never knew who Nujabes was until 3 years after his death. I just hope that Substantial makes it big. He deserves it.

    T.... B....

True. I stared listen to him in 2012. Until I found out he made the sound track for samurai champloo

  18. O.... ....

    Lovin'' it !

  19. B.... ....

This song got me through months of uncertainty after being laid off from my last job and years ago when it took me nearly a year to find work out of college. Nujabes had always been a big part of my music library, but songs like these really cement how much I love this dude's music.

I finally made it to Japan recently and hit up Tower Records in Shibuya, thinking I could maybe pick up a CD or Vinyl or anything and I was in awe at finding a shrine-like shelf of all of his stuff, with "Legendary Beatmaker" in a banner above his photo, and what I assume was an explanation of who he was and what Hydeout Productions is, and all of that good stuff. It felt like I had made some sort of underground hip hop pilgrimage that I had wanted to do since I heard the first Hydeout Productions Collection well over a decade ago. His death genuinely made me sad and I still miss clicking through various hip hop blogs to see when his next work was gonna drop.

Rest in beats, Nujabes, you and your dope beats will always be missed

  20. p.... ....

I can't listen to this song, it legitimately makes me cry every time I hear it.

  31. S.... ....

RIP Nujabes. Peace to everyone listening to this and keeping his memory alive. Thanks for the kind words.

    S.... ....

Sitting in traffic listening to this as I type. Looking to be a producer half as great as he was with the end goal of making meaningful songs like you guys did here. Had a rough day of doubt today but this truly helped. I appreciate you guys more than words can explain. Thank you both.

What's being said in the background when "Let's shine" is repeated during the hook?

It's a sample of Substanials Song "Umoja". :D
He says: "Visibility's low but I don't let cloud mine"

    r.... ....

Finally! So satisfying knowing what's being said. Even more satisfied with it's content and meaning.

  47. H.... ....

Esperando a que las nubes se vayan.
Esperando estar fuera de la oscuridad.
Si nuestro futuro es brillante, nuestro presente esta encapotado.
Y queremos que pronto se acabe, BRILLEMOS.
    Hay que ir por encima de las nubes sin una nave;
esa es sin dudas una extraña tarea.

    H.... ....

+Some kind of Human Nice picture :) I got into Algernon recently. Broad music tastes ftw

    H.... ....

Amazes me how many people on the inet are telling me something about my Algernon Cadwallader picture ahah it was an unique band, deep messages...cool thing you also like Nujabes! Good music to be alive (:

  48. A.... ....

    I Cant Stand Rappers!!!

    A.... ....

    just...what?

    A.... ....

Substantial tracks are often about how he hates Rappers and often refers to himself as an MC instead! There is a difference between MC's and Rappers! "I Cant Stand Rappers" is something that he says a lot

    A.... ....

@Archanfel Being an MC means you produce and do the vocals (primarily by rapping) over your own tracks. Oddisee and Black Milk are prime examples, along with Pete Rock and J Dilla. Definitely not an easy task and a limited amount of ones that are top tier. I still think it's kind of ironic that he says he doesn't like rappers, maybe he means more mainstream ones.

    A.... ....

@***** People have different interpretations of it, but I think the consensus is that they control the whole stage at concerts and have meaningful impacts/performances. Though being an MC imo, means that they also care about the production of their music and what it represents lyrically. So, I don't disagree with your assessment.

  49. I.... t....

Thank you di.fm for introducing me to this great artist

  56. N.... H....

Who says the 2010's doesn't have music with substance?

  57. D.... W....

WHY is there NO instrumental of this ANYWHERE??!?!

    D.... W....

at the end of the song you can find a sample without vocals... thats it imo

  58. u.... ....

japan has better hip hop than america D: !!!

    u.... ....

ukhio Japan also has better cars then America.

    u.... ....

more efficient but not sure about fun

    u.... ....

    This is Japan hip hop?

    u.... ....

Give One Be Lo a listen. He's quite the conscious rapper, one of my favorites. Also, of course there's Rakim, who is fantastic. As for production, the late and great J Dilla (Rest In Peace) is worthy of anyone's ears, along with pete rock and DJ Premier. A Tribe Called Quest and of course Nas are worth mentioning, as well as Atmosphere. The list goes on, but naturally you have to put in your own work to find good artists. I would refer you to the Bangers playlist on my channel, but it's mostly the old school gangster rap type thing, which I assume isn't your forte considering the content of this page.

    u.... ....

Japan has better everything. Toyota for life baby.

  59. d.... ....

god damn. I thought i heard all his songs...

  60. G.... ....

    So chill great nujabes :)

  61. p.... ....

When I feel down, this song gives me all the power I need to keep going. This life shit can get crazy, but music can always hold me down, real talk.

  62. d.... w....

this song reminds me of a very special part of my life and it brings me to tears hearing it again.

  63. G.... R....

always puts me in a good mood

  64. B.... B....

    that's your opinion tho lol

  65. M.... N....

so emotional awesome rap <3 so real.

  66. N.... ....

I used to just put this song on because it was catchy, when I read the lyrics once I can't believe how deep it is. I love Substantial and Nujabes.

  67. C.... U....

I think in order to enjoy it when you listen to it to become culturally literate or just because somebody is blasting it, you have to focus outside of the speaker's words. Most skill in mainstream hip hop is the production as of late. Not saying the production is comparable to something as skillful as nujabes, but the production tends to be of very high quality in recent rap tracks.

  68. S.... ....

Lyrical Genius by Substantial and Muscial Masterpiece by Nujabes

  69. A.... P....

no shit this beat is the heaven on earth greeting to all listeners

  70. C.... C....

I Completely Agree with your Way of Hip-Hop. I've Listened to that same crap everyday, until i listen to this, & MF Doom, I've changed & now i feel Relaxed & Happy about this kind of music.

  71. L.... C....

Might i recommend you check out the rapper Poetic Death he has a lable named Organised Threat and he puts on alot of REAL hip hop

  72. k.... ....

sad i just discovered nujabes. his kinda music proves music truly is a universal language true music lover speak irrespective of race. RIP nujabes. REAL HIP HOP.

  73. N.... ....

    listened for about 2,8 sec.
    aaand I love it

  74. J.... B....

    #RIP NUJABES

  80. b.... ....

Thank you Samurai Champloo for introducing my to this amazing artist.

  81. D.... ....

    my favorite from nujabes

  82. M.... ....

There are thousands. It's Nu-jazz/jazzhop. Try Blazo and Mitchita, they're very similar. Or just click an artist from the related videos.. or look up Ninja Tune's (music label) wiki and check out artists from there.

  83. H.... W....

This is swagger, not SWAG. Kids got personal sense of style confused with 'looking like the popular crowd'.

  84. s.... ....

    freddie joachim .

  85. B.... C....

Nomak, Flying Lotus, J-Dilla, Fat Jon, and others

  86. i.... ....

    check out the quiett

  87. N.... ....

Is there someone similar to nujabes ? Like in terms of beat, rhythm and instrumentals.

  88. s.... ....

    hahahahaha foreals

  89. G.... ....

No. You just look like a moron doing that.

  90. b.... ....

new to the internet aren't you?

  91. G.... ....

What the fuck is with your asterisk > action bullshit?

  92. O.... B....

what gives you the right to be so aggressive? It's only youtube mate.

Also, you were wrong in your earlier comment - they never alluded to their child being a reincarnation of this artist - get your head out your arse, you're not reading correctly from down there.

  93. G.... ....

most of the people whos been listening to nujabes for years are the one who just dont post comments

  94. M.... ....

the thing i loved about nujabes videos on youtube was reading all the deep comments. why the fuck ppl are arguing about controversial top comments, i will never know. but i had something to say before i read all these stupidass commens so ima say it now, the world of music will never be the same without my man seba jun <3. R.I.P.
