Nugent, Ted - Knockin' At Your Door Lyrics

Well, ever since I was 5 years old
You've filled me with a burnin' need
But you've acted oh, so damn cold
Like you never even noticed me

Well, they say that love always finds a way
Well, if it takes forever, and it may
I'm gonna...gonna...I'm gonna keep

Knockin' at your door
Late in the midnight hour
Knockin' at your door
Ooh when there ain't nobody around

There's nothin' in the whole wide world
That I wouldn't do for you
Even lay me down in the dirt
Oh just to show my love is true

Baby you can run but you can't hide
But you know that someday I'm gonna make you mine
I'm gonna knock, I'm gonna knock
And you're gonna let me in!

Knockin' at your door
Late in the midnight hour
Knockin' at your door
Ooh when there ain't nobody around
Knockin' at your door
'Til ya come and let me in
Knockin' at your door
Lord knows I'm never gonna quit

No!

Baby you can run but you can't hide
But you know that someday I'm gonna make you mine
I'm gonna knock, Gotta keep knockin,
And you're gonna notice me!

Knockin' at your door
Late in the midnight hour
Knockin' at your door
Ooh when there ain't nobody around

Let me in let me in
I'm never gonna quit
Why don't you understand?
I bet you got the whole thing planned...

This one of the Greatest concerts. It was Easter Sunday in Indy at Market Square. There was no profanity that night and some amazing music. I'm wondering if the clean show was a consensus effort by Ted. It certainly made me feel good about attending a rock concert on Easter.

Somebody did a different version of this song c. 1983. I think I still have a fragment of it on a tape somewhere. Does anyone know of the alternate version?

I've been trying to find out who did this song since 1983 and today decided to try the internet yet again. I found Ted Nugent, which I had found years ago online. However, it never seemed right since my friends over the years should have been able to come up with Nugent when I played my radio recording for them. I listened to this YouTube posting and it didn't seem like the version I had on tape but couldn't play since my equipment is in storage. Also, the year is listed here as 1984. Your comment that there was another version led me to find Andy Fraser's version. But that definitely didn't sound like the song I remembered. Then I saw Douglas Burton's comment above that the song wasn't written by Pat Simmons so I eventually found Pat's rendition and I'm fairly certain it matches the one I heard in 1983. And, his version is listed as 1983. Do a search for Patrick Simmons and see if that's the cover you remember. Thanks for your and Douglas's help to finally figure out who performed the song I've been wondering about for over 30 years!
