Norah Jones - Silver Haired Daddy Of Mine Lyrics

In a vine covered shack in the mountains
Bravely fighting the battle of time
Is a dear one who's weathered my sorrows
'Tis that silver haired daddy of mine

If I could recall all the heartaches
Dear old daddy I've caused you to bear
If I could erase those lines from your face
And bring back the gold to your hair

If God would but grant me the power
Just to turn back the pages of time
I'd give all I own, if I could but atone
To that silver haired daddy of mine

I know it's too late dear old daddy
To repay for those sorrows and cares
Though dear mother is waiting in heaven
Just to comfort, and solace you there

If I could recall all the heartaches
Dear old daddy I've caused you to bear
If I could erase those lines from your face
And bring back the gold to your hair

If God would but grant me the power
Just to turn back the pages of time
I'd give all I own, if I could but atone
To that silver haired daddy of mine

  1. Joseph Charbonneau

    A great everly brothers song

  2. Tyler Stanley

This really doesn't sound like country this sounds more like traditional folk music also this entire album is a epic tribute to the Everly Brothers would have been kind of cool if they did some of that rock and roll songs though

  3. The People's Bookkeeper

Billie is one of the most versatile musicians of all time ❤

  4. Jummaita

    Nice nice👍

  9. ewcaryn

  12. Frank De Pauw

Totally my kinda music/song...sounds comparable to The Everly Brothers, but love this sound, and female/male voice...GOOD !!!

  13. MoufasaMan

Is Anyone knows Jin Otri(something like this)? What his relationship with this song?

  14. schube98

Don't you just love that a punk rock singer can do country better than most of the actual 'country' singers out there today? Plus, BJ is awesome in any context!

    BaronVonBielski

he really became a great singer

  15. Sherrie Crouch

Thank you for the memories!I lost the only dad I ever known when I was 13.God bless you

  16. Frank Curtis

Awesome country song. Thanks for sharing

  17. Ed Gloss

    Excellent version.

  18. Airaku

Didn't Billie used to always shit talk country music? lmao

    Robert Hardy

+Airaku Too be fair most country is bullshit

    Airaku

True. I bet he did this because of his rehab. I don't know. He's claiming that his mission this year is to kill pop punk! Probably the pop industry as a whole if he could.

    Johnny Black

+Airaku they said it´s folk classics

    mwells219

He might of meant that shit that's been called country music for the past 30 or so years.

    Penguin Stuff

Airaku hill Billie country this is more folk

  19. cherry balagsa

    love this pair

  20. Linda White

    The Red River Valley! Cute!

  21. mholdr

BJ's voice reminds me of one of the Everly bros.

    Ed Gloss

Indeed. Interestingly, Simon and Garfunkel do a version of this and they were heavily influenced by the Everly Brothers.

  22. Keyser Sose Sose

Shot him right out of the saddle! I love it!

  23. Andres Felipe Ruiz

Billie is the best singer ever, i love his voice in rock music, country music. Etc he is the Best and it won't change it.

    Warachara Upapong

    Andres Felipe Ruiz Agreed

  24. brosiv12

It's strange, this is more country than anything on country radio stations right now. Except maybe Kacey Musgraves, she's pretty country. But I like this twang-country sound, not the rock-country sound of the radio.

    Mia Bostic

@brosiv12 I agree. This is a really good Country/folk song

  25. Eve Sepe

I heard this song for the 1st time this morning on AM740 out of Canada - I love it. Thanks for posting.

  26. Tabi B

who are you people to tell Billie what he can and can't sing? It's a free country isn't it? Step off and let him do his own thing, it makes sense for him to try country, his mother played country music around the house when be was younger, she came from a country background

  27. Medalofhalo

Billie, Why? You are Punk Rock, not pop or country. Get your crap together. Smoke weed again if you have to!

  28. Richie Goldstein

This is seriously such a great song and the whole album is beautiful and even though Phil Everly passed after this album came out I think it's a damn good tribute if you ask me.

  29. Vitaliy Sabin

    Shitest american music

  30. jane Salles

    I love it

  31. Tyler Wike

    Wonderful 🎎🎎

  32. Gabriel Zazueta

oh! cuntry? wow! of green day!

  33. Herb Jones

Would someone please tell me what these movie clips are from and who is the cowboy. Also I'm 71 and never heard of BJA, but those 2 together doing this song are mind blowing and I listen to this all day. By the way this is truly the twangy old timey country music and today's style sux as all the singers sound alike.

    John Carey

+Herb Jones The first clips feature the silent cowboy star William S. Hart.

    GreenJeep1998

My folks are close to you in age Herb, and were just blown away by this album as well. Mom even had me get a copy for an Aunt, who happens to be her Little Sister, had to order it, but she can't wait to get it just based on what Mom has told her!

  34. Erick Roque

So awesome! Brings peace to the ears =D

  35. Philippe Jourdan

    Inthepastxx

    this isn't country though...

    Flavia Celano

@Inthepastxx Well, it seems :)! And the italian journalist who talked about it called it country :)! By the way obviously I can be wrong, nobody's perfect! sorry ;)!

    Richard Lawrn

@Flavia Celano it is country-ish folk music :) Reminds me a lot of J.Cash and I also love this kind of music, my dad used to play his records when I was little :)

    Flavia Celano

ohw, sweet :)! If you want maybe watch some of my videos, thanks <3!

  42. 永井希世文

    cool! l love greenday's song.

  43. ChrisDan915

Do some people go through YT videos marking DISLIKE for fun? Seems so.

  44. Scott C

I think Green Day are a bunch of hacks, but props to Billie Joe for trying something new and making a wise choice of collaboration partner.

  45. armchairmusician

You will live foreverly Phil.. hope you enjoyed the ride.

  46. Joel Hopkins

Can't get this song out of my head.
Best song on the album with both voices working seamlessly in tandem. Love.

  47. Proton2112

Green Day's two-part harmonies always sounded like the Everly Brothers. It may be coincidental, or Billie may have been influenced by exposure to the music of his parents. His vocals suit the part of one of the Everly's, so this overdue tribute to them works well. The pairing of Robert Plant and Allison Krauss is great too.

  48. ecka estrera

    i love you billie... ♥

  49. LlamaLickLollipop

    This sux xD

  50. Eric Eggert

Go Billie Joe! Shit, I can listen to this "folk country twang" to iTre!. The diversity kicks ass. Gee what do you want to listen to, Green Day's  Dookie over and over? So, I say go for it Billie.Looking for my cowboy hat and straw hat. Yee Haw! Just don't do Jazz.... Ha! Like I said, Go for it Billie!

  51. Bri A

I will support Bill Joe Armstrong no matter what he puts out. He's just doing what he wants, whether it's something unexpected like this or ending up in rehab. He'll always been the singer to introduce me to amazing music over the years and it will never stop :)

  52. MrRyrylarge

    This is awesome.

  53. Lucy Smart

Does ayone have an instrumental version by the way? I'd like to sing it on the country evening

  54. Lucy Smart

I didin't get the ending. Fistly she shoots him straight and confidently and then goes "oh my god, what have I done". Or was there something I missed?
But I like the video anyway

  55. wakman11

This is great, Don & Phil will be proud!

  56. Lioudmila Scarpelli

Forever in love…………Thanks to Warner Bros Record!
    Thank You Tube for share!

  57. TimStreeperMusic

Is it just me or is this song using the same melody as "Red River Valley"?

  58. Junkpunker21

I don't get it. People from Rise Against and people like Tim Armstrong and Joey Ramone would love these covers so much but you get all these 'punk rockers' coming on here saying they don't like 'country music'.

    Brendan Honeycutt

Joey Ramone covered "What a Wonderful World" back in the day, and clearly loved 50s and 60s pop music. Hell, even the frontman of the only band that matters, The Clash, had a huge affection for the Beach Boys. However, perhaps the best example of "diverse tastes" from a punk rocker is Mike Ness of Social Distortion, who's done an entire country-flavored album, professing a huge love for Johnny Cash and Hank Williams Sr.

I guess the point of this rambling comment is "liking punk doesn't mean you have to hate classic pop and country." I'll never get why a lot of "punk rockers" get so mad about that.

  59. Sam Watts

This is amazing, love you Billie & Norah!

  60. Hildy van Hefeweizen

I have been a fan of Billie Joe's since the early '90's so I'm not knocking him with this comment, but his voice seems to play the female role while Norah's lends a more masculine vibe...and it works! This is a weird triumvirate for me...I've loved Billie Joe for years and years....Norah has partnered with my favorite band before....and I love the Everly Brothers....what a coinky dink.

    Barry Batson

@Daniel Armstrong Your right Daniel, Billie Joe is Phil and Norah is Don!

    Mari Sundell

flammingcarrot their voices actually do complement one another this is only the second time I've come across Billie Joe Norah Jones doing this country stuff I was in shock the first time I guess that's why I forgot about it and just now coming on I was like oh no but it's actually not bad I'm not going to run out by the album..m guard Jones can sing with anybody and sing anything she's amazing Billy Joel I'm proud of you for being willing to strap on it country shitt give it a shot I hate country but I'm alright with it

    Mari Sundell

    flammingcarrot

    Sutzy Ku

That's because of Norah's husky gruff voice.

  61. Woody James

This is AMAZING! Billie Joe is more country then any of the fakes on country radio now! I have so much respect for him, I've never fallen in love with a song so quickly until I heard "Long Time Gone". GREAT JOB!!!!!!!!!!

  72. Hannes

bj is a great musican but srsly is this what hes doin atm ??? lol

    Peter Oliphant

BJA seems to dip his hands into all sorts of different musical types...

'The Network' is Devo like new wave music... and 'Foxboro Hot Tubs' is hard rock and heavy metal...ish... both groups are Green Day in 'disguise'...

BJA is both versatile anf prolific at the same time... if only he would do pop punk once in a while too... (j/k)...:)

  73. Valentina Parrotto

Oh *-* the fusion of your voices is FABULOUS!
