Nneka - Mind Vs. Heart Lyrics

What is the mind without the heart
What am I without my shadow
What is life without knowing that death comes
What is a song without a melody

Needed to search myself to go back
Had no signs of hope before lost in the darkness
Not knowing what my fate makes of me
And oh ignoring the fellowship accompanying me
There were swamps, slums, gottas, brunks, love songs,
Hidden pleasure, ignored passion, secret worship,
Quiet movement and undissolved self loving
Now I know God has brought me here for something

What is the mind without the heart
What am I without my shadow
What is life without knowing that death comes
What is a song without a melody

My head says I lost my way
But my heart knows that my life is destined in anyway
A long road running towards stops where I pay
Pay, pay for what I have taken and is got what I deserving
Oh God knows very well that my sins are always before me
Yes he gives and he takes and he wounds and he breaks,
He destroys and he builds and still I know
That his love is endless grace

What is the mind without the heart
What am I without my shadow
What is life without knowing that death comes
What is a song without a melod

Tell me what your mind is without your heart
Tell me do you feel, do you feel happiness
Your heart, your heart, your heart
Your soul, your soul, your soul

Say we must destroy in order to rebuild,
In order to rebuild don't you know, don't you know
Your heart, Polarity must be for you and me, for you and me

  19. PimpPancreas

jubhitc , do you think American singers need to buy their communities water towers?

The person can buy anything with the money they earned. You didn't earn it.

  20. Chip Frazier

So, you know what every american "vocalist" will do with their money and you know every american "vocalist" wont help their community???? U are one ignorant person. "It's sad. Really really sad" that u are so ignorant as to what "an american vocalist" will or wont do!!! STAY UR ASS IN AFRICA OR GO THE FUCK BACK!!

    Dominic Hardy

Chip Frazier He lacks knowledge about real heart felt african americans be mellow we just have not had a real african born in america with values of life in so long so he is partly right

  21. Ricky M

Every new cut I hear from her is making me fall harder & harder for her! She done jumped in my top 5 and we just met!

  22. Manny Albert

SERIOUS OMISSION by uploader in the above lyrics: After "Do you feel happiness ...", add "... BUT YOU DON'T FEEL PAIN?" It's the very heart of the song!!!

  23. I Au Matu

  24. jubhitc

The difference between Nneka and an American vocalist is that an Afrikan will sell an album and buy their community a water tower and an American will buy a Bentley. It's sad. Really really sad

  25. jubhitc

Anyone who doesn't like this can piss off and keep it to themselves

  36. elyess hamrouni

this world is unfair why such a talent is hidden ???!!!!!!!!

  37. natashoots

her music is unique and not everybody can feel her energy and her passion that shes giving through her music. some musicians also make music and their music is more popular because you can hear it in every cafe bar on repeat all day and night and then what happens? you cannot stand that song after 2 weeks. so i am GLAD that her music is not threadbare and than faded away i support nneka and i want to ppl really hear her message but that cannot everybody.

I don't know. It's sad talent seems to always be ignored, while mediocrity is celebrated.
At least, in America, it seems to be this way, can't really speak for other nations.

@Bonitaymorena If we didn't rate nor judge others we wouldn't have a concept of justice nor what's in the best interest of ourselves or the whole... We have all struggled...but it is our character and the choices that we make that help us to rise above our challenges... and in doing so, we inspire others... and I call it like I see it... and it is refreshing to listen to an artist who isn't caught up in the hype of money and sexual inhibition... I support artist like Nneka and Sade not Badu!

  79. Loupe's Literary Lounge

@akure13 Exactly!! Erykah is very talented too and nneka likes her music and finds it as a compliment to be compared to her!!! But they are two completely different yet soulful artists. Both are great!! :)

  80. Loupe's Literary Lounge

@kosmopolitisch Excuse me but don't judge others!!! God himself said that!! Only he can judge you don't kn9ow Erykah and that bad things she went through in her life!! Everyone struggles!!!

  81. Loupe's Literary Lounge

  89. Plebeian Blueprint

@cooka06 Thank you for your reply. I appreciate art for the sake of art. However, Badu does not unite people not does she put human value over money. For this, I accept her work as art but not inspirational; at least not at the level of Nneka. Thank you again.

  90. FreedomRenegades

@kosmopolitisch if you watch interviews with miss Badu, you would see that most of her songs are tongue in cheek and every single one has an important message... no one can fully interpret another's art or say what they meant, only the artist can. . .everyone else gets to see it differently, which makes it even more of a work of art (to me) Badu came before Nneka, and they are both strong spiritual & intellectual women worth acknowledgement for how they express themselves creatively. much love

  91. FreedomRenegades

@OurCurlyBen watch the movie "I Am" (please! it's the most amazing movie anyone can watch presently, in my opinion) and you'll see the scientific proof (among other things that might surprise you) that the heart sends strong clear messages to the mind, your mind is nothing without your heart. And she's saying life cannot be such -life- without death that comes with.. . it's a little deeper than you might have taken it. .

  92. OurCurlyBen

"What is life without knowing that death comes". Sure, I agree. There is one life and then there is death, so we should value life because there are no second chances. Except for people who believe in afterlife death is just a beginning, so the point is moot. And nneka apparently does believe that. Also, heart is just a blood-pump, and there's probably no soul without the mind...

Damn, I'm doing it again. I know, it's art, and I love nneka, but isn't it time to leave the superstitions behind?

  93. akure13

@kosmopolitisch aye yo...informative positive comment, but why compare her to E. Badu in the first place?? Each artist has their talents and does what they do best. I could see if E. Badu was a lil raggedy but she is a talented sista. Much respect to her. To them both ya digg?! :)

  94. Plebeian Blueprint

Erykah Badu is corrupt. She can't help it. She was overexposed to lure of sex and capitalism and so the two are common denominator in all her music , love is not... This artist celebrates life, love and human struggle... and she doesn't just wrap her hair to look cultural... she lives her culture... she wash toilets before she gain our awareness and she is not afraid to remember or to speak on the subject... She is a true bard... and I rate her above Badu!

  95. hejloeeee

the force is strong in this one
