Nitty Gritty Dirt Band - Will The Circle Be Unbroken Lyrics
I was standing by my window,
On one cold and cloudy day
When I saw that hearse come rolling
For to carry my mother away
by and by, Lord, by and by
There's a better home a-waiting
in the sky, Lord, in the sky
I said to that undertaker
undertaker please drive slow
for this lady you are carrying
Lord, I hate to see here go
Will the circle be unbroken
There's a better home a-waiting
in the sky, Lord, in the sky
Oh, I followed close behind her
Tried to hold up and be brave
But I could not hide my sorrow
When they laid her in the grave
Will the circle be unbroken
by and by, Lord, by and by
There's a better home a-waiting
in the sky, Lord, in the sky
I went back home, my home was lonesome
missed my mother, she was gone
all of my brothers, sisters crying
what a home so sad and lone
Will the circle be unbroken
by and by, Lord, by and by
There's a better home a-waiting
in the sky, Lord, in the sky
We sang the songs of childhood
Hymns of faith that made us strong
Ones that Mother Maybelle taught us
Hear the angels sing along
Will the circle be unbroken
by and by, Lord, by and by
There's a better home a-waiting
in the sky, Lord, in the sky
Will the circle be unbroken
by and by, Lord, by and by
There's a better home a-waiting
in the sky, Lord, in the sky

Just a silly ole song bill.. ain't it?
who is the harmonica player with glasses?
Jimmy Fadden I think
Can someone tell me who the harmonica player is please?
Is it Jimmie Fadden maybe?
what a song.....what a band....simply great.....
Hands down one of my favorite Gaither Homecoming Video presentations!
NGDB is STILL a GOAT of a band that got together with some of the other GOATS of; Bluegrass, Gospel and Country for this one. Bill and Gloria Gaither knocked another out the musical history park. Homerun!
God bless and Shalom Y'all from Kentucky!
I dont know who the majority of these people are? some dont look like country singers. The two guys on the banjo? the guy with the glasses and harmonica? the guy with the long salt-n-pepper hair and goatee who looks like a cover model? The creepy looking guy in a blue open shit at 1:52 and what looks like fake hair?
Thumbs up if Ken Burns sent you here
outstanding!!!!!!
131 tin ears broke the circle.
yee-haw!!
I needed this today...……….
The circle is broken when people will mess with people to get their kits out of it
This was one of the first albums I've ever owned. My brother was tired of me playing Derek & the dominos and Black Oak Arkansas all of the time so he gave me this album and Roy Clark LIVE. I didn't know it at the time but it would be a gift that would last my entire life! I play this song every time I stand on stage and play my guitar and I would trade a leg to be on that stage jamming with Del McCoury and his son, Marty Stuart and Jeff Hanna and every one else up there. I sure hate to hear this called crap because its one of the few true american art forms and I'm sure the crap callers don't have anything better....
God let the circle be broken for at last three years because I need a emotional break for this autistic 26 year old girl I can’t do it a again for a while Rest In Peace nana Papa bear uncle Joey aunt Cindy grandpa Kitley
Nice music, but sorry folks, there are no such things as god and heaven.
It"s called "fairy tales".
This is what you call bluegrass.Great performance.
Duane Allman and the Allman Brothers do a fine job on this song in their Mountain Jam on their album Eat A Peach. Very different, but very good.
This song was sang as my mam was lowered down 10 years ago. I miss her so much.
So many legends up there... So glad to see Marty Raybon up there too. Cool story about him... I was working at an amusement park where he and his son came to visit on vacation back around 96'. I asked him if he was Marty from Shenandoah, he confirmed he was. I asked for his autograph, and he obliged, but not before asking if I knew Jesus. I did! But, that's never left my memory. I feel like in many ways I am a better man today for following Marty and his music.
Bioshock Infinity ❤❤❤🌈
Lost my Mother when I was 3 in 1965. Boo hoo...Diabetes. Oh, how she suffered. Last thing I remember is them wheeling her away into the hospital on a stretcher. My 3 year old brain didn't understand that mommy wasn't coming back. Spent the rest of my adult life trying to fill the empty void she left with alcohol. I am 55 now and the jury is still out on that one. I am saved according to John 3:3. I believe that this video is a portal to how it will be in Heaven. Christian brothers and sisters raising voices in praise and in solidarity. If I meet my mom in Heaven or if I don't, I believe that Heaven will be such a place as this... where there is peace and love and brotherhood and sisterhood. I for one, can not wait for that day when I'll Fly Away... Love to all of you, and to my mom... and to Uncle Don and Aunt Dotty...woot...Ol Sarge...
You WILL see your dear mother, again. Blessings to you.
good listening!! i always enjoy the gaither productions. it's wonderful watching the great performers on stage, in the background, and in the audiance. thanks for sharing.
Starts to sing along to it.
love it this so awesome.
That was perfect!
sstick your bible up your arse
By far my favorite version of this great song!
Marty Stuart is a fake n only in it for the money n his wife as well.
Kenneth Truitt Jr just how do you figure that?
Winston Tucker Yeah, I'm curious, too!
Jesus Christ said, that who believes in me will receive power of the Holy Spirit. And go and spread the word to all creation
Love it so much
This in my opinion is the best version of this classic gospel song
AP Carter would be so proud.
When my mom passed on this was played at her funeral I remember everyone began to sing even those who had never heard it before it was a moment that brought everyone together in a time of need for everyone.. she meant the world to us.. may she smile on
tommy torbet I am sorry for your loss... Your sentiments were beautifully written.
..why did Del say "undertaker" three times,....lyrics should be -"oh I told that undertaker, -undertaker pleas drive slow,"...
RIP to my mama and my daddy
100 punten.!!!!
Psalm 103:17 But the love of the Lord remains forever with those who fear him.
His salvation extends to the children’s children.
Gosto de música country ! ...... Diz-se que o banjo nasceu em Portugal ...
İn the sky..
who is the man singing at 2 minutes?
Reported990, it's Marty Raybon from the group Shenandoah.
Family and friends sang this after Moms' funeral... sad, sad day... one i will never forget xo

so beautiful song
Amen to that Donna! I've heard this song for as long as I can remember (seems like at least 50 years). And, the older I get the better it sounds!
Jody Proffitt Amen to that. I've heard this since I was a kid and now that I'm in my late 30s, the song is even more beautiful and means so much more to me.
Beautiful song all ways loved it
Great version. The only superior version is the One recorded at the Transatlantic Music sessions featuring Michelle Wright, Iris de Ment and Morad ( pronounced De Winnie). fantastic version
I was looking for this song from Bioshock infinite. Found this.

THE EVERY BEST SONG EVER SING
IS THIS ONE IT TOUCH'ES MY HEART
I REALLY LOVE THE SONG
This is just too amazing. Much thanks for your post.
Just lost my grandma I'll love you forever 😔🙏🏾
...so strange?...Tim sings BLUE NIGHT in key of 'B',...this song in G,...my point is, -that B is too high for BLUE NIGHT, and G is too low for CIRCLE !!!!...that is from one extreme to another !,...when will they ever learn ?
right G is an easy guitar play tune but not every the best A is better sounds more powerful even the second level must increase one tone tune at least from G to A
why Connie Smith doesn't have a microphone, I don't know but this is great ❤
I love to see Jimmy and band
Bioshock Infinite!
+Screamer 89 exato
+Screamer 89 This song inspired the bioshock song. Lord is omitted in the bio shock version for better story continuity.
😭I almost cried when I closed the game is when I played in the "favela" phase with that wonderful solo Elizabeth miss😭
Almost.
Marty Raybon on for the win
I love this song best in world
Praise the name of Jesus!!! I'm going home!!!
PAULA COX See you on the other side!
Over these prison walls I'll fly...I'll fly away...In the mornin. When I die, Halleluiah, by and by...I'll fly away...
Great !!!!!
...why are they doing it in G ?...A. Bb. or B is what it should be done in,...thought there was a law on that !
@wildwood valleyboy You're being hypocritical. You said the song should be in A or B or Bb, and got your panties all in a wad about it, but if you really think it could be any key which "enhances the song" then you're a hypocrite. You make a lot of comments about things being "in the wrong key" but then you say it's subjective. What "enhances" the song is purely subjective. Hypocritical much?
P.S. There is no space before end punctuation. Since you're so pedantic about what key a song is played it I would have assumed you'd at least have good grammar.
+thinkpol I do have good grammar, my mother was a school teacher ! The reason I space before end punctuation is for "enhancement" ! Lets keep this debate purely musical !
@wildwood valleyboy "Enhancement" is not a valid excuse to have bad grammar. Never will you ever read in any grammar book that that is acceptable, it actually makes it weaker because it's bad grammar. Plus you never space after ellipses and have lots of weird commas. But, if you want to keep it musical, you're still musically hypocritical. You can't insist on a "correct" key based on subjectivity.
+thinkpol ....I just did !
@wildwood valleyboy Then you insist hypocritically, thus your "argument" has no legitimacy or value.
This is so great.... wow..... love it Amen
Troppo bello questo brano. Ho il doppio o triplo album fin dal 1977, un bel gruppo country , che in alcuni brani potete trovarci Vassar Clement al violino. Una goduria per chi ama la buona musica.
I really miss my mother
we all...
@Mary Phillips And I miss my dad. I'm guessing all our folks loved this music........ was a sweeter, kinder, and just flat out classier time.......
i miss my Grandpa and my Grandma.
this is my favorit gospel song

What Jim Hammond Helped With this
This is one of all time favorites

I can see through all the tears

Retired US Army Sergeant...Stood on the battlefields of Iraq in 06 and all of 07. Saw some friends die. Never had this kind of family. Wish I had. But I see here the love and good spirit...a snapshot of good things to come...The circle will indeed be unbroken...The Lord, Our God will see to it...Hoooaaaahhh!!! Old Guard...
11Bravo says it all to me. Why is the sky blue?? Because God loves the Infantry!! What makes the green grass grow?? Blood!! Blood!! Blood!!
I feel you, my brother. I hope you will give God a chance. John 3:3, Jesus said, "No man can see the Kingdom of Heaven, Lest he be born again..." The book of Romans explains how to become "Born again" Know this, the 1st birth is of the flesh (water)... the 2nd birth is spiritual. You must have this 2nd birth to go to Heaven. Soldier, follow the instructions of the Field Manual and obey your lawful order. In your heart, you know it is just, true and right. When this life is over, you will stand tall before the Man. And He will require you to account for your actions. Do not let Him down. Hope to spend eternity with you, my 11Bravo brother. Manchu, Keep Up The Fire....
Thank you for your service!

Bioshock Infinite puto! >:C
Crap? How dare anyone call this crap? The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band wrote and recorded this first and the others on stage with them are all legends. Del McCoury, Marty Stuart and Marty Raybon. Great job by all.
Yes. Author: Ada R. Habershon (1907)
Tune: [There are loved ones in the glory]
Published in 47 hymnals (Hymnary.org)
popular Christian hymn written in 1907 by Ada R. Habershon with music by Charles H. Gabriel.
They often go uncredited by the many who have performed it since. Legendary Carter Family performed the song before the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band existed.
yeah its a little self-wankerous aint it mate
Sorry Winston, Ada R. Habershon wrote the song in 1907. It had be sung an recorded by many many people before TNGDB. This is a great rendition though.
sorry for your loss man
My grandfather just passed away today.
I'm not a religious person, nor do I wish to be, but this song has always been one of my favorites and even though I can't accept an afterlife as fact it feels good to entertain the thought from time to time.
Played at my Grandma's funeral 22 years ago. Even though I'm an atheist I still can't get away from this song. Makes me emotional every time.
proudmomofbug that's Gods power
I hear that. I'm totally agnostic and think Abrahamic religions are bullshit but absolutely love this track.
+Timothy Longworth +Imbusy as long as you have breath there is time to accept Jesus as your Savior. Jesus stands at the door of your heart. Open up and let Him in.
Whats dead will die, and whats lived will live
This was sung at my mothers funeral. I didn't listen to the words since I was so heartbroken. Never knew it fit so well.
Marty has blue eyeshadow
WTF IS THIS CRAP?
GOOD. BUT STILL CAN'T COMPARE TO STEPHEN HILLS VERSION.
