Ninja Sex Party - Sledgehammer Lyrics

I discovered Sledgehammer by Peter Gabriel pretty recently in my life, and it's catchiness has infected me to the point of now being one of my favorite songs.

And then I find out that the absolute lads, the most ninja of Brians (PhD btw) and Daniel Avidaniel, made a cover of it.

It was like the universe was speaking, and I was able to hear it. Serendipity.

I now find myself listening to this at least once every day.

It's crazy how, not only have their original songs gotten better and better as time goes on, but even their covers. They were always great, but this one and Don't Fear the Reaper especially made me realize that their cover albums have been evolving just as much.

I never knew I needed this until now.

Never heard the original until now, immediately loved the cover!

This is one of my favorite songs on the new album! Danny's voice is so perfect for it.

I really like how little mixing/auto tune is on Danny's voice. The original had so much (not that it was bad) and I feel like Dan's finally saying he doesn't need it.

I'm pretty 'ehhhhhhhh' (Avi-esque?) about most of NSP's covers because I like my covers to mix up the instrumentation a lot and put a whole new spin on the song, whereas a lot of the time they do it just like the original but with Danny's vocals. But this is a pretty damn grooving beat. Might have to listen to more of this album.

@Shelby G As a trumpet player who has played this chart myself, the mix of synth horns and real horns muds it up a bit. The horns sound like they have the chops, so synth strings and the horn section would've been better. IMHO, anyway. Still enjoyed it.

The original song and video had this odd sort of off-kilter surrealist feel where it looked and sounded really realistic but was incredibly odd. With the techno feel of this song, I’d love to see something similar to that but maybe with a hearty splash of vaporwave aesthetics.
