Nine Inch Nails - The Great Destroyer Lyrics

Say your name
Try to speak as clearly as you can
You know everything gets written down
Nod your head
Just in case they could be watching
With their shiny satellite

I hope they cannot see
The limitless potential
Living inside of me
To murder everything
I hope they cannot see
I am the great destroyer

Turn it up
Listen to the shit they pump into your head
Filling you with apathy
Hold your breath
Wait until you know the time is right on time
The end is near

I hope they cannot see
The limitless potential
Living inside of me
To murder everything
I hope they cannot see
I am the great destroyer

Nine Inch Nails The Great Destroyer Comments
  1. D.... M....

Idk why, but I knew that this will change into hardcore elepsy mode

  2. n.... ....

If NIN is playing this piece live at that time, they have an alarm in the nearest power plant, how furious they have to dance gauges.

  3. s.... ....

Well the song got destroyed by The Great Destroyer in the its 2nd half of its duration... Well duh... Its the entire point of the song and why it glitched out from that point til the end.

  4. l.... ....

i just dream of seeing these guys live, goddammit

  5. I.... I....

Aaron just gets the perfect tone for this band...very much missed

  6. J.... D....

That beat didn’t even stand a chance. Totally destroyed

  7. J.... G....

I love how this song just let's it's organs spill in the last half. Yeah it's just noise but it's madness is just genius in disguise

  8. D.... 9....

  19. J.... I....

Aaron North is Pure rawsomeness! Have I made a new word?

    J.... I....

Jamis Ins he is missed....but at least getting the help he needed...

  20. J.... V....

i know this is an unpopular opinion, but Aaron North was my favorite NIN guitar player.

    J.... V....

By far my favorite as well! Totally agree! He added a dynamic element the other guitarists never did.

  21. A.... ....

This is where America is headed. Get ready folks.

  22. S.... R....

The chaotic electronic programming at 1:59 to the end is so fucking sick. Really incredible performance of this song.

    S.... R....

are they actually playing any part of that or is it pre-recorded?

    S.... R....

ajmak jerome it’s different to the studio version. It could possibly be alternate takes that they didn’t use in the final version. In all fairness this was created using modular synths which would be very difficult to recreate live.

    S.... R....

ajmak jerome it was mostly done live. When The Spiral (fan club) existed and NIN would do private chat parties Aaron North explained how he’d play the loop live then switch Alessandro which he’d switch to Trent with the Jazzmutant Lemur and Trent would manipulate the tail end of each line to it’s finish. Note its not just synths but Aaron used a console guitar also.

  23. R.... P....

1:55 - Skrillex take your Autobots sex and eat your heart out.

  24. D.... M....

Altro che fortezza delle scienze ,qua si fa sul serio!Reznor come Kabuto.

  25. C.... F....

This is actually better than the original.

    C.... F....

    Original?

    C.... F....

Gyrbae He means the album version

    C.... F....

Most of NIN live is better than album versions..

  26. D.... M....

Welcome to the 2016, guys... It's better to be the Hammer than an anvil.

  27. y.... ....

this could be Donald Trump's inaugeration song.

    y.... ....

    +Lívio Volpe Trump is evil.

    y.... ....

+Lívio Volpe lets gets real, neonazi.

    y.... ....

    c'mon
even trent thinks trump is an asshole

    y.... ....

    Please don't.

    y.... ....

@Lívio Volpe Sorry but the words that flow from your mind are a reflection of you.
"you gotta be one idiot son of a bitch..."
I'm sorry you think so poorly about your own intelligence.
I'm sorry you see your mother as a bitch.

  28. L.... M....

fucking video game glitches killing the awesomeness what a shame

    L.... M....

    not true.

    L.... M....

You must not listen to noize or digital hardcore? :) Trent willing to experiment with different fucked up sounds from the more underground genres (or even inventing his own genres), was always one of his best qualities and this is one of the most interesting songs on Year Zero. Very difficult to perform live too, which makes it all the more satisfying. If you want generic industrial metal, with guitar over guitar and some occasional keyboard, with the same old cheap ass hooks, album after album, go listen to Rammstein or Manson.

    L.... M....

    shut up casual

  29. r.... f....

    god damn magic..

  30. e.... ....

Best track since the TDS days.. :)

    e.... ....

    @ebbhead20 If you say so.....

    e.... ....

    @revolutionday1 oh but i do,i do. :P

    e.... ....

absolutely. I like how not many were dropping beats hardcore until after 2007, not saying anything more than that.

    e.... ....

    LA FUCKING MER? SOMEWHAT DAMAGED?

  31. M.... W....

    love this

  32. A.... B....

Wow, the 2013-14 version was so much better live. Trent stepped up the stage production big time. Hope it only gets better from here on out.

  33. P.... ....

    Yessssss !!!!

  34. S.... S....

Someone knows how to get this awesome guitar sound ?

    S.... S....

I wish I knew the pedal or the settings that he is using! I love the sound .

    S.... S....

    @Luis Halo
Maybe a marshall crunch channel with some overdrive. With a detuned Telecaster guitar.

    S.... S....

@Steve Simard I thought Aaron North used Haagmasters and Jazzmaster when he played with NIN, lloks like he's using a Jag/Jazzmaster from the sillohuete.

    S.... S....

    Hagstroms sorry!

  35. k.... b....

this song reading festival 2007,and two minutes in a group of indie kids stood near us with their fingers in their ears.we were right by a hanging speaker stack.was just awesome sound.ha ha ha

  36. t.... ....

The ending on this version is better imo.

    t.... ....

    agreed, sounds way more chaotic

  37. y.... ....

GOING TO SEE THEM IN MARCH~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

  38. r.... S....

sounds drive me crazy... seriously, trent you're the best

  39. F.... M....

    so much truth!

  41. F.... K....

    Daaaammmmn!!!!

  42. J.... M....

    MY FAVORITE SONG

  43. i.... ....

you know the guy is a true artist when his live stuff is this good

  44. j.... ....

I really hope he is I heard he is taking a break. I hope not for long.

  45. s.... ....

and i cant wait to see them again

  46. M.... ....

    love this shit.

  47. L.... ....

Yeah, my generation got fucked...lucky bastards

  48. C.... K....

I'm into Nine Inch Nails since I saw "Head Like A Hole" back in 1989 on TV - seen TR and his crew twice on stage. He plays a big part in my life - his music has been there, like almost forever by my side. Not many musicians/artists can get so close to the "core" and even take a place inside one's heart and mind. Thanks TR for giving us the chance to witness the beauty of creating your own universe and sharing it with your "fans". This live version is so damn good!

  49. D.... B....

I have Trent Reznor too, because i'm listening to him right now.

  50. r.... S....

    In Trent we trust!

  51. S.... B....

This is great quality for a live video taken in the audience. You won't find a fan video with sounds this good.

  52. g.... ....

Fuck them, they chose 2 be dumb, we chose 2 be above the pink pop bullshit.

  53. s.... ....

HQ my ass Mr. Reznor, this is barely standard quality, at least for the sound

  54. Y.... ....

First time I saw NIN was in 1990 in Boston. Amazing then, and still is .

  55. A.... S....

i still don't believe that seen him. TRENT genius

  56. .... ....

    Love!!!

  57. d.... ....

    2 minutes of pure bliss!!!!

  58. J.... S....

Quick put everyone in a prison they could possibly kill someone.

  59. H.... G....

    Is something... Orgasmic?

  60. J.... A....

This is literally so amazing that its painful.... mmmmm

  61. 1.... ....

Born in -93 and grown up listening to NIN and other classics

  62. s.... ....

    good for you

  63. A.... ....

Don't worry. The dull modern mainstream music these days isn't stopping me from getting NIN's entire discography.

  64. T.... T....

The silence in the audience, reminds me of the end of the back to the future scene when Marty plays the Johhny B Goode song.

  65. K.... J....

    wtf is aaron doing on 2007 tour ! i'm happy ! :D

  66. J.... ....

'7 Aug 2007' They still have Trent Reznor, Ya Dingus

  67. h.... ....

Year Zero is brilliant. I used to think it was about the time and place in which it was written, but now i realise that it is a dark prophecy of the world we will all inhabit sooner than we would like.

  68. S.... ....

    Fucking intense...

  69. b.... ....

It always bugs me that this minimalist/industrial live version of NIN only lasted that short while. It lends itself so well to that side of NIN. Not all of Trent's music has live drums, so this was a genius move!

  70. i.... l....

Apparently music is similar to the ABC song you learn as a kid in his mind. It has to rhyme nearly every single wording, the notes have to be a repeated tune which are made up near each other, and music is made for the satisfactory of others. Frankly I thought it meant to define yourself, doing what you love.

  71. L.... J....

    Define music

  72. S.... ....

I was there in Stockholm. Great concert, but I felt bad for the Trent (and the band) that the venue wasnt full. Deserved better.

Shame he never came back =(

  73. B.... L....

Yes fucking Yes!!!! That is so the truth!! Yes!!!!!!

  74. t.... ....

    holy shit

  75. H.... A....

your guess is as good as mine...lol probably some cookie cutter artist not worth listening to.

  76. K.... ....

I'm seriously not even joking when I ask this. Who is David Guetta? One of those Walt Disney designed Pop Stars I'm supposing. I've never heard or read that name in my life and as you can see I by my username I was born in '88

  77. M.... ....

Todays music is basically jsut feel good crap. Kudos to the few that are exception to the rule.
Also kids still have Trent Reznor. His movie scores are brilliant, haunting and creepy.

  78. J.... D....

I'm sorry for the kids that think skrillex is the be all end all. If Skrillex is the church of noise, then nin is god.

  79. B.... ....

Music is noise, get used to it.

  80. S.... H....

First time I ever heard this song, we had it blasting and everything on the table shook, that was 5 years ago, and it's hard to believe

  81. s.... ....

    Guild Wars

  82. A.... A....

Aaron North !! best nin live guitarist

  83. D.... K....

I had only 16 but TRENT REZNOR IS MY GOD and I fucking love him!

  84. K.... F....

How about actual music? This is just noise.

  85. S.... v....

Some people like glitchy beats. Deal with it.

  86. K.... F....

People like this shit? the fuck?

  87. a.... ....

Still better than David Guetta's emotionless music. ANYBODY who appreciates music puts values on separate genres and styles. I don't understand why you would even call it a "modern problem". People have been doing this since who the hell knows how long. Music branches out constantly, and in my opinion, there is wayy better stuff out there compared to the pop music popular today. Btw, you know that David Guetta wasn't popular until the middle of this last decade.

  88. G.... ....

or when the guitar went krrrrehghtusiuhfiuhdkfgkkreeehuifghiurddk.... such soothing melodies :)

  89. B.... ....

NIN haves the best live shows !

  90. M.... ....

Aaron was not the best option.
    Clearly.

  91. D.... W....

I am a kid today and I have Trent Reznor, he's still around and making great music.

  92. C.... ....

Who said NIN isn't industrial? It's true that Reznor didn't start the genre (Skinny Puppy was IMO, as someone else's already written), but he was responsible for making the genre what it once was: the best fucking music ever. Nine Inch Nails is the icon of industrial rock.

  93. c.... ....

my parrot is learning this part!!

  94. O.... C....

@loois I think this is the best comment I've ever read on a NIN video.

  95. s.... ....

im so sorry for the kids today i had trent reznor they have david guetta

  96. r.... v....

trent has never said his band was industrial

  97. N.... ....

THe drop is pretty dupstep i like Dupstep so its all good Trent would prob tell u himself he wanted to dabble in it

  98. J.... B....

@snazzypapayas This is about as dubsteppy as Cornflakes
