This machine is obsolete.

Try to typecast this record. When I first listened to this record I felt it was interesting but a bit odd. It ended up being one of my two faves. I drift through the sounds and rythms every time I play it. Never stop finding something new that cathces my attention. Some fans hold that The downward spiral is their best, but I believe that they outdid themselves with this record. Idustrial Rock? Avant Rock? does it matter?

I am a big fan but to me, the Fragile (recorded in 1999, released in 2000) is by far Trent's best work. This opening track flows seamlessly with track 2. I prefer to listen to the first 6 tracks. It all builds to track 6, the Fragile. Left is the superior disc just as side 2 is tbe better of The Wall.

I'd agree, but this means you're not listening to Just Like You Imagined. It only gets weaker at Even Deeper

The right disc has a lot of underrated stuff on there

I always thought it was weird "Somewhat Damaged" starts "The Fragile," considering the tone of finality and pure, absolute frustration that accompanies it. Always felt like it should have been near the end, around "The Big Come Down," or "Underneath It All."

i've always thought of it as this technically being the 'final' song in terms of the progression of the protagonist, with the others being sort of flashbacks the protagonist experiences, or something like that. not really sure how to put it into words right, but hopefully you get the gist.

The first time I heard this album. I was pissed. This wasn't the Downward Spiral. After one listen I had enough and put it in my cd rack to collect dust. Little did I know that expectations vs reality are stupid and I was ignoring a masterpiece because it wasn't what I wanted it to be at the time.

Now this album. This song. This is me. This is the song I connect to the most out the the entire NIN catalogue. I come back to this so many times in times of need. It does what I need it to do every time. It repairs me.

Easily the best Album Trent has ever produced. The Downward Spiral is good, but this is god tier genius blended with complete raw emotion.

You dont get it.

I had a similar sensation at first listening. Then it quickly became my fav LP from this band. It's a story in the end. A story of most of us, like spiral but way more intimate, I think. And this song is just the perfect raising curtain of the show. I really suggest you to listen to all the rest, if you haven't done it already

After Broken and TDS, I didn't know how to take this album after the first listen, or this song. The more I listened, the more I understood. Eventually this album, and this track in a certain way, would become the soundtrack of my life.

sounds like you need to take things that frighten you , and embrace them first thing.

I already heard all that and then some before this and still embrace over the rest claiming the first real masterpiece, though TDS is pretty close in that regards too. This is more my style though. That's what makes Trent awesome though. He experiments...
